Her talents would be best served as civilian #7 with no lines.
"Hostage with mouth taped shut #3" when Carol has to stop a bank robber.

I think that people hope that the Marvel that cast a 46 year old Paul Rudd as Ant-Man don't believe that an actress has to be below the age of 25 in order to play Captain Marvel. I love plenty of younger actresses but they shouldn't be the only ones scoring roles. The extreme ageism towards actresses is disgusting and I want it to stop.
Brie Larson in 2018 (when they will probably start filming) is the only really young actress that I hope gets the role.
Exactly.
And to add to that, Carol Danvers is one of the few Marvel characters we've gotten who had a pretty well-established career experience before becoming a superhero, so there should be a pretty clear target age. In the old comics, she's an Air Force major, for which the average age is 33. Since we can assume she's one of the best who rose through the ranks rather quickly, your target range for an actress to play that version would probably be ages 28-35. However, in current comics, she's a colonel with a lot more authority, and the average age for a colonel in the Air Force is...ready for this? Age 45. It is straight up IMPOSSIBLE to become a colonel in today's Air Force in your 20's. So the target range for that version of Carol should be late-30's to late-40's.
Of course they don't have to go with either of those ranks - maybe they'll split the difference and make her a Lt. Colonel - but my point is simple. I just want Marvel to cast Carol at an age appropriate to her experience (whichever rank/experience they choose to give her), as they have done now with Ant-Man (a divorced father formerly respected in his field), Captain America (a young man who volunteered to serve his country during wartime), Thor (an immature young prince), Rhodey (another decorated Air Force Colonel), etc.
Also IM, Hulk, and Hawkeye (who has no superpowers) are all played by guys in the 40's. BP, who was JUST cast, is being played by a guy who's nearly 40. Yet Scarlett (who I DO like) and Liz Olsen were both in their 20's when they were cast, and Olsen still is.
Someone in their mid to late 30's would be an acceptable age to play Carol imo.
she can be one of the dumb female Hulk knockoffs

She was originally Linda Lee Danvers, back in 1961. But yeah, still Danvers and pre-dates Carol. Was Supergirl always known as Kara Danvers? That certainly seems confusing.

By the time Captain Marvel debuts people will think she's a knockoff of Supergirl. I wonder what effect that might have on herIt's kinda funny... we now have a female blond flying brick superhero named Danvers.
Just in the wrong universe!
(I'm referring to Supergirl, of course)
Supergirl getting a hit TV show isn't really gonna cause more of an issue since the issue, however minor, already existed. It'll be fine just as long as they market it right.
She was Linda Danvers or Kara Kent. This show just meshed the two names together.

yeah but on the flipside you had Captain America, Quicksilver, Loki and Thor who were all cast with men in their 20s. I persomally always thought Hemsworth was too young for the role
that particular issue never existed. Supergirl the TV show is the first instance where she has been known as Kara Danvers

I'm not talking about the name. I'm talking about the fact that Carol was always a blond flying brick with energy powers and the last name "Danvers", meaning that regardless of Kara's real name, some folks were inevitably going to compare the two.
Surface similarities are nothing new. I saw people asking if Quicksilver was supposed to be the Flash when the AOU TV spots were out.
I've always wondered if DC tried to do those kinds of moves to say they got there first. Like they put Arrow out around the time Hawkeye was getting spotlight in the Avengers, Flash when Quicksilver was announced for AOU, Vixen before Black Panther, Constantine before Doctor Strange, Atom before Ant-man, and now Supergirl before Captain Marvel. Coincidence much or was it planned?
