Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

She does, and also like some frazzled working mom in a Captain Marvel costume, and not Carol Danvers, air force pilot. She looks like some mom who is reluctantly posing in the costume for her kid's Halloween party, and now she's got her hands on her hips saying "are you happy now?"

There must surely be a better photo of Brie out there to choose from than that one.
Eh, I disagree. She has an authority to her in that pic.

It's not the greatest manip, although that's down to the photo they chose.

So if it's really Brie Larson that means no romance plots for CM right? 'Jailbait' Spiderman and 'I wanna do my daddy' Rhodey are both out.

I know there some people who 'ship them but I will never get behind Peter/Carol (which, btw, are my two favorite Marvel superheroes). They're friends and nothing more, it's cute and that's how it will always have to be.
And yeah, MCU Spidey is way too young anyway, so it's a moot point.

Her love interest is most likely going to be Mar-Vell. Why not, let's give Steve and Peggy's doomed relationship some competition. :o

The authority of a mother who has to put her foot down because of her misbehaving kids at Halloween who still wanted to trick even after being treated. :o

She's a good actress, but it would seem like Hollywood is casting firmly within type yet again (another 20-something year-old), which is disappointing. Because I was hoping that if any role could make them give an older actress (mid-30's) a shot, it'd be this one. Guess not.
Age wise, Brie could easily do nine films I don't think the same could be said of an actress in her mid-30s.

Why not? It's not like an actress who would start CM at 35 would be old, crinkly, shriveled and using a walker to get around by the time she is 45. Ageism is annoying.

I'm thankful that the likes of Theron, Beckinsale or Jovovich (yeah I know RE and UW but still valid) prove that women over 40 can still kick ass. Without using a walker.

Because they'd age out of the role.
Makes no sense. These movies don't take place in a vacuum or frozen in time. The characters get older simply because time marches on in every MCU movie.

But apprently men can start at 40+ and not age out of a role. Women can't even be 30 when they start. Urgh.

Because if she already starts out mid-30s then we can't see her rise through the ranks like the comics and we won't be able to grow with her. It's the same reason why Marvel casted a 19 year-old as Spidey, 29 year-old as Cap, a 27 year-old as Thor etc so we can grow with the character & they don't get too old for the part.

Why would we see that with CM? She was already highly accomplished before getting her powers. Her appearance in IW will need to be (in either part 1 or 2) powered up Carol. So the only time to actually see her rise through the ranks would be in her first solo movie. Any movie after she will already be powered up Carol. And she did most of her rising through the ranks before becoming CM.

I'm probably thinking of when she was Ms. Marvel which they'll probably be skipping to Cpt Marvel, but still. And yep, she was highly accomplished before powers, and part of that dynamic was that she was younger than most people to have become a major (likely in her mid-twenties) so that in itself was impressive to everybody. That's why a 35 year-old wouldn't work. And what if she's pre-powered in Infinity pt 1 but powered in pt 2? 'cause Feige said CM is an origin story, so i'm guessing the accident happens in between both movies.

...or the accident happens in Infinity Wars pt 1, but she doesn't start developing her powers until her solo movie. I could see them going that route. It gets the "accident"(and the screen time devoted to it) out of the way, but still allows the solo film to remain a Captain Marvel origin story.

As long as she shows up as Carol in IW1, I'm cool with how they handle it. I think we'll at least get a disappearance in IW1, but maybe no Kaboom. If there is a Kaboom, then I suppose CM could pick up from there. The problem with that is that Feige wants standalones (as I recall) and that would sort of mean that you'd have to have seen IW1 in order to understand CM. Maybe they just do a brief recap of the disappearance??? I dunno.....it's not like a lot of people who didn't see IW1 are going to show up for CM.

I'd like the full origin in CM, but early so she can blast some bad guys without rushing it.

I think Infinity War part 1 will feature a pre-origin story Carol (in a minor role setting up her compentency as well as probably being part of a spance agency or defense group that has to deal with the looming cosmic threats) well as Mar-Vell (in some capacity that gives him a reason to come to Earth). Then we'll get Captain Marvel featuring her origin story with her and Mar-Vell crossing paths and him dying and her getting her powers and the Kree being set up in a big way with Yon-Rogg being the villain (they've got some setup in Guardians, but Marvel probably wants to prop them up in a big way because of how connected they are to many other characters including the Inhumans), which will lead her to appear fully as Captain Marvel in Infinity War part 2.

Obviously they'll be more to it but I think that'll be the general plan for her.

In Infinity War Part 2 she'll have a bigger role and be key to helping the Avengers beat Thanos.

Captain Marvel screenwriters following Brie Larson on Twitter. Hint to casting?

Oh wow, BOTH screenwriters??? That can't be a coincidence. I'm officially getting excited. Something big better happen tomorrow, dammit.

Nice find, Darth.

Thanks! And the cool part... neither one of them are following ANY of the actresses who were fancast by people for CM. Brie is the only one. Nicole Perlman is even following one of the Brie Fan Twitter accounts.

Also, a few days back, Nicole Perlman was asked if she could confirm any news coming for Captain Marvel. Her response was that she would love to tell the fans all the cool stuff she knows that's coming soon, but that she's only a screenwriter and they are never allowed to break the big news stories.

I need that announcement tomorrow. :hrt:

Brie seems like a rather cheesy name.

Lar lar lar

Anyway, I agree that the scriptwriters following her is too much of a coincidence to not be a sign.
