So before these reviews, my prediction was a $180-190m domestic opening weekend. Now I'm gonna say $210-215m.

Im gonna stay in the $180-$190 range. I really don't see this movie passing the $200 mil mark.

I am going to say 200 OW. 600m USA by the end and 1 billion OS for 1.6 billion WW.

200 million is still super rare territory.

TFA had more pre-release hype than any movie in history with a huge built-in fan base and it "only" grossed 247 million OW. Meaning just getting over 200 takes so much.

190 range is where I think this will land.

I know this is "in name only", but after years of hearing people call Captain America "A B-lister", it's so rich to see him set to have the most successful "Solo" movie of all time.

There is some merit to it. I've seen many reviews mentioning that it is a Captain America movie, plot-wise. Kinda like how the Daredevil TV show is still about DD even though Electra and Punisher are there.

It's definitely NOT in Name Only. This is the third Captain America movie. There is no doubt about it. If Iron Man guests star in a Spider-man comic that doesn't make it the title Iron Man/Spider-man, it's still The Amazing Spider-man.

I think any way you look at it, little kids today will grow up seeing no difference between The Big 4 Avengers and Batman and Superman, which is a huge feather in the cap of Marvel.

I have a feeling AOU would've crossed 200 m OW without the Mayweather fight.

Civil War is a perfect storm: event film, better marketing, fantastic reviews, positive buzz, Spider-man, emotional crowd pleaser, etc

That's why Civil War will be in the top 2 grossing movies of the year. Maybe the top spot. I need to see more from Rogue One first! :woot:

TFAs opening weekend was actually muted by the holiday and still it opened about three times bigger than any other movie did in December. If it had a summer opening it probably would have hit $300m+ o/w.

I'm confident this breaks $200m on OW for DOM. I know me going to see 3 times that weekend will help as well. :D

What are you guys predicting for the 2nd weekend? From the reviews I've read the Russos certainly didn't skip leg day! :D

The very best scenario is probably a 45% drop but no MCU flick has managed that and a huge OW lends itself to steeper drops. I'm guessing a 50% drop based on the glowing early reviews, which is about the same as The Avengers.

If it opens to only $185M (which seems unlikely) that would be $92M for the second weekend; a $210M OW would be a $105M second weekend. The top second weekend is out of reach (TFA with $149M) but second place is possible (JW with $106M).

I hope CA: CW does really well but no way does it do $550M DOM. That is just way to much optimism right there. And also having Finding Dory opening to only $108M is laughable. That movie is going to be huge.
Finding Dory is over a month out so the tracking data for that will likely increase as its release date nears and buzz builds over it.

I don't really care about box office numbers but I hope this one explodes and exceeds all our expectations. The movie was fantastic, there wasn't a second where I was bored or disappointed. I can't wait to spend some money on it.
