Arrow Brandon Routh IS Ray Palmer/The Atom

Only problem i have with it, is that it doesn't remind me of Atom at all.

Personally I think it looks fantastic and a hell of a lot better than the comic version.

Makes me wonder what they would have done if they got to use Ted Kord.

The suit might have actually fit a Ted Kord/Blue Beetle character better. The only thing that would redeem the suit to my eyes now would be if they did indeed bring in the shrinking power.

why do I feel they missed an excellent Superman opportunity by casting him as the Atom.

Can someone please explain to me why especially TV shows decide to bring unpopular characters in them. I mean I like Atom and all but seriously, they couldn't get any other hero someone more popular for Brandon to play?

Who did you have in mind? The answer depends on which character (and popular is subjective, so it's not easy to just throw out examples).

Yeah, I don't think Ray had practical "hand-to-hand" fighting in mind, when he created the suit.

I'm assuming that he (naively) thought that by wearing some body armor and possessing the ability to shoot out lasers from his hands, it would give him an edge when out in the field.

The problem is though, on a realistic basis, in order to fully compensate for his inability to fight, let alone to move around as a proficient fighter in that armor, his WHOLE body would need to be covered up like Iron Man's suit...but it isn't.

A good sharp shooter or a barrage of gunfire would easily get him wounded in his blind spots.
That makes the most sense.

I quite like the suit. It's definitly better than the comics. Assuming they give him the shrinking, it makes sense that he can fly, otherwise it would take him weeks to go places in shrunken size.

I dunno. It isn't terrible or anything, but I feel like the longer I look The Atom's suit, the uglier it gets.

Well, I'm hoping that they'll modify his outfit when he appears in the "Brave and the Bold" style spin-off; particularly in a way where it'll be more sleeker and less bulky like it is now, while ditching the metallic looking strings that he has all over his suit.

It's kind of unfortunate that it's the most expensive suit the Arrowverse has produced to date.

And actually shrink.

Why? it's just another overly techy Iron Man rip-off. It's hardly better, just different.

Better than spandex. And Iron Man wasn't the first person to wear an armored suit...it's not like it's an original concept.

OI.
NOBODY said anything about Spandex. That's only something people like you who disrespect the source material drag out when you want to criticize a more faithful approach to a costume...
Alsop, so maybe Iron Man isn't the first powered armored superhero (Show me the first one). That still doesn't mean this Atom suit isn't still a ripoff

You know, I could actually get past the fact that Ray's current outfit looks like a Iron Man/Robocop rip-off if only they would actually have his abilities based more on science/physics and not so much on technological-based gear/weapons.

Atom's ability to "glide" in mid-air (thus creating the illusion of flight), along with super density and strength all comes from his ability to control the size/mass/density of his body from his Atom Belt...which isn't the case in the "Arrow" universe.

That's actually been my biggest problem with "Arrow" this season, or at least one of my biggest problems.

At least with the Flash, they allow him to stay mainly true to his character from the comics. But with Arrow and Atom, they blatantly ripoff from the likes of Batman and Iron Man, rather than actually utilizing the core aspects of their characters from the comics.

Bozo the Robot is the first armored superhero character to appear in comics in 1939. By Quality Comics the creator was George Brenner who created the first masked superhero. In the first issue Bozo was referred to as Iron Man, he was also could be controlled could from the outside and inside

Cool. Still, that does not make the Atom suit NOT a ripoff. It actually makes it a ripoff twice over. A ripoff of a ripoff, if you will. Don't get me wrong, I won't have problem with the suit if they at some point use it to give Ray his shrinking ability, other wise, it really is nothing more than a rip on Iron man, it certainly won't be the Atom.

We get it. High tech suits look like other high tech suits. Unless humans suddenly evolve into a different shape, there's only so much you can do differentiate.

Shrinking will come. In the same way Barry wasn't running on water and Firestorm isn't transmuting things right out of the gate. It's an origin for the character before they get their own thing.

I fight it funny how Ray is going to be teaming up with Barry and then Oliver on back to back nights.

I just want to know how Felicity will handle it. I mean...
