Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 3

I wonder if we have to wait til the Solo Movie to get our First Look because still no words if she is in IW or Avengers 4 !?

I highly doubt Captain Marvel is in Infinity War. Carol Danvers is a possibility, but I wouldn't assume it. Avengers 4 is now filming after Infinity War ends, so we're more likely to get our first look in her own movie than Avengers 4 anyway.

I think it would be a mistake to not at least have a "meet and greet" with Carol before her solo movie. I'd actually prefer that we see her origin in Infinity War and deal with the aftermath in Captain Marvel. T'Challa and Peter's intros were great so I don't know why they wouldn't give Ms. Danvers the same treatment.

Well, we got Ant Man's origin in his own film instead of first meeting him in Civil War, even when he was more of a cameo there, so it can still work instead of first putting the character in an ensemble film.

That's true, but because we started with a legacy character Reed skipped the creation of the suit and went to the training montage fairly early on. Carol doesn't have the most compelling origin story so I'd prefer we start with her fully powered up then wait an hour into her film.

Nothing is for sure, but IW is going to have a HUUUUUUGE audience and as the CM solo movie follows on it's heels, it would be a mistake to not have a very cool Carol Danvers that we like and relate to in IW. I think Marvel desperately wants CM to knock people's socks off. I get the feeling they are taking a lot of care to fine tune CM and to just drop a relatively unknown character in their solo movie when they have a perfect setup vehicle just doesn't pass the smell test to me.

Hey, where's Mike? I haven't seen any cute pics of Brie recently. :woot:

I'd set it up this way. Carol is an awesome pilot and a totally kickass character in IW. She decides to sacrifice herself and everyone thinks she's dead. We, however, get a post credits trailer where she's alive......on a Kree ship??? In CM, we get a very brief recap (I think it would be cool to start off CM with Carol in her jet with stuff exploding all around her) and Kaboom.....we've got Captain Marvel.

That's the one! I'd borrow a bit from the comic book Phoenix origin where Carol either flies off with the Psyche Magnetron to save the Avengers or sends it right into Thanos himself. Like on A:EMH she wakes up floating in a post credit scene.

In IW, I'd have her heroics seen from the perspective of everyone else. In CM, I'd probably replay everything that happened at the very beginning of the movie; except that it's all from "her" perspective.

I think it would be awesome to start the movie out in a total dogfight, rollercoaster ride with all hell breaking loose. No intros or conversations; just complete and utter chaos. After she crashes or whatever, cut to black and utter silence for a few seconds and then we see her.

Um, guys, the movie was already confirmed to be an origin story. The firsr time we see CM will be in her own movie. Carol Danvers is not out of question, though.

Did anything I wrote preclude that? I didn't say anything about A) seeing CM before the standalone or B) having her origin story in IW.

My apologies. I wasn't responding to you. I was putting your post in because it was the reason I said "When are we going to get a director?". I was joking with you. Sorry I got the quotes mixed up and appeared to be responding to you. I wasn't. We good?

Been away for a while. We good Dude!:woot:

I'll toss in here and say that I hope we get to see Pilot Carol Danvers in IW. They can still do an origin story for Captain Marvel in the movie, but seeing the woman who will become CM before hand would be pretty cool.

And I like Captain America's suit, so if they do something similar I would be happy. Or even if they just kept it like the newer comic version, including the sash. And no Mohawk. Please, thank you, no Mohawk.

It took me a really long time,” Larson told the magazine. “I had to sit with myself, think about my life and what I want out of it. Ultimately, I couldn’t deny the fact that this movie is everything I care about, everything that’s progressive and important and meaningful, and a symbol I wished I would’ve had growing up. I really, really feel like it’s worth it if it can bring understanding and confidence to young women—I’ll do it.”

She continued, “They’ve been very open to hearing my thoughts and my take on it, which has been great. I think that’s why they cast me: I have a lot of similarities to this character… and they want me to bring that into the movie.”

“Captain Marvel has powers that far surpass many of her heroic counterparts, and in order to bring this superhero to life and make her relatable and disarming we needed an actress with both range and humanity,” Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and producer of all its films, explained in the article. “So, like the best of our leading characters who have brought the Marvel Universe to life, Brie possesses the depth and energy that can fuse firepower, guts, and a great story.

I still say that Marvel is going it wrong...

They should have made a trilogy(?) about Mar-Vell, introduce Carol Danvers in the 2nd or 3rd as Ms. Marvel...and go from there.

Eh, turning her back into a distaff sidekick, when she's spent almost the entirety of her existence literally struggling in character to escape that shadow? Doesn't do the character justice.

Agreed. I have zero interest in seeing a Captain Marvel movie solely about Mar-Vell.

Loved the pic that was chosen with the director announcement.

They better be working out how to do that shot in the movie right now.

Unrelated but I thought this Captain Marvel statue was very cool.

Yes, I do believe long hair + the new costume is her best ever look. Hope the movie sticks to something like that.

Yeah. The look fits Brie also. Someone like Theron could get away with just about anything, but I like the long hair no matter who it is.

I'll third that. If they had decided to make this about Mar-Vell, I 100% would've passed on it.

And that statue above is gorgeous. All of 'em are, actually.

Yes I'll take them all thanks. And they can base CM's look on that if they want, thanks.

I can also imagine the reaction to "Good news! We're still not making any movies about female superheroes, but like 6 years down the line, Part 3 of this series will have a female protagonist!"
