Wow. This is bad. I mean it is Reeve's no contest but we knew that going in, Routh still did a very admirable job.

Why not like both?

I agree both did great, but I still picked Reeve.

better question is who is better dean cain or tom welling !!! ahahahh

to early to tell in my opinion;

Reeves = 4 superman movies

Routh = 1 supeman movie.

i need to see routh in a few more before i can totaly pick. but if i have to right now im going with reeve.

There is no better Superman than Christopher Reeve, although Routh did very well. I watched Superman III last night -- or bits of it -- and Reeve still was much more convincing in that movie even though it's terrible. Reeve nails all 3 aspects; physical, comedic, and dramatic. And he was just bigger and had more presence than Routh...

My order Christopher Reeve > Brandon Routh > George Reeves > anyone else > Dean Cain

Reeve, easily. Routh shows no emotion in this movie as Superman, minus the "son becomes the father" scene. He is just monotonic. Reeve gave Superman charisma and personality. Far better performance.

George Reeves = Julius Erving
Christopher Reeve = Michael Jordan
Brandon Routh = Tim Thomas

routh= future reeves= past ...time to MOVE on

agree... but Reeve will always be #1 to me but ROuth deserves to setup next to Reeve and hold the torch as well :up:

to be honest, this whole comparison is a huge reason as to why Superman Returns is constantly compared to Batman Begins(atleast in here, with all you Batman fanboys! grrr...).
first and foremost, Christopher Reeve was the greatest comicbook superhero actor ever. He was and will always be the best Superman. Brandon Routh is a great successor. Brandon's Superman/Clark is patterned after Christopher Reeve's. like Kobe Bryant is patterned after Michael Jordan. Kobe is great, but Jordan will always be the greatest. Brandon is great(i mean atleast he has great potential), but Christopher will always be the greatest. I'm glad Singer chose to pick an actor who resembles Christopher Reeve to be the next Superman. I wouldn't want Superman to be any other way.
Now, back to my other point... Becuz the Superman movies were so greatly portrayed by Christopher Reeve, it put more pressure on the franchise to make Superman Returns. Wherein which on the other hand, for Batman Begins, there was much less pressure. The Batman franchise was dead. And there have been 3 different actors who played Batman, that none of us really could identify any of them as being the true Batman. infact, not even Michael Keaton. He was probably the best Batman of the 3 actors, but he was not what Christopher Reeve was to Superman.
So, with that said, Christian Bale has now taken the reighns as the new Batman. And it's a better Batman. A more serious Batman. and dare i say more realistic Batman. no campiness this time around.
There's much less pressure on an actor becoming "the new Batman", than there is on an actor becoming "the new Superman".
Christian Bale had it easy.
Brandon Routh will have a more difficult time being accepted as the new Superman, due to the fact that Christopher Reeve was so great at it.

so there. i hit 2 birds with 1 stone. :)

I actually think Christian Bale, Tobey Maguire are both the best comic book actors ever. But, yeah....Reeve would be up there.

And there was always the hill Routh would climb, and he's no idiot....he knows people will hate him JUST for not being Reeve. I'm sure he can deal with it.

Bale you must be joking, Reeve would and has PWNED ALL

I dunno.......his Clark was a bit too goofbally.

Christian Bale emboidies ALL aspects, no matter how small, of the Batman/Bruce Wayne/Bruce Wayne the playboy character(s). Even aspects that have never been done in the comics, too.

And Maguire just seems born to be Spider-Man.

I'm not hating on Reeve though, I'm just saying....it's not clear cut anymore.

bale is good but i wanna see what happens when the joker pushes him to the edge.... then will see the TRUE character come out ;)

as for tobey well and skinny brat can be spider man... hes too annoying to me

While Reeve will always be Superman to me, Routh did really well. Honestly, in some parts he was far better than Reeve.

I say its a tie.

Oh zip it. :rolleyes: Mentok can say what he want on who he think is great. You don't tell people what to do. Stop being jealous of Routh getting more praise than Tommy boy ever will get. Boo-hoo!! Someone should be banned for telling people to not choose his own opinion. What Mentok say is his opinion & you don't have the right to make him change his opinion. And Routh is a boy? LMAO!! I find it laughable you call him that when compare to this age, you're the boy here. And your lack of maturity as well. God ,this is so damn funny & sad at the same time. :D :D

And I got to agree with my fellow NC native DACrowe on why not like both Reeve & Routh. I wouldn't compare either, 'cause they bring a little difference to the roles. Like Reeve's Clark was extremely clumsy & campy over the top, while Routh was more of a shy & little bumbling Clark.

It all depends on who you grew up with. If you grew up watching very little Superman than Routh is probably your guy. If you grew up with Reeve it would be very hard for Routh to replace him - not because his performance was worse, but because Reeve has always been Superman for you. I never really got into the old Superman movies but had seen quite a few of the old Superman TV shows so George Reeves was always who I kinda thought of as a real life Superman - Routh has replaced him.

Watching STM again, it is clear that Reeve is more convincing as Superman because of his maturity (Routh looks alot younger despite the fact that they were both 26), his charisma (Routh is lacking in this dept), and the presence Reeve has on the screen. Routh is not bad, but he isn't as good as Reeve.
Reeve was also professionally trained at the Julliard School of Drama. So he had the edge.
