I think we're all familiar with Greg Land and his "artistic" talents.

Yep, Greg Land has no shame or originality. Lots of Porn star faces, probably because it's the easiest thing to find online.
I remember reading an interview with him, where he talks about how he'll set his panels up using photocopies and pictures to reference from, but really, he means trace.
In the defense of that Spidey cover, it's meant to be an engraving on a gravestone, and you can actually tell what you're looking at when you see it in person (plus it can open it up to expose the real cover illustration underneath if you somehow weren't able to make out the "engraved" picture). Yeah, it's an example of an otherwise bad trend in the 90s, but I think it worked in that one particular case. Of course it doesn't scan well at all, however, since it's not shiny like the other ones there, so it really just looks like a gray blob in the pic above.![]()
The 90's were cool, eh? yikes look at this mess, for those who can't tell we've got the covers to Fantastic Four #371, Avengers #360, 366, and Amazing Spider-Man #400.
Maybe praise was a bit over the topWho the hell praises him around here? Sure, Havok83 for some reason like Greg Land more than Terry Dodson, but who actually praises his art?
Even if his art wasn't stolen from other sources, I still wouldn't like it. Land's porn faces could be completely original, and merely resemble porn by some helluva coincidence for all I know, but I'd still pass on it since the expressions on his faces are rarely appropriate to the circumstances and his poses look like mannequins instead of having any fluidity.
My reasons are much simpler. I don't like the hyper-realistic style of art for comics, I prefer more of a cartoon-ish look. Since Land commonly traces from photographs, his art falls under that category.

While I do agree, I'm well aware that it's because of bad references. No need to point that out. My point was that I don't care about the wrongness of his plagiarism. Even though it is done in a photo-realistic way, I'm saying the art itself is just bad for visual storytelling. That comes from using inappropriate references. I mean at least if he's doing some guy or girl that is angry he could take the time to actually find a reference for it as opposed to just opening up his box of porno mags.
Alright back on topic.
Hey remember the 90's with big guns and big muscles?

The Hulk actually says "Hasta la vista!" inside the comic.
