Well it was written in the 20's, so if you're not looking at it with that in mind, I don't know what you'd be expecting from the writing.
Pulp Fiction , in that it was written for Weird Fantasy Pulp magazines, but I agree with the virtues of the writing. I love it....but i don't try to make it into shakespere.
Some of the messages of REH were antiquated, and i did feel like many of the stories were heavily racist and masochistic. But whatever, it was a long time ago. Stories are great, and they tend to have some complex undertones like the virtues of Savagery VS the horror of cultivated civilization.
I think you can do the masochism in a fun way to today's audience, but the racist stuff has to be altered to connect to today's audience. It was not a big part of the books much anyways. You see similiar Racist underones in a lot of Lovecraft's stuff as well.
Pretty much. personally I felt Momoa was perfect as Conan and the world that was built up around him was also breathtaking, really captured the archaic wonder that REH described. It's a shame we probably won't be getting a sequel.
Here are the details on the Blu-Ray release: http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Conan-The-Barbarian-Blu-ray-3D-Release-Date-and-Details/9659
I for one I'm very pleased with two of the documentaries featured. Regretably, the only thing that we won't get is an extended cut. Eventually we will, I suppose.
Okay, so I found the bluray at Walmart today. I saw two versions: 2d and 3d. Since I don't have a 3d tv, I just grabbed the 2d version. I just finished watching the movie and saw that there are no special features. At all. Not even commentary. But your link says that both bluray editions have features. What the Hell?
