Conan - Part 2

Well it was written in the 20's, so if you're not looking at it with that in mind, I don't know what you'd be expecting from the writing.

Pulp Fiction , in that it was written for Weird Fantasy Pulp magazines, but I agree with the virtues of the writing. I love it....but i don't try to make it into shakespere.

Some of the messages of REH were antiquated, and i did feel like many of the stories were heavily racist and masochistic. But whatever, it was a long time ago. Stories are great, and they tend to have some complex undertones like the virtues of Savagery VS the horror of cultivated civilization.

That's what makes Conan stories great to begin with!

I think you can do the masochism in a fun way to today's audience, but the racist stuff has to be altered to connect to today's audience. It was not a big part of the books much anyways. You see similiar Racist underones in a lot of Lovecraft's stuff as well.

...a little bit as well in some of the early Burroughs stuff.

Good news. I can't wait for the release.

On a side note, I've finally gotten on my third try to see the whole thing from start to finish. For some reason I was always late getting in. Anyways, the first section is seriously lacking. Itt starts way late (in comparison to the novel) and skips much of his training from his father and his grandfather (who doesn't even show up in the movie).

Conan was horrendous. Outside of the sets and cinematography I can't name one good thing I saw in the film.

I actually really liked it. I'll probably find a way to buy it when it comes out

I missed it in cinemas but still really want to see it.

By all accounts, from what people have told me, if you combined Conan 2011 with the Arnie Conan, you would get the perfect REH Conan movie.

Pretty much. personally I felt Momoa was perfect as Conan and the world that was built up around him was also breathtaking, really captured the archaic wonder that REH described. It's a shame we probably won't be getting a sequel.

Hopefully the success that Immortals is currently having at theatres, may attract viewers to pick CTB up and boost sales! Cross fingers!

Producer Fredrik Malmberg talks possible sequel: http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/...n-producer-on-possible-sequel-future-robert-e-

“A Conan sequel would be nice, but also of course, we’re working on both Kull the Conqueror and Dark Agnes , and Vultures as of now…. We have been working a little bit on one of his stories called “Pigeons From Hell,” which is a pivotal, classic horror story that he wrote. The boxing stories, we’ve actually also been discussing some of that.”

Hollywood has enough bad films; we shouldn't be wishing for more.

I really want a sequel to Solomon Kane, which was actually good.

I've found some gold. Arnold and director John Milius commentary track from the original Conan film. Truly priceless.

Bought the DVD yesterday and watched it last night with my wife. I had seen it at the theater and really liked it, she hadn't been able to see it back then. She liked it a lot and thought that Momoa did a really good job. It was a little bloodier than she prefers, but said the action was good.

Yeah it was a lot better than what I had expected it to be.

The action was definitely the highlight.

The feature documentaries were also excellent! I hope the sales turn out to be encouraging enough, not only to follow an extended cut release, but maybe even a possible sequel.

Got the DVD this week. Watched the first Doc but it's been so busy I have not been able to watch the whole thing yet. But my sister has.

Here are the details on the Blu-Ray release: http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Conan-The-Barbarian-Blu-ray-3D-Release-Date-and-Details/9659

I for one I'm very pleased with two of the documentaries featured. Regretably, the only thing that we won't get is an extended cut. Eventually we will, I suppose.

Okay, so I found the bluray at Walmart today. I saw two versions: 2d and 3d. Since I don't have a 3d tv, I just grabbed the 2d version. I just finished watching the movie and saw that there are no special features. At all. Not even commentary. But your link says that both bluray editions have features. What the Hell?

You got ripped off is what. Examine your packaging for what should be on the one you have. If its wrong you should return.

IMHO Jason Momoa was a way better Conan then Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I really liked this film, which was a surprise to me. I really enjoyed the bits of him as child that was done way better than the Arnold version.

The 3D Blu Ray also has the 2D version also, plus the movie on dvd. And to the best of my understanding the 3D BR and dvd have the special feature while the regular BR does. And I'm mnot exactly sure about the dvd having special features.
