the annoying guys that ride the scoprions in the first one are not in it right?

Nope. No one is really annoying in this. All the characters are pretty much enjoyable and there's even some good comedy relief! Toby Kebbell and Bill Nigh do a great job in that department.

I knew Nigh wouldn't disappoint. I guess I'd better...(0:07 of vid)

It's a fact that critics don't enjoy most of the mindless action flicks that come out every year and are very popular with the audience.

Neither do I. I like me some good action flicks like the Star Wars, Nolan's Batman, Inception, Ghost Protocol, T2, Indy, Kick-Ass, Thor, Iron-Man, Captain America, Aliens, The Mummy, etc.

Tell that to Fast Five

You mean a good film got good reviews even though it had action?!?! :wow:

I liked the guy made out of bark or whatever it was.

Too bad they did jack poop with him. He just stood there instead of being awesome and iconic.

Funny you mention The Mummy, because that movie kept coming to mind while I was watching Wrath. I'd say they're pretty comparable. Though maybe a bit more comparable to The Mummy 2, without the incredibly disappointing ending fight scene. I kept waiting for Wrath to take a turn into total crap, and it never happened. and the Final action scene is total awesome eye candy.

Wrath is really way better than it has any right to be. The script isn't amazing, but it's not horrible, and the action is great. Seriously, if you like action movies, checking out Wrath is a good call...especially (and incredibly surprisingly) in 3D.

I can never forgive The Mummy Return's poor use of CGI, including the now iconic Playstation 2 Scorpion King.

Not a fan of the Mummy Returns. It took everything the first film did right and did it wrong in the most annoying way possible. A retread that is no fun at all.

Funny story about The Mummy Returns. It was the first time I had seen Rachel Weisz post nose-job. I thought they had cast another, hotter actress in the part. :woot:

I still remember my feelings on that to this day...

not only poor use of CGI...but the fact that EVERYONE wanted The Rock in human form to come out of those doors and for an epic brawl to ensue...and what we got was such a massive disappointment. Not only is Rockpion just a lame idea, but, like you said, the CGI sucked big ones.

major lost opportunity there.

That's true actually...the characters were annoying and the plot was meh. not to mention that ending CGI abomination

So correction: I'd compare Wrath more to the first Mummy, though with not as memorable characters and dialog...but still totally enjoyable from an action/adventure standpoint.

Isn't that the thing though, the Mummy works not because of the action but because of the characters and dialogue. They are so fun to be around.

My entire family still quotes Beni to this day. I fell in love with Evie and I actually felt that O'Connell was a legit man of action.

The Mummy 3 was bad but Mummy 2 was worse because it was from the same team, where as M3 was an obvious money grab. Plus no Rachel Weiz and now their son is a New Yorker who looks old. Seriously, he looks like Brenden Frasier's younger bro.

I have never watched the third Mummy. No Weisz, no point, especially after the 2nd one.

It was bad, and the CG was even worse than in the second film.

That is the thing, Wrath isn't as good as the Mummy, but it's not without its own worth. It's go some fun characters, some great action, some very cool set pieces, and great use of 3D...it's not a great movie...just a good movie.

If you can enjoy semi-shallow (it's not completely charmless) action movies, you go see Wrath and enjoy it for what it is. You demand amazing plot and dialog, you'll be disappointed.

Make sense?

maybe read my somewhat long (but hopefully enjoyable) review and tell me what you think. I've been posting my damn reviews around here for awhile now and haven't gotten a single comment back about them...leading me to believe that maybe I'm not doing so well with my reviews. It would be nice to get some feedback.

Cool, I think I'll read your review. You just threw me with the Mummy comparison.

One question though, how much is Rosamund Pike in the film?

awesome, thanks man! yeah, it's been awhile since i've seen the 2nd, so it took me a sec to remember my disdain for it.

Probably a bit more than half. Unfortunately, her character is completely unremarkable, not really good or bad, just there for the most part...the script doesn't give her much to do. She comes off as likeable enough though.

I thought the flick was a pretty solid adventure film. Some of the set pieces and effects are huge in scale, the labyrinth was very well done. Surprisingly got me to laugh a few times as well.
A few of my gripes were that I didnt really like the actual hand to hand combat or the way it was shot. But my friends seemed to think othwrwise so Might just be me. Thought compared to the actual creature fights they fely a bit improvised. Wanted the Ares/Perseus fight to be a lil more epic. My other problem with the film and its the same as other current greek myth films and thats [BLACKOUT]the killing of Gods. Dont think Ive ever read a myth where Gods actually die. Poseidon went out way too quick and should have at least put up a fight imo. Besides Ares I didnt feel they needed the other Gods to die or loose their powers. [/BLACKOUT]I understand why they do it in films, just pisses me off.
Someone needs to give Aphrodite a role in a Greek myth film. Thought for sure they would add her in this after mentioning her name.

If youve enjoyed the First one, then check it out. The set pieces, creatures and Cronus are worth the price. Fun flick.

Answers to questions:

-Bubo is in it. He's in Hephaestus (Bill Nighy's) workshop. Hephaestus talks to it and everyone looks like him like he's a crazy lunatic because he's talking to an inanimate mechanical owl.

-No real set up for a third one. Everything is pretty much resolved and wrapped up much like the last one which didn't have a cliffhanger either. Zeus says "no more sacrifices, no more gods." The time of the gods is over. Hades is alive but he has no more powers or immortality. Ares, Hephaestus, Poseidon, and seemingly all the other gods are dead. Perseus passes down his sword to his son and likely gets together with Andromeda.
