True, very true. He is such a legend now a days, he doesnt need anything from anybody really. And he is just not the type to really full out lie. I mean not only has Caine said thees things, but Oldman as well.

And not only that, lets remember, Nolan picked him for a reason. Nolan has done a bang up job on casting so far, the perfect Batman, the perfect Alfred. I'm sure Ledger is there for a reason.

Method acting has been known to happen. The director sometimes makes a cast member feel secluded and alone and sometimes the actor wants it that way. I can just seem them all in full makeup eating at a buffett:

My point from the last page, is that the big issue facing TDK is the joker, since the movie going world has jack nicholson solidified in their heads as the character.

Re-doing such an iconic character that is well famed is the big question. This is obviously an attempt to soothe the worries of people. No they don't need to promote it, but a lot of people are highly cautious about the joker, so this is obviously the reason for the focus on it in the quote etc.

I think the key issue is that this isn't an official statement from a "Dark Knight" press conference, or some on-set interview where he's been asked about The Joker. In that situation, yes, I'd say it's purely marketing.

But Michael Caine has been going out of his way to volunteer his praise for Ledger's performance. Think back when he posted on his official website. He usually just uses that to talk about his schedule, and what he has lined up. And at most he could have said "I was working on "The Dark Knight", coming along nicely," or something like that. But he went out of his way to single out Heath Ledger's performance, and remark how great it is. Same goes for this interview - wasn't it supposed to be about "Sleuth"?

I prefer to think that everyone will say a performance is great because it is.

If you're going to big up a performance - single it out from all the other elements of the film - it usually means its something special. I didn't see George Clooney and Alicia Silverstone go out of their way to talk about how fantastic Arnold Schwarzenegger was as Mr. Freeze, or see Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst gushing about Topher Grace's work as Venom. Sure, they probably had nice things to say if asked. But an actor is staking their reputation on someone else when they go out of their way to single them out. Caine wouldn't set himself up for a fall by telling everyone about how great Ledger is, and how it surpasses Nicholson, if the performance is actually crapola.

I've heard George Clooney say they enjoyed pulling jokes on each other during Batman and Robin. As far as praising each other? I don't really remember it. But it wouldn't surprise me if they did, because from my perspective, they really did seem to enjoy working with one another and loved playing jokes on one another.

As far as Michael Caine's quote? People seem to think he's saying this because the studio is forcing him. Michael Caine is a legend and a wonderful actor, he doesn't seem like the type to cave in to studio pressure and praise something for the sake of praising it. I remember during the Daniel Craig controversy Judi Dench said "You'll see, he's a wonderful actor and he does the character justice."

Not only was she right, but Craig's performance silenced the naysayers and Casino Royale was an amazing film.

Caine obviously see's something in Ledger for him to be singing high praises about his performance.

Most actors and directors praise films that they're working in because they have confidence in the material. Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Peter Jackson, and Viggo Mortensen all said "Return of the King is much better than The Two Towers", and guess what? They were right in my opinion. All of the films were excellent and masterpieces, but Return of the King really brought the story together and LOTR is the trilogies of all trilogies in my opinion.

You've also had people who aren't part of the film and have seen Ledger in the make-up say he looks downright creepy and looks completely in character.

It was either implied or other posters say "Of course he's going to say good things about him, they're in the same movie and it's in his contract not to say anything bad!"

So if you read between the lines some have been saying the studio is forcing him to say good/great things.

In any case, I'm excited about seeing Ledger as The Joker. I've always wanted to see a much more darker, sadistic, and ruthless Joker since I can remember.

I remember him saying he liked her and thought she was a nice lady. I think the problem is Holmes did nothing to promote the film. I think her constantly talking about Tom really rubbed the cast and fans the wrong way, and rightfully so in my opinion.

Bale also criticized and took a shot(verbal obviously) at Katie during the promotion of the film.

When asked about Katie/Tom Cruise during the promotion of the film he literally said "Good for them. But who the hell cares?" That's all people seemed to be interested in during the promotion for BB.

Well, I'm aware. But I live in a place where little to nothing was known about Katie and Tom, at least during the BB release. Nevertheless what she did on screen was poor, promotion or not promotion.
