Box Office predictions thread-2007 Edition

I'm willing to say POTC 3 since it's still fresh in people's minds and considering how well the 2nd one did...I could say spider-man 3 but,but Spidey has too much competion and has a darker tone to it,it'll make a fortune still but I think Pirates will come out on top cause everyone loves Capt. Jack.

POTC has always had a pretty dark tone to it as well. I mean, both 1 and 2 half dealt with death and the undead rather extensively.

Interesting side-note: If HP can manage another $800M+ WW performance, it'll pass James Bond and Star Wars as the highest grossing franchise ever in just 5 movies.

I don't think Spider-Man will win worldwide. If you look back it's obvious that Harry Potter and POTC have a bigger international audience than Spidey. But on the other hand I'm usually wrong when I try to guess box office... But for now my top three for worldwide grosses are:

POTC
Harry Potter
Spider-Man (or Shrek)

Before Pierce Bronson movies the highest grossing Bond movie was Moonraker with just $210 million WW.

Besides 40 something years ago average ticket price were less than $1.00, now they what $7.00?

How much easier will it be for movies to break box office records when they are $20.00 each per ticket.

I think PotC 3 is gonna dominate 2007. HP should have the biggest WW gross. HP has always done really good international. I'm pretty torn between who will get 2nd and 3rd between Shrek, Spidey, and HP.

sounds like a lot of money, but there are 4 franchise that are proven money makers, and one that should at the very least go X3 on the bit and make 400 cause of the hype, and the fact they are putting transformers on the screen

yeah, but having over 20 movies in your franchise should compensate for that. Bond will eventually reclaim it since they never end but it'll be a while before anyone really catches up once movies 6 and 7 have run their course.

How many 07 threads are there going to be?

Harry Potter doesn't have a chance in hell of winning in the U.S/Canada boxoffice race. Internationally Harry Potter will gross more than any of the other movies but I'm not entirely counting out At Worlds End, Pirates 2 DVD seems to be doing pretty damn well. If you factor in the DVD sales and other little things...Shrek 3 has the edge. It's animated and will probably bring out more kids than any of the other films. As of right now I think that Pirates 3 is going to outgross Spidey.

Harry Potter 290mil Overseas 625mil

I'm quite sure I'm over predicting all of these movies because they will eat into eachother.

I still think people are underestimating the power of Transformers, big robot movies are in short supply, show a bunch of them beating the crap out of each other, plus the name Spielberg, and it's rather large fan-base young and old, you have a box office Juggernaunt. It'so ne of those movies a 6 year old can go see or a 30 year old...
