First Avenger Captain America: The First Avenger DVD Thread

Here's a DVD giveaway for Captain America, not sure if this belongs in here, but seems like the most appropriate place on the boards. If anyone knows of any others let me know!

There is an entire section about Cap on these boards...

MAN, that looks SWEET!!! Any idea if that is the 3D version of the movie? I can't tell. If it is, I am definitely importing!

That is the Blu Ray/DVD/Digital combo pack. The 3D looks the same as the American one, sorry.

I think most Blu Rays are region free mostly but it would be best to check. My Green Lantern BR starts with an FBI warning and that was bought in the UK. Looks to me like a standard mass print to save costs of remastering for each region

Trench warfare? who knew.
That concert scene looks very much like the opening scenes from Iron Man 2

I think they were jumping in to fox holes or craters.

Why did they delete that scene? It would've added an actual battle instead of just having the montage.

They guessed(and apparently were right) that fans would have preferred simple montage style of the bulk of the battle/action.

DId fans really prefer that though? I thought a lot of people here wished that we saw some actual battles not montage.

That particular scene is nice, but it brings the attention back to Bucky and lessons the impact of the audience finding out he's captured or killed when Steve finds out. It also takes away from the individual character intros of the Howling Commandos.

Good scenes aren't necessarily the right scenes for movies. This was a good scene, but belongs where it ended up (the cutting room floor).

It probably would have worked better had they been random soldiers discovering the new high tech tanks.

Me included.......given that the tank in the deleted scene appears to be the same HYDRA used to level the Norwegian town that harbored the Cube, and the same tank we see destroyed in the montage, an expanded battle with Cap and the Commandos destroying same would have been sweet.

Not like that was much of an impressive battle sequence. I don't mind it was cut.

Impressive review from Blu-ray.com for Captain America on Blu-ray!

4.5 out of 5

Captain America: The First Avenger Blu-ray, Video Quality

Captain America leaps onto Blu-ray with a gorgeous 1080p transfer. The image appears rather subdued by design; fine detail is extensive but not always redly evident, and colors are dull throughout. That doesn't make this any less of a looker. Paramount's transfer is extraordinarily stable, crisp, and yields breathtaking clarity and cleanliness.

Detailing is astounding in spots; complex facial textures are evident in both the brightest shots and the lowest-light conditions alike, but the picture's sepia-toned shots do lend a rather pasty look to faces where shadowy corners occasionally struggle with smooth color transition. Nevertheless, textures on military helmets, Captain America's complex suit, concrete and brick façades, and the like are all outstanding. The digital photography occasionally produces minor banding, but the image is otherwise pristine and free of any perceptible digital anomalies. Blacks are sturdy and inky, yielding richly-texrtured dark scenes and never crushing out details. Some viewers may be turned off by the absence of "eye candy" visuals; the color palette in particular appears always drained and favoring a dark gray, black, blue, or sepia-toned structure.

There's no denying that this is another first-rate Blu-ray transfer from Paramount.

Captain America: The First Avenger Blu-ray, Audio Quality

Captain America blasts onto Blu-ray with a well-rounded DTS-HD MA 7.1 lossless soundtrack. This is a balanced but still exciting track that handles every extreme thrown its way with ease. Whether a chilled Arctic wind that blows through the listening area at film's start or minor ambience like Brooklyn traffic, buzzing insects, or the rumble of a prop plane as heard inside the cabin, the track never fails to surround the listener with mood- and scene-critical atmospherics. At the same time, there's no shortage of high-energy sound, either. The action proves totally immersive; gunfire -- from conventional and fictitious energy weapons alike -- erupts from every corner of the listening area during shootouts.

Explosions are hefty and built through strong, but not excessive, bass. The surround speakers carry much of the action, helping to immerse the audience in the film's most dangerous scenes.

Music is strong, balanced, spacious, and incredibly clear. It's carried by the front but, like everything else, enjoys some measure of surround support. Dialogue remains grounded up the middle in every scene; it's clear and never lost through any of the supporting elements, heavy or otherwise. It's not quite on the level of spectacular, but this is pretty much everything an action-oriented, fresh-from-theaters soundtrack should be.

don't know if i will get this on blu ray or not might just get the dvd and digital copy

Well for Thor I bought the Combo pack even tho I don't have a Bluray player. lol I plan on doing the Same for Cap too. I can't wait for tuesday!!!

I looked for the Thor version of that, best buy doesn't have it and I know I saw a version with Journey into Mystery 83 somewhere

Yes, I picked up that Thor exclusive from Best Buy. It's just the cardboard slip-cover, but it is kinda cool, so I think I'll be getting Cap there as well.
