:oldrazz:

Well thank you VERY MUCH! Now I want something I can never have!

One can hope, haha. However, further research tells me he will probably die soon because he's been cast as the lead in a Taken TV series (who asked for that?!), so either way, he's not an option.

EDIT: Mask&Cape beat me to the Taken news. And yes! Clive Standen's the guy I was talking about.
Oh, I know who you are talking about now, I am looking forward that Taken show .

Hopefully, we will not have to wait too long to find out who the next Superman will be.

Why is everybody calling for Tom Welling when all that would do is confuse people...

I can see it now, 'Oh, Supergirl takes place in the Smallville-verse? Did Smallville Clark crossover to Supergirl's Earth?'

Why even evoke that kind of confusion?

Another popular TV actor or a new face please.

^ And he's played Supes on a Japanese TV commercial too. :p

^Well he certainly looks the part. He honestly looks like he could be Cavill's brother.

Would be very exciting if they brought Welling back

That wouldn't be necessary. As long as the actor fits the personality of Superman, then being the same height and build, even slightly less than Brooks would not make it a problem. Superman doesn't need to look like he is the biggest guy in the room.:cwink:

Nor would it make sense for them not to be on screen together considering how bad this version of Olsen has it for the House of El. He just goes where they go. Even when he tried to escape Superman's shadow and make his own way he just went to National City and Cat Co. because Clark told him to. The guy simply has nothing interesting about him.

You say this, but then you also say this in the other thread:

I was misunderstood on this point. Saying they don't have to cast an actor taller or bigger does not mean the scold or should cast a guy who 5'5" and built like twig :cwink: Same height and build, even slightly less, is okay as long as the actor has that Superman "gravitas". What I meant was he doesn't have to 6'7" and built like a house. :cwink:

But where do you draw the line? Because you say this later on in this thread:

That makes sense.:cwink:

Though I don't think being an award winner would make Boomer [sic] be beyond the role.

And when will Supergirl being filming? When will they have to have Superman cast by?

And this suggests you'd be quite happy with Matt Bomer in the role of Superman, as long as he fits his personality. But Bomer isn't just "slightly" smaller than Brooks. He would look significantly smaller both in height and size. Next to Brooks he'd still look tiny.

I've already said in the other thread that even if someone is shorter but big built, they'll still look proportionally smaller. This was the case with Henry Cavill next to Ben Affleck. It's not like Cavill is a small guy, but Affleck's overall size just makes him proportionally larger and therefore makes Cavill look like he's been scaled down.

Bomer is 5'9", maybe 5'10" at most next to a 6'2" Brooks. Brooks's bone structure and frame are simply going to be much bigger. All the camera tricks in the world aren't going to change the fact that Bomer would look much smaller than Brooks and he will appear like he's built like a twig.

And it's really quite sad if they have to now resort to camera angles to make Superman look bigger than Jimmy Olsen of all people!

Just no to Tom Welling. Smallville is over. Let's move on and cast someone new. Have Tom cameo as an entirely different character as a call back like Dean Cain or Christopher Reeve did on Smallville as a bit of fun, but don't make him Superman.

Well he's 6ft, which is better than Bomer, but still slightly shorter than Brooks.

^Well he certainly looks the part. He honestly looks like he could be Cavill's brother.

I'd go even further and say that sometimes he looks like Cavill himself. He could potentially take over the part in the movies if Cavill didn't want to play anymore (or couldn't) and they wanted someone who looked very similar.

His hair is better than Cavill's too. :o

But listening to his demo reel, he sounds like he has a bit of a foreign accent. And he doesn't look all that big at all. Certainly smaller than Brooks and definitely much smaller than Cavill.

EDIT: I don't think he'd be that great for the part at all. Other than facially looking like Cavill at times, he doesn't appear to be a big man and he's a bit too French.

Oh, I see you're assuming everyone viewing is a total moron. Give people a little credit. There's people who look exactly like every character on arrow and flash in another earth. The guy who played flash in 1990 is now playing a version of the Flash in that show (and they even showed him IN costume from that previous show in this one). I think people would be fine.

I actually prefer this idea. I would love to see Welling, but it would be good to see him in another role. Have Welling play a Jor-El hologram or something. Would be nice to have a connection to the house of El

if we're willing to see Wellings as a new character

how about a different Smallville actor as Superman?

Surprised to see so much support for Welling. I liked him fine, but there is absolutely no way he could be or should be Superman on this show.

Tom Welling would be my choice. People are smart enough to know he is not thd same as Smallville. But, it would be a good way of paying back the Smallville fans who felt cheated that he was never seen as Supes.

yeah, i still say he should have been cast as lex luthor - he could come off as so charming, then behind doors, a raging beast.

Personally, i wouldn't mind Joe Magnoliolioliolioliolioliolio

Joe Manganiello ? Nope, lol.

I'm so glad this is happening, i had no interesting in this show with the way supes was being portrayed.

I'm hoping for Welling but i would guess that would depend on whether his CBS show gets picked up. Seems like they have been waiting for a long time on a decision. Also hes technically a different Earth superman so it would work out fine and could easily explain away all the different events that took place.

My other choice is Matt Bomer since hes showed interest in the role previously and has the look of supes.

Routh makes no sense so not sure why people mention him. Wouldnt make sense for Atom and Supes to be played by one actor considering they are going with the fact that everyone's earth counterpart looks the same and hes portraying them at the same time on two different shows.

I was thinking more like Sam Witwer, Alan Ritchson or even Justin Hartley

Perhaps things will change when someone is cast and I know how he will be used, but right now I am not excited about this.
