Interesting idea. I can't speak to the casting except that it seems a bit large. Not so much a Captain Marvel movie as a "throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens." Which could still work, I guess?
At any rate, if you have Kree experimenting with humans, you could borrow aspects of Zarek's splinter group, the
Lunatic Legion (
or at least one such group to have that name -- I think there may have been several). Desiring racial purity for the Blue Krees (
that part could be ditched), the group set up a base of operations on the Blue Area of the Moon and, most notably, genetically modified one Robert Hunter into one of their agents -- Nitro. As long as you're throwing in characters, you might as well include him.
So perhaps Nitro is one of the early (unstable) prototypes for the procedure that later gives Carol powers. Like an alien version of extremis, I guess.
EDIT:
I'll also reiterate that, as long as Kree are the baddies, using Ronan as a character in some capacity would also totally make sense. His character will already have been introduced in GotG, and he's more-or-less the only known named Kree in the MCU thus far (not sure if Korath is still supposed to be Kree, given the trailer). As long as you've got the character already designed and cast (presumably with a multi-picture contract), there's no reason not to use him in this. Comics-wise, Ronan has collaborated with Zarek in the past to overthrow the SI, helped to instigate the Kree-Skrull War on Earth, and was also sent to investigate how the Kree Sentry was disabled. He's clashed several times with both Mar-Vell and Danvers.
EDIT 2:
Or, when you said "Robert Walker" above, did you mean "Robert Hunter"? A quick google didn't reveal a "Robert Walker" except as a penciler.
