Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

I honestly think she is content with her wife/mom life and running her business. Everyone doesn’t want work in Hollywood forever eventually they have other goals and working for so long getting the money to help you along the way isn’t a bad thing and not to mention having a fan base with help. I hope she comes back to the big screen one day.

Yeah. Achieving perpetual great success in Hollywood is nice, but so is "Getting the cash and getting out" so to speak. There are *much* worse outcomes than "I have made enough from acting that I don't need to act again".

Season 2 is a slow starter but I'm getting into those sequence of episodes now that end up leading to arguably the best season of the series (well for me anyway).

It's hard to buy into Angel and Buffy's relationship for a point until the Halloween episode where their relationship goes from weird obsession to genuine care and love for one another.

i just finished the episode on buffy S5 where the new Big Bad is introduced. I know her name is Glory but it hasn't been revealed yet. I also recognize her from Bring It On lol.
i liked this episode a lot, about how worried the girls are about Joyce, and the lengths Buffy goes to try and help her. It was really interesting to see Dawn fading from the photos and how they made it seem like she was potentially the threat to Joyce.
i liked the dialogue between Buffy and the Priest about Dawn and how she's innocent and doesn't know what she is etc. And Buffy was innocent in all this too, you could feel her pain. She didn't ask for any of this, especially this new stuff and now everything she knows is suspect. When she and Dawn were arguing and she cut her off with something like "you've never been able to take an apology, ever since"... that was good stuff. it kinda reminds me of I Will Remember You where Angel is the only one who remembers the day. And is burdened with it. Now Buffy is the one with this burden and only she knows.

i'm still alternating between the shows so the next ep for me will be the Angel episode where Wesley impersonates him.

Wes impersonating Angel was pretty funny. I like how the rumors of Angel's curse had gotten out and that people thought he was a Eunuch. I forgotten about that, and had a good chuckle from it.

I'm really liking the past few episodes of Buffy I have watched. Tara's family came to town because of her birthday, and who do I spot? Amy Adams! I don't remember her being on the show. i remember her from Smallville though, bless her heart. Kinda messed up that Tara's family brainwashed the females into their backwater way of thinking to keep them submissive. Take out the demon aspect, and sadly it probably goes on in the world way more than we think these days. Anyways, I liked that it was Buffy that claimed they were Tara's family, even though the whole episode she kinda went back and forth on how they don't really know her or that she's "nice" and that's about it.
Not going to lie, can't believe how successful Giles' magic shop is, but then again, it is Sunnydale.
They only touched on it briefly, but I felt kinda bad that Buffy was moving out of her dorm to move back one. Just another sacrifice she has had to make in the Slaying game. It was a small thing, but i'm glad they hinted at it.

I looked into the Buffy reboot comics just to see what they are doing nowadays and wow...talk about fast forwarding.
Buffy/Kendra/Faith are all currently active Slayers
Cordelia is barely in the series
Robin Wood is a teen and apparently Kendras watcher

They are really having their cake and eating it to.

I was feeling super nostalgic the other day and decided to watch the first few episodes of season one. Sarah Michelle Gellar is sooo good as Buffy. There have been so many characters post-Buffy that were inspired by her where they were made to be super quick-witted, kinda fast-talking and “quippy” and those characters can become annoying really but SMG really pulls it off so well. It’s giving me a newfound admiration for her :funny:. Like I always liked her and Buffy but I think I was too young at the time to fully understand what a good job she was doing. Bravo :wowe:.

And the rest of the show is still really enjoyable. I was worried it would feel too out-dated but it works for the most part. Charisma Carpenter is also killing it as Cordelia right from the start. Xander is the only one who hasn’t aged all that well. He was never my favourite but his whiny ass is way, wayyy more annoying to me now .

I watch episodes now as an adult and I never remember wanting to punch Xander in the face as much as I did when I was 11 watching this. He’s incorrigible at times.

Wish they gave Charisma more screen time in the early years of the show.

