It would be especially since he won't be in the Avenger movies and would not have much of an impact.​

Fury knows Danvers, brought the Avengers together, and likely appears in one of IW/A4.​

​

Rhodes still alive likely appears in both movies. If he is healed up he will be an active fighter fighting alongside her again.​

​

Peggy was the leader of Shield back then so she should appear.​

The 1st three are major players who would have obvious connections to Carol's story. We know Fury's already in. Peggy would've been his boss at the time. And Rhodey is of course Air Force and possible friend/love interest from the comics. Coulson is neither a major player, nor someone with an obvious connection. He's just a random dude who could've been around.

then maybe Carol's film will reflect that in some way? Also... Maybe that's how she does end up in today's world?

None off the top of my head [BLACKOUT]but there seems to be speculation that there is some kind of time travel stuff happening if IW. Thor's hammer is back,
Tony has the ARC reactor back in his chest. This is all BTS stuff that indicates some kind of time travel. So maybe we see in the background of Carol's film some of this reflected and then at the end it comes to the forefront and she's brought to the future perhaps by some of the Avengers team or Guardians. What if in the past 20 years she hasn't been anywhere... because she is dead. She heroically dies in the Skrull/Kree battle and it's [BLACKOUT]Thanos who mistakenly resurrects her with the Stones (only to regret it later when she kicks his ass because she's more powerful than him)[/BLACKOUT].

There you go, problem solved. That would also explain why Carol hasn't aged until now (Brie Larson is not a Kree hybrid, she can't play a woman in her late 20s for the next decade).

EDIT: Okay, that last part is a bit silly considering Hemsworth has been playing the practically immortal Thor for years... but still. My solution would solve the issue.

With Ant-Man and The Wasp now in the can, Marvel Studios has begun work on Captain Marvel. The film’s production schedule and location have already undergone a few changes, including a move from Atlanta to Los Angeles, but the creative team working on the film recently convened for film prep and we expect the casting process has either already begun or will shortly because it seems there has been another shift in the production timeline.

We recently heard from a source that the studio is looking to fill out key roles of the cast sooner rather than later because they plan to film for one week, late in January. While we don’t know which roles or what they will be shooting during that week, we have to wonder if the accelerated timeline is necessary to allow some members of the cast of Avengers 4 to join the shoot.

Additionally, while we’ve heard both January and February start dates for the film, we are told that full-time production on the film is now expected to begin in early March and conclude sometime in mid-July.

With the team coming together and this news reaching us, we would be shocked if we didn’t start to see some more casting come together pretty quickly, especially with the holidays coming up. Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters March 8, 2019!

Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel,” sources tell Variety.

Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain with “Half Nelson” helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directing. Kevin Feige is producing.

Marvel had no comment.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent script with “Inside Out” scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman penning previous drafts, which follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight.

Law’s exact role is currently unknown, other than the character being a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Feige announced that the superhero film will be set in the ’90s, before the Avengers ever thought of assembling, and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury.
