Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 3

Which of the MCU love interests so far have been worthwhile? A fair few have been almost not bothering with or at best not too memorable. I don't think they should be compulsory.

And on the age issue rather than the age of the actors it'd be more about the ages they are playing that would be relevant to me. I can see CM not being that young if she is going to have gained sufficient military rank.

Plus her having a love interest would add more layers to Carol's character it would show her vulnerability

Dang, I'll have to see the cut scenes on the disc when I get it. He looks hilarious already.
Okay but again, all his scenes in GotG 2 have been cut so it doesn't really matter. If they want to bring him back as the real Wonder Man they easily can.

There's no cut scenes. That was just him goofing around on the set. His "part" as Simon Williams was never anything more than being photographed for some fake movie posters.

Don't think she should have a love interest (at least in the first film). Think it would be more interesting if she had purposefully put romantic relationships aside to focus on her military career.

Does Gamora count?
Nah, GotG is an ensemble of heroes. She's more than a love interest. I'm actually a little annoyed Gunn made Quill/Gamora love interests at all, tbh. It's totally unnecessary.

She's more than a love interest, yes, but she's also a love interest (or, if you want, Quill is a love interest for her).

I think Quill and Gomorrah work great as a couple. Whenever they finally get there...

As a first movie though, I would rather they hold off any love interest until a second film or follow-on crossover with the Avengers or Dr. Strange. Let the character get defined and settled before adding that into the mix.:cwink: I want to see that, but I don't have to see it right away.

Another one of those so-called leaks on 4chan. A production assistant is dropping some info on the movie. Basically, it's Carol vs Aim, Doomsday Man and Yon Rog. Aim has evolved into the super science death cult crom the comics. Carol is in Sword, so it's likely bs, but who knows?

You're right, it's almost certainly BS, but I must admit I enjoyed the description of Carol's characterization as "a mixture of Tony Stark and Ripley from Aliens."

Less thrilled with [blackout]Abigail Brand dying and no Jessica Drew[/blackout]. If, on the off-chance it's NOT BS though, it doesn't sound too bad.

It makes sense that post-Infinity War they'd create SWORD. It would also make a decent TV show after Agents of SHIELD is gone.

Yeah, the SWORD part actually doesn't sound unlikely at all to me. Plenty of us speculated they might have Carol working for them - the biggest question mark being that Abigail Brand and SWORD were created in X-Men comics, so the rights might belong to Fox.

Which is why I thought Marvel re-vamped Alpha Flight to basically be the same thing in the recent comics, to prep the movies for that.

As someone else said in one of the first replies, it's extremely unlikely a PA would be allowed to read a script for a movie like this, particularly for a studio as secretive as Marvel.

"Changing her origin" doesn't automatically mean getting rid of Mar-Vell. It could just mean they'll make her more of an active participant in the whole thing (nixing the "kidnapped" angle, for example).

I definitely would like her to be her own person standing on her own and having Mar-Vell around might cause problems. Just imagine another Kryptonian hanging around the farm and teaching Clare Kent the ropes. Then again, Captain Marvel might be a space cop movie and have nothing to do with Earth or what we expect. I just want this character done right, because I'm still shaking my head over what they did to her in Civil War.

Meredith Quill had an affair with a planet... his son has an affair with a city. The Quills sure are into some very weird kinks, aren't they.

Oh. Lame. Where exactly were those posters supposed to appear in the movie? The scenes where [BLACKOUT]the black goo is taking over the Earth[/BLACKOUT]? That would've been kinda out of place.

Yeah no more Tony Stark clones please.

Why does she have to have a lost interest?

She doesn't have to, but basically every other character with their own franchise does. It would be out of the ordinary for Marvel to break their formula.

I grew up with Mar-vell and he was one of my favourite heroes so I've gotta be honest here - every time I read a suggestion of the omission of Mar-Vell, or [even worse] an endorsement of that omission, well, it makes me cry.

I said before that Mar-Vell could still serve multiple roles in a Carol movie without diminishing her characters story or taking the spotlight from her.

Every character needs supporting characters.

Mar-Vell could serve as a love interest or a exposition character (someone to explain to the audience who, what, where and why like Mr Gibbs or Barbossa in the POTC franchise). His death could be a catalyst to advance the plot or provide some change in Carol's heroes journey like uncle Ben in spider-Man or Obi Wan in Star Wars.

There are all sorts of narrative roles a character like Mar-Vell could supply if the writers wished.

Personally I think Mar-Vell well have some sort of presence in the movie. Marvel Studios is built off of being reasonably faithful to the source material. Even when they do legacy hero movies like Ant-Man or Guardians Of The Galaxy, they still find ways to include the original heroes in supporting roles (Hank Pym & Yondu for example).

Very good points. The setting of the movie has my curiosity. Will Carol already have her powers or get them during the movie? Will it even start on Earth?

If it's in space, will Carol be something like a super powered Space Cop and Mar Vell as her partner? They could be chasing after Thanos as he gathers the Infinity Stones. They find Earth is his next target and they hurried to get there first to stop him.

Dr.Strange and didn't really have a love interest. Strange and Christine were involved in the past and realized it didn't work out. They were just friends in the movie and it worked. Now if they have Clea in the sequel that will be his likely love interest.

Cap 2 also didn't give Steve an actual love interest.
