The Dark Knight Rises Concerns about TDKR

Honestly for me those little moments gives the movie personality.

I liked when the kids were pretending to shoot at the cars and then look in awe as Batman speeds by.

I absolutely adored the part when the Tumbler crashed into the homeless abode and then the Batpod launching off.

Those are great.

Minus the SWAT guys commentary. I actually hate that part. He delivers that line horribly.

I'm going to be honest I never really paid attention to the Swat Guy. I do roll my eyes during some of the longwinded pretentious speeches in Nolan's films though. He always takes it overboard but to be fair he toned in down in TDK.

Now when I watch the movie Im going to pay more attention to him. I hate when you guys do this to me! It's kinda like how after all the jokes I always giggle now during that scene in Iron Man when Howard screams "Tony" and just sounds so much like a lady.

Well, see, you think the scene with the kids adds personality to the film.

Me? All I think is, "The kids just happen to be shooting at the cars just before Batman blows them up (which in itself seems excessive)? Good timing ."

I never thought that Nolan was great when it came to the humor in his films.

I love those little bits of humor. Some might not find it appropriate but they didn't bother me at all.

The SWAT guy seriously is the only moment in that entire movie that took me out of it and maybe Mayor Garcia's "little" speech to Dent before he gets scared by the Batcopies body.

Really? In the entire film? What about that Joker henchman in the bank scene in the prologue that monotonously says, "so why do they call him the joker?"--?

Seriously, the delivery of that line is so flat and out of place that it still makes me cringe even now. I'm still amazed Nolan didn't look at that scene and go "what a minute...no. This has to go.." For me it is really the only glaring imperfection In TDK..the SWAT team never bothered me in the least.

The SWAT guy is easily the worst part of the film. Another part that bugs the snot out of me is the continuity error with Joker's hair during the bank scene, but we've beat that dead horse enough.

One part that always bugs me is Michael Caine's delivery of the ENDUAH MASTA WAYNE speech. It feels like he is just reading the lines.

I'll admit, I chuckled when the guy had his side-mirror knocked off by the Batpod. It was a small moment that didn't call attention to itself, and wasn't over-the-top. I think that and The Joker laughing at the clown getting tazed by Batman's mask were enough tension breakers for the chase scene. And then the scene ultimately resolved with a healthy sampling of Gordon badassery.

The SWAT guy should've gone.
The kids shooting cars should've gone.

The guy picking his teeth annoyed me much more than the SWAT guy or the kids. In fact, the SWAT guy and kids didn't bother me at all. Well, I guess the kids bothered me just a little.

My fears for the movie are:

1. Too many villains.

2. The plot will too closely mirror that of BB.

3. Bale and Hathaway won't have any chemistry together or their romance won't be well-written.

4. Anne won't look attractive in the movie. I don't want to have to hear the same crap that was spewed at Maggie.

5. bane will look lame in some luchador mask.

See the point of the bystanders is to show how out of the ordinary and amazing the action or the superhero are.
Example: "It's a black.... tank!"
I think that's why the SWAT guy was there but he was so badly written that he didnt emphasize the danger but rather took us out of the scene.

Nolan also uses bystanders for comic relief but that rarely works. For example when Batman drives in the garage in Begins (from where he starts jumping across rooftops), the guard at the gate sees the Batmobile zoom by and looks at his coffee like "WTF am i drinking?" Its one of the few times it worked.
I also liked the cop in Begins:
"At least tell me what it looks like."
ZOOOM
"Nevermind!"

Other than that yeah i think average Joes should be used to express the awesomeness of the situation and some comic relief but not like those kids in TDK or the nice ride dude in Begins. Those were pretty bad.

I so agree with you about that line, as a matter of fact I was never a fan of 90% of the dialogue coming from the thugs in the opening heist scene because it all seemed akward. The Swat thing didn't really bother me either.

I loved the goons' voices and dialog in the opening scene. They sounded like a cartoon come to life.

As I've mention on these boards before, I hated the part with the guy yelling

NO MORE DEAD COPS!

and even worse the way the guy sounded when he shouts

THINGS ARE WORSE THAN EVAR!

it seriously took me out of the movie as it sounded so stupid

Then the summer of 2009 happenned and every night the news was filled with people shouting SOCIALISM! or spouting off about DEATH PANELZ! at town hall meetings.

I now see that scene as a perfect representation of the American public.

^ I swear some of you guys hate everyone else talking besides the main cast. What the hell was wrong with the cops getting frustrated and starting to shout at Dent?

Thats why I hated it, I thought that it clashed with the tone of the film.

I'm worried about the chemistry thing too but not Anne Hathaway's looks. She's the best looking woman he's cast as the love interest IMHO. I've never seen her not look pretty in a film. Nolan will have a hell of a time making her look ugly and I'll call him a bastard if he succeeds.

Also I didn't have a problem with Maggie G's looks in TDK and don't understand the complaints about them. She wasn't playing a Supermodel, she was playing a D.A and last time I checked they aren't hired for their ten out of ten looks. Katie Holmes is cute but she's not drop dead gorgeous either IMHO.

Honestly, I was only focusing on the fact that Maggie is a much better actress than Katie Holmes and was much better in the role (A poorly writen role IMHO) not whether I wanted to bang her or not because I am a woman who likes men.

I never had a problem with it..but I'm guessing others do because of the fact that said cop is just squealing out random one liner complaints at the top of his lungs that (a.), have nothing to do with what Dent is saying and (b.), don't even attempt to address any of the carefully placed points Harvey is trying to lay before the people. Mob mentality.

Also, if there were ever a visual manifestation of the english language personified being absolutely litterally strangled by some rage embattered person, that scene with the guy who says, "NO MORE DEAD COPS!!" would be it. Just saying.

But again, I don't see the problem with it, I thout it was fine and made sense considering what the citizens were going through.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the SWAT guys, the kids, The Joker's goons, and a few of the citizens. Also, like it's been said before, I hated Bale's Bat-voice. But more than anything, I HATED all of Michael J Whites lines. I actually think he was the worst out of everybody in TDK. His enthusiasm felt so manufactured.

He is an honest fanboy and has huge nerd cred (Spawn among other things). Michael J White is the man!

"It's gonna be like turkeys on thanksgiving down there"

My only concern at the moment is Bane's role in this movie. I'm just worried because of the 'main villain not revealed' rumors. I really don't want Bane to be just a henchman.

Worst part of TDK: "have a nice trip. see you next fall"

concerns: everyone will be comparing TDKR to TDK and it won't stand up against it. Also the whole Batman with the broken back scenario. I'd rather see him get dominated and beaten to a bloody pulp than break his back. A part of me wishes this isnt being made, just because the end of TDK was amazing. but another part wants it to be because i'm a lifelong Batman fan. I gotta trust in Nolan tho. He hasnt really steered us wrong yet
