I saw it again today(because it was international women's day hehe) and I enjoyed it a bit more a second time, I did enjoy it a lot the first time as well. Despite it's problems(and there a few) I still think it's a fun and entertaining film.

I do have a feeling that this movie probably would have been better received if it came out before the likes of Guardians and Ragnarok. Like many people have said, it's quite generic and dosen't do anything special, but I don't think it has to, it's just a very entertaining and fun movie, it's pretty much like most MCU solo films. Maybe people are getting a bit tired of the old Marvel formula and that's understandable.

I liked the beginning. Brie is going to be a great CM for many years.

There were several reviews I read that said they're plain tired of the MCU (and CBMs in general) and how they've sucked the life out of the entertainment industry, be it for the endless interconnected movies other studios have tried and/or taking up so much of the box office attention.

Bland in the very first trailer maybe. No way in the film or later marketing. CM is a sassy character and that part is important to me, and Brie delivered on what I was looking for on that front.

I hope we see a lot more of both races over time and that their presence in the MCU builds to some of the great comic stories.

Speaking generally, I thought it was decent overall. Plenty entertaining with a lot of fun/funny moments between Fury and Carol, and overall good action sequences. (Some of the shots were to darkly lit and lacked the lighting contrast provided by the gunshots or energy blasts, or were too jump-cutty though.) I actually really liked the Skrulls, both from a character/creature design aspect (hey, sentient humanoid aliens that are at least more than just humans with face paint!) as well as their role in the story, though that latter point definitely leaves me with a couple of large questions about the MCU's next overarching phase post-Endgame.

Maybe because I'm just not in the target demographic, but this didn't feel much like an event film to me as much as it was being hyped as such. And as much as Captain Marvel herself is slated to be a big player in the MCU going forward, I don't think it's much of a spoiler to say that I actually can't say I felt too much about or for her, certainly not to the extent I do for T'Challa or Peter Parker. In terms of what the uninitiated audience knows about her (speaking from that same sort of place), I feel like she came out of this almost as much of a blank slate as she was going in, or at least I didn't learn all that much about her. I suppose you could argue that it leaves plenty of room for her character to actually be fleshed out over the next 5-7 films Brie Larson's apparently signed on for, but insofar as this movie itself is concerned, this felt more like a light introduction to her and her abilities just so people aren't like "Who's she???" in Endgame. (And the mid-credits scene reinforces that feeling.)

So yeah, I guess I'm mildly underwhelmed. It's far from bad, but it's not the strongest of MCU films in my opinion. I do want to see where they take her though.

In my opinion, T’Challa was and is way more of a blank slate than Carol.

Yeah, I mean, they’re both good: I just always find T’Challa a bit too soft spoken and quiet. I’m more fond of Okoye and Shuri. But, gotta have that one hero who’s very calm and thoughtful: I like that about T’Challa, but not all the time.

Fair enough. T'Challa's not my favorite MCU character (that honor goes to Shuri) but I'm more of the soft spoken type myself, so I guess I could empathize with T'Challa more in that respect. I do think he and Carol's dynamic will be an interesting one to watch.

It's not that I couldn't feel for her or her situation, I just don't think there was a single defining moment from her that landed for me; more like an accumulation of smaller moments throughout the movie. And hey, maybe that's the intent of the filmmakers since a big part of her story is piecing together her identity based on fractured memories and that just didn't work for me as much as I thought it would/could, but perhaps I'll feel differently after the inevitable rewatch, whenever that is.

I am really looking forward to seeing how she works together with him in the new Avengers lineup. Strange too.

Well it turns out I was very wrong. Since the teaser was released I've thought this looked bland and Brie's performance was wooden. With the RT being in the low 80s and Stuckman saying what I expected and giving it a C I went into this expecting a bland film and a wooden performance from Brie. But I loved this film. I've got some minor problem with it such as the editing and shooting of the action scenes, and Coulson was wasted, but that's about the only issues I had with the film. This is definitely my favorite origin story in the MCU. It was so much fun.

I adored what they did with them and actually nearly teared up when the skrull children and refugees revealed themselves. Prior to that I really wanted to believe Talos was telling the truth. I liked the guy, and liked what Mendelsohn was doing, but I was afraid Talos was lying, and that itd turn out he was using Carol to get to the power source just so he could continue the war and win it. So it was a huge relief when it was revealed that he really was a loving father and was just trying to save his people and really wanted to ally with Carol. I'd love to see Talos and his family and his people again.

In terms of my own enjoyment this film gets a 9/10 from me.

Saw the movie I actually loved it

I've been waiting for today for what seems like a lifetime. I kept getting pissed off when they pushed it back. Now? I don't mind so much. LOL. I'm taking tomorrow off and going to the 10am (ish) show at the local Cinemark XD. Pretty reasonable too because it's an early bird showing. Got my seats all picked out. Then it's burgers and beer at Islands....ooooohhh.....maybe Mexican food. I'm considering going to see it tonight. I laugh in the face of delay of gratification. I am so stoked.....I'm not watching or reading anything from here out; which makes no sense whatsoever because I never believe people who drop spoilers anyway. I've always figured they were either lying or too stupid to believe. Lots of faith in humanity in this corner.

Caught the 10:10am show and really, really liked it. I can see why it was pushed back and there was a twist that caught me by surprise. I like the fact the scenes weren't always linear in time. A really nice job of writing IMHO. Brie is an absolute charmer. Wooden? GTFOuttaHere. Best origin story since Iron Man.

Also, I decided on Mexican food, but who in the frell serves duck tacos and cranberry salsa? Jesus, only in West LA.....

Duck tacos? I'm a big fan of duck (more so Chinese roasted duck) so it might be an interesting thing to try.
