Chapter 4: The Kindness of Strangers Discussion 10/15/2007

but you are forgetting one important point: Molly walks out of her bedroom and tells Parkman that she'll find his father. when she does....it's the nightmare man. Parkman wasn't asking her to find the nightmare man; he was asking her to find his father. did you not see the end of the episode?

Eh. Guess not. But hey, that's what they have the internet for.:yay:

Matt did bring up a good point though. What if the Nightmare Man just happened to be where Parkman's father was? What if he knew what they were doing and killed him or he just happened to be next on the list?

HRG is going to Odessa, Ukraine. not Texas like alot of people think.

Something was going on. They focused on him touching her back for a while...
Yea I just wanted to make sure I wasnt the only one thinking that. I found it odd cause he knows his powers work on just electronics, but it was cool seeing him trying to use it on people too.

i dont just want a cap of the photo of the 12, but i woudn't mind a cap of when molly's eyes had the "Godsend" symbol in them. that was pretty cool

The same way Jean Grey suddenly discovered she could read minds. Or the way Magneto discovered he could control magnetic fields. You should catch up on the first season. The only real explanation for the powers is evolution.

Well, I have seen the first season. I just meant I bought it on DVD a couple of weeks ago and went through it to catch up. So I haven't been able ponder the many facets of the series. I think my question is open to interpretation or just hasn't been answered by the series yet.

Savage summed up my thoughts for me pretty well. I think Matt's father is a red herring and when they find him, he may very well be dead at the hands of the Nightmare Man.
Savage is way off. Matt's father isn't a red herring. the nightmare man doesn't just appear whenever Molly thinks about other people. look, she said his father is the nightmare man, she looked for his father, and it was the nightmare man. the only way it could be more obvious is if there were flashing neon signs.

Well it is just a tv show so they could pull a stupid switch up. After all, last season they had Syler catch Hiro's sword even though Hiro had frozen time.

Hiro had let up in his concentration; he wasn't ready to be the hero. so therefore time wasn't frozen at that point. a couple of the writers (maybe even Kring) explained it (and again, it goes back to the ability being connected to the emotional state of the hero). Hiro then went on to train with his father so that he would be ready, so that he would be the hero.

OR she looked for his father and the Nightmare man happened to be there. :cwink: The man IS killing the other 11 members after all so I wouldn't be suprised if he was practically waiting for Molly to try something.

But hey, I'll watch it again to make sure.

well, one has to wonder why Papa Petrelli was looking off to the side. unless the only reason they did that is so we wouldn't see him clearly.:o

its either that or they haven't cast him yet and don't want to do what they did last season. remember how sylar looked like a middle aged man until quinto was cast? i have a feeling they'll bring in papa petrelli in a flashback or something and maybe have a big name play him.

Shatner will be papa petrelli! just kidding

Or its meant to be obvious which would make it a red herring which this show has done numerous times.

She looked at a picture of 12 people. She didn't look specifically at Matt's father, nor did she specifically say he is the Nightmare Man. In fact, her wording seems written to intentionally leave the question open and mislead the audience.

Ontop of that, we know the Nightmare Man is attacking the original 12, so it is not hard to believe Matt's father is currently a victim.

And that's how Sylar will control her (Maya) until he is ready to take her power...because she is naive and gullable. Plus different sources have been hinting that Maya is going to have to learn to control her power because her brother will not be around. Meaning Sylar is going to kill him and Maya will have no one else to lean on but him.

again, Matt asked her to find his father. she freaked. she came out of her room and said, "ok, i'll help you find him."

put two and two together.

Yeah. That's how red herrings work. Matt asked her to find his father. She freaks cause the Nightmare Man was in the picture. She comes out and says she'll help him find his dad. She did find him but something was waiting for her and either it really was his dad or his dad is pretty much dead right now.

I think the reflection that Nathan sees in the mirror his actual reflection and some kind of way he is masking it. When Nathan flew Peter up into the atmosphere on last season's finale, he was burned in the explosion causing him to drop Peter who he thinks is dead. Now he has guilt over causing his brother's "death".

Anyone else think that the Hispanic man in the bottom right corner of the picture is related to Maya and Alejandro? Father, perhaps?

I think Monica's ability is to be able to expertly execute something she sees one time....something that would take a normal person weeks, months or years to perfect. Like becoming an expert tennis player after only watching a few volleys or performing a complex surgical procedure like a doctor that has years and years of experience.

Joe and Aron, thanks for joining us once again for a new season's worth of BEHIND THE ECLIPSE. Welcome back! We start off Season 2 with the very first question sent in. Son Gohan asks quite simply, "Zombie Nathan was cool. What's up with that exactly?" What's up with that is right — will you guys be exploring more of that quick reveal of the gruesomely scarred Nathan soon?

We'll absolutely be exploring more of Nathan's “monster face” than that quick reveal. That was just a tease. Soon you'll see more, and soon after that, as we like to do on the show, you'll know everything.

Oh, and for everyone saying there's only 11 people in the photograph, I direct you to this:

Link cause the picture's pretty big.

Okay, so we can't count :oldrazz:. But it's still a pretty good bet that the "hooded killer" took the photo and that it may be Kensei. After all, we know that Kensei has a connection to the twelve and is probably their founder considering how they've adopted his "godsend" symbol.

It's pretty clear from the episode that Molly believes Matt's father is the "nightmare man" when Matt points his father out to her. The dialogue even indicates this (paraphrasing):

MOLLY: Don't make me find him [Matt's father].
MATT: Why? What's wrong.
MOLLY: He [Matt's father] is the man in my dreams. He [Matt's father] is "Nightmare Man."

It's also clear that when he decides to agree to help Matt find his dad, part of the fear is that, since she indicated that he's the "Nightmare Man" that if she does locate him, he'll see her, which is why Matt and Mohindir tell her that as soon as she locates him, she's to get out as fast as she can. As far as Molly, Matt, and Mohindir--not to mention the audience--are concerned, Matt's dad is the "Nightmare Man." Whether or not he's doing this on his own, or whether someone else is pulling his strings remains to be seen.

but in the canadian preview matss on the floor saying "i guess we know why molly calls him the nightmare man" i'll find a link

The reason HRG doesn't want Claire to date a boy is because clearly in the picture of him laying on the floor dead you can see claire kissing a dude in the background. I thought this was obvious but maybe it being drawn by Tim Sale and looking a little more twisted, it could look like a random couple? Also, the Nightmare Man is definately Parkman's father. I don't have any concrete theories on Nathan's Toxic Avenger reflection other than maybe he's having a split personality crisis like Nikki had. Maybe in Nathan's case though, he's in such denial over his own abilities he's mentally transferring them to the burnt monster personality. Again, not a very concrete theory and full of holes but it's all I got at the moment.
