Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 3

Christine was very much the love interest in Doctor Strange. The last thing he says to her, with her face in his hands, was "I don't want you to go". The relationship was not just about being friends, not to him anyway.

Yeah, Christine was definitely a love interest. I just hope that teamup films don't keep feeling the need to address "where are they now?" like AoU and Civil War. Otherwise, besides Jane Foster, they've all been fine or better.

I thought Strange and Christine had love for each other. They just know they are not good for a romantic relationship. That is why I don't feel like she is the love interest.

Dr.Strange and didn't really have a love interest. Strange and Christine were involved in the past and realized it didn't work out. They were just friends in the movie and it worked. Now if they have Clea in the sequel that will be his likely love interest.

Cap 2 also didn't give Steve an actual love interest.

Eh, I agree on Cap 2, but Dr Strange. . . it was a nonstandard romance subplot, but I'd say it still counts. It was still a fairly major plot that Strange and Palmer were lovers, and there were still some fairly standard "romance subplot" events later in the movie ( when Strange showed back up in her life as weirdness ). It just played them in reverse, with the relationship in the beginning, then the breakup, then the romantic tension.

It begs the question of who Marvel should cast as Mar-Vell

Yeah, the SWORD part actually doesn't sound unlikely at all to me. Plenty of us speculated they might have Carol working for them - the biggest question mark being that Abigail Brand and SWORD were created in X-Men comics, so the rights might belong to Fox.

Which is why I thought Marvel re-vamped Alpha Flight to basically be the same thing in the recent comics, to prep the movies for that.

Well, Marvel isn't exactly obligated to tell everyone when they get rights back to certain characters. Fans thought Marvel didn't have rights to Namor before Joe Quesada revealed Marvel did in fact have the rights to the character. When did that happen?

Doctor Strange had no love interest. SD said so.

A general comparison is not the same thing as a clone.
Certain posters can't see that. And stay off Brie's twitter if you know what's good for you. She's smarter then all of us 'reglaaar folk.

Another casting choice that I would go with as Mar-Vell would be Matthew McConaughey but for the villain who should the villain be? It should be Moonstone but as for who should play Moonstone it should be Natalie Dormer

It would be awesome if in Captain Marvel towards the end of the movie (last 5 minutes etc) Carol is stuck on some alien planet and she's trying to get back to Earth.

IN SOME RANDOM SPACEPORT
(she gets this reply over and over)
Carol: "Can you take me to Earth?"
Ship Captain:"Never heard of it. Do you know the coordinates?"
Carol: "Uh... No."
SC: "Can't help you then."

SHE SITS DEJECTED AT A BAR
(staring at her drink, she faintly hears the music to Redbone - Come and get your love.)
Carol: That's Earth music!!!
(She turns and seated at a table behind her is the Guardians of the Galaxy)

Then all of them show up in time for Avengers Infinity War Part 2.

Captain Marvel post-credit scene couldn't have wrote it any better myself it is like great minds think alike

That would be a great scene!

Thank you. :yay:

Another one I imagine happening in Avengers Infinity War Part 1, is Thanos (who already has a few of the Infinity stones by now) shows up on Earth to get the two stones that are here. I'm also starting to agree with the rumors that Carol Danver's will have no powers at this point.

The military is called up and Colonel Carol Danver's makes a mistake in trying to attack the powerhouse that is Thanos in a mere and lowly F22. Thanos decides to open a portal right in front of her plane and he zaps her to a distance planet. There and trapped, her transformation to Captain Marvel will begin.

Perfect set up again I like how you think

Derrickson is crazy!

Is it supposed to be because they don't kiss on the lips that it's not a love interest? Those two drive each other to tears, there's unanswered e-mails, a beloved watch...Strange's feelings for Christine drive more a few moments of the plot. If that's not a love interest, I don't know what it!

You know better than the freaking director? Some of you are really funny. Just beccause an idea is stuck in your head you are gonna fixate with it even if the person that made the movie answers honestly.

Christine was not a prize to be claimed or a trophy to reward the hero, tropes that are essential to movie love interests. She was not a love interest. That's like saying that Mason was a love interest in Strange Days. That's does her disservice.

Love interest (noun) - An actor whose main role in a story or film is that of a lover of a central character.

I don't know when this became an "offensive" term but Strange is the central character and he loves Christine. That's her main role in the film. So yeah, unfortunately, even the director is wrong if he thinks Christine is not a love interest...and, if Christine is not a love interest, than neither is Peggy or Jane or Pepper or any of those type of characters we've seen so far.

No, I can assure you she's not.

The term is widely associated with female characters that need to be saved and calimed by the end of the film by the main hero. Unfortunately this is the general feeling that most movies have passed on the general consciousness.

Christine wasn't saved, she actually saved the hero.

No, I can assure you she's not.

You have some trouble letting that go, do you? You are letting politics get in your head and twist ideas about people and artists. Let her believe what she wants and stop being so adamant about whether she is wrong or not. It doesn;t flatter you.

Again, all I said is that she has misguided views on politics and comes to the wrong conclusions on things. Some people took offense to the notion that Brie Larson could ever be wrong about anything. Maybe I should have rephrased what I said. But, just because she's a successful actress, that doesn't mean she's smarter or even better than "us regular folk." There have been incredibly talented and successful people say all kinds of stupid things. Brie is no exception.

*enters thread*

*sees everyone still discussing politics*

You have a really sad idea of what a love interest is. if she's not the love interest, the writers and directors really messed up.