There have been so many characters in the mould of SMG's Buffy that are still being introduced to this day, but it's difficult to nail the warmth, kindness, steeliness and vulnerability that's all happening underneath Buffy's quippy exterior. It's just a testament to SMG as an actress that many have tried to follow in her footsteps yet stumble.

I'm loving Charisma Carpenter on this rewatch I'm doing as well. Well into Season 3 and I'm going to miss her. I'd almost go as far as to say she's second to SMG in acting on the show because she was doing complex work before any of the characters began to deviate from their "schtick" on the show.

I’m just at the beginning where he didn’t bother me as a child but now I hate him. I’m dreading watching the later stuff where I actually disliked him back then. Wonder my reaction will be to his more *****ey acts later :nrv:.
Wish they gave Charisma more screen time in the early years of the show.
She was always one of my favourites. It’s just so sad what happened to her in the end :(.

Absolutely . It’s very hard to get it right evidently but she makes it look so effortless.

I’ve only just started season one where her character is essentially just the “mean girl” but I’m surprised how much she’s made Cordelia likeable even at this stage. I think her, Gellar and Anthony Head did the best work right from the start. You can already see hints of the more developed Giles that cares for Buffy instead of just the grumpy, old mentor. Xander, Willow and Angel are sadly just caricatures at this point.

Glory!! My fave Big Bad. :hrt:

Amy Adams really did pop up everywhere on TV before she hit it big. Buffy, Smallville, That 70's Show, Charmed, The West Wing, The Office...girl kept busy. And yeah, only in Sunnydale could a magic shop be that popular. But hey, it makes total sense. :funny:

Just finished The Prom and had to take a break. I always find that episode very hard to watch. Mind you the Class Protector moment is one of my favourites from the series.

It's strange that this never occured to me before, but Angel's reason for leaving was all for nought. Buffy didn't get the life Angel thought she would. I get that this is where the growth for both characters really began though.

Being fair, he couldn't have really known how vigorously the writers hate happiness, not at that point. ;)

I did not miss the misery of this show. Anyway, that's season 3 done. Not like there's any misery to experience in season 4....cough.

She stopped making out in graveyards so that was growth?

Yeah, a very fine bit of writing, exposition and performance in the Buffy/monk scene.

In this and subsequent episodes, the existentialism of Dawn was fairly coherent. Essentially, there was no difference between Dawn being real and just thinking she was real. Towards the end of the season, however, the philosophy backtracked and got a bit muddled. I suppose this served the drama and conflict; but it was at the expense of consistency.

I'm not sure I understand, but what I meant is that in Buffy's case, Angel leaving is the beginning of a shift in character, much more emotionally distant and detached.

He wanted Buffy to have a normal-ish life, be out in the sun. When he left, that did happen for the most part. Sure she still slayed vamps but she was able to live her love life in the sun, go to the beach, etc..

I don't know if I'd agree. Having a love life in the light didn't make all that much of a difference to her in the end. Were her relationships after Angel any better for her?

I mean she ended up back in the dark given her complex relationship with Spike so that to me suggests Buffy was never meant to have any kind of normalcy. A relationship in the sun by the end of the series would seem superfluous to Buffy for me.

Obviously Angel wasn't to know this, just making an observation as a fan that it's sad that him leaving didn't lead to Buffy achieving any kind of ideal normalcy that he was hoping for.

I think she was able to achieve as much normalcy as she ever would be able to as a full time Slayer for a short amount of time. Had the situation at the end of S5 not happened then I doubt she'd have had the relationship she had with Spike in S6+. Angel wanted the best for Buffy but of course a white picket fence was just unrealistic as they found out in I Will Remember You.

Me, I am quite happy that Angel left, mostly because while Buffy may not have ultimately benefited from leaving that relationship, Angel absolutely did. Granted, this is mostly an artifact of Angel the Series generally having much better writing quality than Buffy did, but still.
