Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire

It's pretty hilarious going back to look at old statements from the guy who was responsible for Angel getting cancelled. There was a pilot for a Dark Shadows revival also in the works at the time, for the 2004-2005 season on The WB. His statements were literally...

"Yes, I think there is room for two different vampire series on the network."
*three or four months pass*
"Yes, this will be Angel's final season. But there is absolutely still room for Dark Shadows on the fall schedule."
*a few months pass*
"No, we will not be picking up Dark Shadows."

Then, of course, there is David Fury's account of why Angel got cancelled in the first place...
The only reason that Angel didn't come back...it's a very simple thing. Because our ratings were up, because of our critical attention, Joss specifically asked Jordan Levin, who was the head of The WB at the time, to give us an early pick-up because every year they [would] wait so long to give Angel a pick-up [and] a lot of us [would] turn down jobs hoping that Angel will continue – he [Joss] didn't want that to happen. So, he was feeling very confident and he [Joss] just asked Jordan, "Like, make your decision now whether you're going to pick us up or not," and Jordan, sort of with his hands tied, with his back up against the wall, called him the next day and said, "Okay, we're canceling you." Jordan's no longer there and The WB has since recognized...I believe Garth Ancier at The WB said that it was a big mistake to cancel Angel. There was a power play that happened that just didn't fall out the way they wanted it to. We wanted to get an early pick-up, we didn't. In fact we forced them [The WB] to make a decision, and with his hand forced he [Levin] made the decision to cancel us. I guarantee that, if we waited as we normally did, by the time May had come around they would have picked up Angel. I can guarantee that.

I'm pretty sure that guy is out of a job.

He is. And deservedly so.

Joss Whedon seriously needs to do a Spike movie or spin-off.

Hell yes. I'd totally be down for that.

It's a shame the Ripper series never happened. That's a lot more interesting to me than anything with Spike.

I would have loved to see more on Giles' past. Just seeing him as a rebel youngster dabbling in dark magics would be awesome.

Anyone here reading Angel and Faith??

Aww to your aww! Charisma looks like an older Nina Doberv (VD) in that pic!

Ya it isnt the BEST episode of the series. I always have to laugh a little at how they are always describing Buffy as a cheerleader Vampire Slayer when she spent all of one episode as one and we never really got to see her past as a cheerleader.

It may have been the best episode of that season, not the entire series

"Passion" is probably my favorite episode of the series.

"Restless" is my personal favorite. But I'd say "Once More, With Feeling" is definitely somewhere in my top 5, so I don't think that article's far off at all.

The Body is totally my favorite.

And all of season 5 was awesome.

Yeah. Listening to Fear was crap, but for the most part season 5 was solid.

Season 5 was the last really great season to me. Seasons 6 and 7 were largely mediocre, as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, will the bots just **** off already? :o

I completely lost track of Buffy and Angel...had a busy few months and haven't had enough time to continue watching through. I'll have to try and get back into them so I can finally finish them.
