Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

Anyone here reading the BOOM Studios books? I just got the first Buffy trade and I'm rather enjoying it, but I'm really looking forward to the inevitable reveal that the reboot of it all is some sort of Star Trek '09-esque alternate universe/time travel thing.

I don't know, they have stuck with the modern setting for Power Rangers.

Im liking it so far, it could have needed a bit more world and character building but so far its really entertaining.
I dont expect them to reveal that, mainly because imo it doesnt need to.
Most Buffy fans see it as some alternate universe right from the start, so its not something new..

I wouldnt want to be in the same room as Boreanaz too, the guy is a *****ebag.

Im kind of liking it so far.
They need to do more world building but so far im quite happy with what they are doing...its better than season 12 comics thats for sure.
Of course i can only approve of it when Spuffy happens but so far its okay.

I just wish someone would get the rights from Whedon, there would be so much potential for the buffy universe but nothing seems to go.
Barely any merchandise or anything...i want more buffy stuff.
Joss Whedon does not own the rights to Buffy the Vanpire Slayer.

It's ok but is very fast paced and gave up a lot of development to get some characters to certain points.

I gave up around the time Cordelia cut her hair short, dyed it blonde, and Connor appeared. I might've gotten to the end of that season but got bored.

I remember giving up on Buffy before Season 7. Maybe even by Season 5. I was fed up of the Scooby gang and all their Whedonisms. I did watch the occasional episode here and there like the musical one or the finale.
I strongly recommend season five. The Angel/Spike stuff is great, IMO. For me, Seasons 1 & 5 are the best seasons.

I wouldn't have minded James Marsters being on the cover. I know he was only a regular for one season and made a few appearances in seasons 1 & 2, but he was a great character and contributed so much, IMO. I would take that one season of Spike over everything we got from Gunn, who was a boring character for me.

Seasons 2, 3 and 5 were the best. 4 started off strong with The Beast then floundered with Cordelia, Jasmine. And I liked the escalation of all of the events I just didn't much care for the execution.

The only highlight of season 5 was “Smile Time” and the episode with the Psycho Slayer. Was not a fan of Angel Investigations inheriting Wolfram & Hart, it went against everything the show stood for.

im still on season 3 of buffy :/ i'd been traveling for work so much that i canceled my hulu/netflix et al, but now that i'm traveling and there is so much down time, i'm thinking to resubscribe to at least one and i can catch up or at the least finish the season

Oh Amy Acker <3

I love Angel. If only S4 didn't butcher Cordelia, it'd be pretty much flawless for me. Still hoping for a proper HD release of this and Buffy one day.

i just finished reading the article, pretty cool. i plan on watching the actual cast reunion ep tonight.
Angel link if anyone's interested. it's about 45 min long

okay i was impatient so i went ahead and watched the ep. wouldn't have minded if it was longer at all.

i had seen Angel from the beginning, still haven't seen all of buffy, but now i really want to start binge watching them lol. stupid job in the way. i'm not off until next tuesday :cries:

I have been re-watching episodes from Buffy season 2 and Angel season 1 recently and I have been enjoying them. I found it silly how Spike left Buffy in Becoming part 2, when Angelus was in the ascendancy. If Angelus won, the world would have been destroyed, which is not what he wanted.

IMO, Angel picks up big time when Wesley replaces Doyle. For me, he is a much better character. I find a lot of Doyle and Cordelia's interactions to be so cliche and cringe-inducing. Wesley and Cordelia work much better together, IMO. Not saying it is just down to Wesley replacing Doyle, as it is also down to a lot of other reasons, but that is a big one for me.

Spike is a great and interesting mirror to Buffy IMO, with a lot of his motivations being dark inversions of hers, especially when it comes to love, which is something that is a very consistent motivator for Spike. For me it is a shame we did not continue to get more of him as a hero in Angel. In many ways he is like a poor mans Angel. Angel is given a soul and a grand destiny, Spike has to fight for them, Spike having to fight far more for Buffy than Angel, Angel being the big bad of a season and Spike never quite getting to be that e.t.c. I have downplayed Angel in a lot of ways there, as his situation is very complex, but I think Spike being portrayed as a poor-mans version of Angel is something that was intended by the writers, with him being the underdog far more than Angel is. I would have loved to have seen his redemptive journey continue, with it being an interesting inversion of Angels journey one of the big reasons.

What do people make of Angelus as a villain? Overall, I like him, but find him a bit annoying at the same time. I find him to be very over-the-top and try-hard (certainly nowhere near as bad as Letoker in that regard, but still). David Boreanaz has a charisma about him that makes me get enjoyment from the character, as funny, silly and unspecific as that might sound. I think on paper he is an interesting character, but him being so over-the-top and try-hard is what ruins him for me. He draws things out too much and goes on and on too much for my liking. I get that he likes to torture people, so him doing that makes sense, but the manner in which he does it is annoying, IMO.

When he is taunting people, a lot of the time he seems to me like he is making up the stuff he is saying as he goes along, and I do not find a lot of it to be very clever, funny or well-thought out. Despite those criticisms, at his best, I like how the character has insight and can see through people and their weaknesses, and when people are string enough to fight back against him, they come out stronger. When he is mocking people about their insecurities, weaknesses and hypocrisies, that is when I like him best. The way he mocked Jenny Calendar was not something I enjoyed much.

I think Marsters performance as Spike is better than Davids as Angel, but I think Boreanaz is more charismatic than James (charisma can be quite hard to define, so the exactitude in that statement is not very high).

I think he was a great villain, he liked to play with his food before eating it which was his eventual downfall but he was cocky, had personality, sadistic.

Spike was a bad boy who always had something to prove.

Just got my hands on the first issue of Boom Studios's Angel comic. Very different set up from the show, but it works. I think not having the supporting cast so far avoids rushing things like I know some of you complained about with Buffy.

Just finished season 1 of Angel. Vocah was a good villain, IMO. He had an intensity and a can-do, no-nonsense attitude that made him more threatening than most villains on these shows. For me, it is a shame they did not keep him around and give him more depth to have made him interesting.

Now onto season 5 because that is how I roll.

Angel isn't just a good spin off but a good tv show in its own right. Its probably one of the few shows where I've enjoyed every single season (Yes I even liked season 4 despite its flaws). Its a shame that it was cancelled and I have a good feeling that season 6 would have been great but at least we've got a satisfying finale so I can't complain too much.

I think I actually prefer Angel over Buffy. There was just something about that show.

man now yall really making me want to get back into it

I go back and forth between The Mayor, Glory and that Spike/Angelus double whammy for best villain.

Adam is the tie breaker :o

If he managed to tempt and corrupt Eve, with her losing her immortality as a result, does that mean Lindsay is the......?
