Not really. Spider-Man had heart and is someone everyone can relate to. Spider-Man 2 was not only an action movie, but so a romance movie, which upped the appeal to just about anyone. Spider-Man 2 was one of the best reviewed movies of 2004, if not the best. It wasn't just a popcorn movie, because SM2 had alot of substance.
As for a Best Picture nomination, I have no doubt this movie will rank with anything else this year in terms of its complexity, depth, scope and quality of acting and direction. But ultimately the Academy will just snub their collective nose at it because after all, it's just a comic book movie.![]()
I think that, however deserving it might be, "The Dark Knight" winning the likes of Best Picture or Best Director is still unlikely. However, I think it's feasible that it could be at least NOMINATED.
I have to agree. If the Oscars want to increase their ratings, they'll be smart to nominate this movie for something other than a technical award. Ratings generally go up when there's at least one big blockbuster nominated for a major award.
It will be nominated for best supporting actor, adapted screenplay, visual effects, editing and cinematography. It has a LONG shot at a nomination for best director and a slim-to-none chance to being nominated for best picture (thought it deserves it). I also think Eckhart deserves a nomination, but that will never happen.
