I loved this movie! It does raises questions concerning Shield. I wonder what becomes of the organization...and its members...

4/5

This movie was great. I'm not going to post all the positives because there were so damn many and just about everyone else has already posted them.

Only problems I had with the film was some of the shaky cam during the fights. I was able to make out everything going on but it would have been nice if they had some still shots here and there. The fight with Batroc could have been a tad longer and...well ****, I guess those are the only two.

I enjoyed IM3 and Thor 2 but CA: WS blew them out of the water. If GotG is great, at least I got two awesome Phase 2 films. Both IM3 and Thor2 I rated 3/5 or 3.5/5. They just needed to tone down the humor a bit and they would have been a lot better.

As others have said, not only am I excited for Avengers:AoU but I really can't wait for Cap3, especially since the Russos are returning.

The Russo bro's are returning for cap3? Awesome. They did a great job.

Another thing I forgot to mention.

I disagree with those who say Bucky/WS got short changed in this film. I believe in the notion that you can have too much of a good thing. It was great seeing him pop up out of nowhere. From seeing the trailers and extra clips, we all pretty much knew what scenes he was going to be in but it was still great to see how he came into every scene. When Fury is in that car chase it was awesome seeing from the windshield WS standing there in the smoke.

Agree completely. The use of the Winter Soldier was darn near perfect imo.

As for the review of this movie. I came out of the theater with this same smile on my face as I did for Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, X-Men, and The Avengers. It's such an enjoyable film that you immediately want a sequel.

I felt this was the first movie where you wanted to see Black Widow. And not in some tight fitting dress like in Iron Man 2. Don't get me wrong, her writing was a big upgrade in Avengers, but I was more interested in seeing more of the heavy hitters of the Avengers. She really shined in this. Dare I say most justice done to a non-damsel in distress female character in any superhero movie ever?

Falcon was impressive in this as well. The whole thing looked a bit silly in the trailers, with the wings, but it looked great on the big screen. The chemistry between Falcon and Cap was one of the better aspects of the movie. There is kind of an 'I Love You Man' angle to it. Like, it's easy for a good looking dude like Cap to find a girlfriend but he doesn't have any bros. They are all long dead or are currently trying to kill him. Seeing Cap find a friend is one of the more underrated bits of the movie.

This was also the first time that Fury was a legitimately great character. He has always been the guy that is one step ahead of everyone and the boss. Comic relief in Iron Man 2 and a device to move the plot along in Avengers. He was a real character in this movie and I look forward to his next appearance. Especially liked his story about his grandpa and how it kind of made him into what he is. Underground Fury is cooler than Fury in an office talking to holograms.

Winter Soldier was like a Terminator. The fight sequences between him and pretty much anyone got in his path. Didn't expect that in this movie. Can't wait to see where his story goes from here after pummeling Cap, saving his life from drowning, and then visiting the Smithsonian exhibit on his past life.

Redford good as expected, not much more to say about that. He elevated the movie, plain and simple. People with their 'cheap Marvel' comments aren't really around too much anymore, are they? How many Hollywood icons have they had on board now?

Special shoutout to Zola, Batroc, and Crossbones. Zola's scene was kind of chilling. Like a horror movie where they find this undead creature buried. I hope he is still around for later movies. Crossbones was a perfect henchman bad guy. He played him real cool, kind of like James Badge Dale in Iron Man 3. And Batroc….that fight sequence was very Raid-like. GSP was really, really good and hopefully he parlays that into more movie roles.

Nice Avy!

I can't wait to see this movie again. I'm glad the hype from everyone who saw it Thursday night and before that didn't ruin it for me. It didn't quite exceed my expectations with all that hype going around but it definitely met them which is just as good.

Over time I've noticed a good number of comic fans tend to complain about certain comic films that put in themes involving real word politics, like in TDK with the sonar he used to spy on everyone. As long as it's relevant to our times I tend to really like it and Captain American with an agency like S.H.I.E.L.D. involved was the right film to do it in. With Captain's old school values questioning what is going on in the country and world today.

Yeah, I love it. Big thanks to Kane. :D

I am right there with you on the relevant topics. With a character like Cap, his interaction with the "real world" almost demands it. He is a soldier afterall. Also, The film didn't "exceed" my expectations either, but the amount of hype it really couldn't. I was expecting a great film, and that is exatly what I got.

I can't imagine why someone who likes action/comic films would hate this movie. It's a solid movie and is definitely worthy of all the praise and good reviews.

I also didn't mind the darker costume he used for most of the film but it brought a smile to my face when he put on the old one.

just got back from it.

I enjoyed it!

but I really enjoyed the mid credit scene!! :cwink:

I think that is why The Avengers worked. The clash between the humor, sarcasm, and self-centered nature of the Iron Man movies with the traditional heroism of Captain America. These two characters are the heart of the Marvel Universe. It's kind of sad that the humor grates on many fans of the genre who clearly want a specific template of tone. A sense of humor, in my opinion, maintains the vitality of the MCU. It's why Marvel Studios can print money and make whatever kind of movie they want to, regardless of the risks (Guardians, Ant Man, Dr. Strange). Take that away and all we are left with it is a self-important spectacle of dudes in rubber suits. I won't name names.

