Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Comic Characters who HAVE shown up in Agents of SHIELD

There have been a few characters named Whiplash. Since Marvel officially recognizes the Iron Man 2 villain as Whiplash (and created a comic character based on him), then I suggest using Blacklash for Marcus Scarlotti. I may be in the minority, but I'd rather use a name the character no longer uses than start having multiple characters with the same name.

What was wrong with making Scarlatti's first name Marco instead of Marcus?

Wonder if he'll team up with Donny Gill/ the blizzard

That doesn't look like Coulson. And who is that meant to be next to May? Skye?

I see this still hasn't been settled.

I guess the X-Men forum is now going to have to debate whether Pyro has actually appeared in the movies given that he has a different name and is from a different country. :whatever:

My view tends to be that, if it isn't clear after all this time, you have to air on the side of saying they're not the same character. He may well have been inspired by Tommy Ng, but that's not the same thing as saying he is Tommy Ng (although Mike Patterson is clearly Deathlok and inspired by Mike Collins's version). Importantly, there is a chance it's a complete coincidence. Given that, it's not worth saying they're the same character.

Pyro is closer to Deathlok than Scorch in similarities. Obviously, they changed nationalities (as many of the X-Men movie characters have done), but the name is very close to his comic version. There's less room for debate.

So your suggestion is that they deliberately decided to use a character they didn't have the rights to and hope they could sneak it in?

Who cares about the debate over such a minor character?

Umm no.

They went thru mountains of paperwork to find a character they DID have rights to because they don't want to be sued. That's why nothing that happens is a "coincidence".

Sorry, you actually have been pretty opaque. I've been trying to figure out what you were saying (I actually thought I was agreeing with you until your second post, for example).

In that case, it doesn't explain the name change. Mike Patterson's name change makes sense. First, they were trying to keep it a secret where he would end up. Second, though, they didn't change it that much. Michael Collins to Michael Patterson. Why change Tommy Ng to Chan Ho Yin?

Second, no one could believe that people would coincidentally come up with two Cyborg characters named Deathlok. But a fire character named Scorch? That seems infinitely more plausible. I'm certainly not saying it's likely, it's just within the realm of coincidence.

Look, I'm perfectly happy with it being a deliberate choice and counting him. I just think, if they change the name without any discernible explanation and there's this much debate over it, it's better to err on the side of saying it's not the same character.

When was Dr Faustus mentioned in AoS I don't remember that

In ep 3. ( Making Friends and Influencing People) Whitehall talks about the "faustian" method with Baksi (ore an other henchman).

Skye mentioned her crime junkie friend Micro in "The Writing on the Wall". Micro is short for Microchip, who is one of Punisher's close friends and weapons suppliers. So you can add that to honorable mentions.

Mr. Thompson from this week's ep was known as Agent Cameron Klein when he was with SHIELD. The name is/was used by a SHIELD technician in the comics.

Hilariously, his other name also is a call back to a character in Charlie Hutson's series of novels...

Sounded like Mike Rowe.

Figured I'd update this again, since no one else does (also realized that we'd forgotten to add Peggy & the Howling Commandos to the list). The number of CB characters in the first half of this season has now tied the number of CB characters from all of last season. I haven't included Raina, since we obviously don't know "what she becomes" yet.

There was a Kree Sentry? Mack wasn't really comparable to that was he?

I thought it was pretty clear that that's what they were going for.

- Jemma mentioned a legend of the "Devil's Sentry" causing people to become possessed.
- Mac then became possessed, to guard the Kree outpost.

If you'd like, I can put a "(maybe)" after his name until we get more info.

I'm not disagreeing, but I'll clarify that people disappeared in the legend rather than become possessed (unless I'm misremembering).

I think it's an allusion to the Kree Sentry without necessarily being the Kree Sentry.

I also think, in the end, we'll have a small select group of maybes that offer intriguing possibilities but will never be elaborated on (Scorch is probably the best example. I pray Raina isn't kept on the list). I suspect there will be no additional in-show explanations of whether he's the Kree Sentry (they'll certainly never call him that directly).
