Breaking Bad - Part 7

Walt hugging Jesse was like Voldemort hugging Draco in the last Harry Potter movie. So awkward.

But there's love there! THERE'S LOVE THERE! :argh::csad:

For me, it would be letting his family die.

Something tells me that his whole family will come under threat, and he'll do nothing.

Just to save his own ass.

So the family he started cooking meth to help, he'll let die.

THAT, will be the final straw for people.

This. I think he'll sell them down the river and let them suffer the harsh consequences. He's become so vile and so despicable that he couldn't care less if his family was killed. Definitely not Hank. If anything, I think Walt WILL finish off Skyler.

Breaking Bad. Dropping pipe bombs every sunday night for five seasons. So glad I went on a netflix binge to see all these episodes and catch up with you guys. What a show!

I don't think that's entirely true.

I think the beauty and genius of Breaking Bad is that we're both right. I really do believe that Walt loves Jesse like a son. However, I also believe that Walt's heart is black as night and it's a very sick, controlling kind of love. It's like Samuel L. Jackson said on Talking Bad; It's almost like Walter is the devil and he wants to own Jesse's soul.

Dropping more pipe bombs than CM Punk. :hehe:

And yeah, this truly is an unbelievable show. I don't think there'll ever be one like it again. :woot:

I agree with that. Otherwise he would have been up for sending Hank on a trip to Belize. I think that may be the last threshold he crosses; killing or being responsible for a family member's death.

I don't know. I oftentimes question how much Walt really cares about his family. I sort of think he's maybe lying to himself with this whole "family man" thing he's got going on, but that's a much deeper analysis of the character than I care to go into right now.

I'd like to thank tonight's episode for making me reach my sexual peak. There's nowhere to go but down from here.

The only thing Walt loves is his ego and sense of being in control.

He doesn't care about his family. That's just something he tells himself - and something Skyler tells herself - to rationalize and justify what he's done.

Walt is a problem dog who needs to be put down.

Ok Jesse Pinkman is a god among insects. that is all.

I think his speech to Skyler about the keeping the money last week was the most genuine he's been in recent memory. I think he genuinely loves his kids. Skyler... less so, and Hank/Marie less than that, but whether that means he'd outright kill any of them, I don't know. I think it's certainly a possibility in the case of the Schraders.

I finally got around to watching Confessions, I'm still in shock and awe. There isn't enough Jesus Christ Marie's to adequately represent how I feel.

I thought Saul was a goner there. I couldn't take seeing Huell die. It would be like someone shooting a giant black manatee.

I just got done with tonight's episode. Hold me.

I think the whole Walter is a eldritch monster that wants to consume the tears of all those around him thing gets taken a bit far and I think its a disservice to the character, Cranston's acting and the writing.

Now Walter's a terrible person and ultimately anything that happens to him he deserves but the guy obviously cares about his family even if it gets muddled with his huge personal defects. I don't doubt for a second he would actually jump in the way of a bullet for them. The way people talk its like if they all exploded in a fire (hey who knows considering this week) but he got to keep Heisenberg he'd shrug it off with a smile and get back to making meth.

Sure, but which part was more genuine? The "do it for the kids" aspect of it, or the "don't make go through this for nothing" part. He kind of makes it about himself again doesn't he? And the fact that he, after discovering first hand how useless and empty an illicit fortune is, would saddle that much drug money onto his kids raises some questions as well.

I think he would absolutely kill the Schraders if they really posed a threat, or if push came to shove, Skyler as well. It's not that I think he would murder his children or something, I just don't think he cares about "family" as much as he's ever let on. Walt's past and the "I'm in the empire business" scene tell me everything I need to know about where he's coming from.

My little half-formed theory is that I don't think he ever really wanted to settle down and be a "family man". After Grey Matter, he just sort of settled into that kind of life because that was the easy path. He regrets it and I think maybe he resents his family a bit for shackling him to an unfulfilling life.

Agreed. I think his journey has definitely taken on a life of it's own due to his ego and desire to do what he wants, regardless of the cost, but the notion of doing this for his family still stands, as far as I'm concerned.

Then why did he offer to surrender to the police? He seemed to consider all of them together a threat serious enough that he could not reasonably elude capture.

Even after he explicitly stated that he's doing it to build an empire because he's insanely bitter about what went down with Grey Matter?

One doesn't negate the other.