This 'Iron Man 3 sucks' meme has to go away. I understand that some here have agendas and personal biases but this notion that it's fact irks me. To slam an otherwise good movie, because of a disagreement over a stupid character to begin with, strikes me as petty & nitpicky. Winter Soldier is obviously a superior movie but IM3 is mere notches below on my own rankings. Iron Man 3 is the True Lies to Winter Soldier's Bourne franchise. I enjoy that contrast of the Phase II movies. They handle the same theme but in a different manner. Hopefully we see the same with Thor and Guardians---the optimistic Star Trek universe and the grimy, bounty hunters in cantinas Star Wars universe.

I get ya but everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if you don't agree with them. I just found it a bit funny that you had all of these Mandarin fans coming out of nowhere.:lmao:

What was your favorite part of Cap2?:woot:

Love the new avy btw.:cwink:

I'm so stubborn, my and brain is telling me this is the best CBM I've ever seen....but my heart just keep saying AVENGERS!!!!! The thing is ....Avengers gave me a feeling in that theater that I don't even think AOU will be able to replicate emotionally flaws and all, but this movie.....oh this moooovie is magical IMO I can even admit it is the better movie by a mile.... but I'm just hesitant to take Avengers out of my top spot!!! lol

The Avengers had a unique novelty factor that other comics films haven't. Seeing all the Avengers together was basically the culmination of everything we've experienced with comics movies so far - storywise, it was very basic, but the spectacle and awe factor made up for it. I'm sure the JLA movie, if its made, will have the same.

In terms of writing and script quality, its not even approaching TWS though. This wasn't just a great comics movie, it was a brilliant film to boot, as you mentioned. Avengers and Iron Man 1 round my top 3, but neither equaled Cap 2 in terms of combining intelligent writing, top notch action, high emotional beats, suspense, lack of wasted screentime, and poignant character development.

And there's something pleasantly unnerving about seeing someone human do such superhuman things. Aesthetically not as pretty as Thor or Hulk destroying giant monsters, but watching Cap ragdoll normal people and dominate the best trained fighters in the world so brutally was more jarring in a way.

The Jason Bourne fight choreography has been my favorite of the recent action movies and this was like Bourne on steroids mixed with crack. Cap's speed, power and agility was intimidating to watch and the skill he displayed is even now being undersold. The Winter Soldier had a metal arm and a knife and still couldn't gain the advantage even after Cap lost his shield in that first fight. That was amazing.

Saw this today and loved it. Might be the best Marvel movie yet. Not perfect, but a very solid story that moves Cap, Black Widow and Nick Fury forward while also introducing great new characters like Falcon and Rumlow. Really excited to see what happens next.

8.5/10

9/10

This was the best Marvel effort since the Avengers.

Was anyone expecting Sebastian Stan to kill it like that? How great was that scene where they were putting him back under the mind-zapper and his face was both accepting and confused at the same time? I would have loved to see him and Cap reunite as brothers but this film, smartly, teased us with it and left some room for the story to resolve in the next flick.

The relationship between Cap and Widow was perfect too. The first film where I felt like she made up an essential part of the plot and helped move it along exactly the way it should. That they work together so much in the comics at this point makes the relationship so much realer too.

I find it really hard to pick my favourite action scene. But right now my favourite is the elevator fight. The way it builds, with the lift stopping on each floor and more and more guys getting in. Then Cap's bad ass line to kick off the carnage... just so bad ass. And the choreography was spot on. It's so difficult to get that right. No fancy moves or big open spaces. Just actual carnage in a small space and all the stuntmen had something to do. We don't get any of them standing around waiting to be beaten up like in the Batman movies.

Technically flawless.

Oh, I demand the bro-down that was promised to me!

He was like the T-1000 in Terminator 2 especially when those Shield guys wanted to give Cap air support and he appeared out of nowhere and took them all out.

DARRRTTTHHHH! :argh:

Some call it nitpicking. Others say repeated viewing. Which makes sense. Afterall, there is a high level of initial gratification with these kind of films. They appeal to the fan in all of us. IT also works both ways. Many here would say TFA gets better and better the more you watch it. I am included in that group. I still remember not knowing how to feel about PoA, as it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I was more disappointed then anything. Now it is one of my favorite films.

And well, bias is bias. Just because you like to see the positive doesn't mean others aren't allowed to see something else. Though I definitely prefer your view point in that regard.

This.

I'd say my favorite part of the movie was the ship assault at the beginning. Seeing Cap just truck his way through an army of goons brought back memories of Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty, The Dark Knight finale tower assault, and The Raid. You don't much more badas* than that. The GSP fight to cap it all off too.

I also loved the Zola reveal. There was a very creepy, horror movie element to all that.

Also, Cap bursting through doors and walls like he was the Juggernaut chasing down WS. And of course their later fight on the streets, especially when they go hand to hand.

The action in this film was incredible. The fight choreography put a lot of other movies in this genre to shame. Just so well executed.

I loved that they showed the tactical abilities of Steve and Bucky.

I agree too on Zola. Great interpretation to the comics. Better than a robot walking around with a TV set in his stomach. I could hear the tele-tubby jokes coming from those not familiar with the comics.

Arnim Zola. Toby Jones playes him. He's the AI in the bunker that reveals HYDRA's conspiracy.
