Contest of Marvels II Thread 2

Avalanche Wow, I figured Klaw would win, but not by THAT much
Famine
Fabian Cortez I thought the strategy was believable myself, and smart
Alex Powers My mind has been changed

This is one of those threads where I both anticipate and dread looking in. When you know you are going to have a match that will be determined by a vote or two...sometimes, you just don't want to look.

I have to say, though, that it's better than getting blown away. (I still cannot believe Mercy got her butt handed to her.)

Klaw
Famine - However i think Hippy's point is valid...if she can turn all organic matter to dust that is in her vicinity how the hell did any survive a battle with her?
Scorpion
Alex Powers

Results So Far:

Klaw currently beating Avalanche 10-1
Famine currently beating Lady Deathstrike 6-5
Scorpion currently beating Fabian Cortez 9-2
Alex Powers currently beating Namora-Exiles 7-4

Back and forth, back and forth. This is my best match, yet. I can't wait to take on Hippy next week, too. Who ever looses is going to be wanting a little payback.

Indeed, I want to log out but I just can't tear myself away :wow:

Klaw (although I think I know a way Avalanche can win)
Famine
Fabian (he's a great strategist, and could likely use the prison against Scorpion)
Alex Powers

I think it's a done deal now.... what's your plan regarding Klaw and Avalanche?

Klaw - Not sure why this turned into a whitewash though
Famine - An epic battle. Congrats to you both. I'm only voting here 'cause I have to as there's almost nothing to split the debates.
Fabian Cortez - I thought this was an impossible fight until the location came up. At least it gave me a chance.
Namora - although Harlekin may have marginally edged the debate I still believe that Namora would win this.

Alex Power (Good debate W25th but Harlekin took it in the end)
It's understandable, W25th and Zoken do look alike. :csad:

Final:

Klaw beat Avalanche 15-1
Famine tied with Lady Deathstrike 8-8
Scorpion beat Fabian Cortez 12-4
Alex Powers tied with Namora-Exiles 8-8

Opening Comments: GAMESMASTER Vs VAPOR

From the bios provided:

Gamesmaster is an omnipath, a telepath so powerful that he can hear the thoughts of every being on the planet.
Vapor is capable of transforming her body into any type of naturally occuring gas. Although not much can harm her physically, she is only able to return to human form for brief periods of time.

Vapor is resistant to physical attacks while in gas form but this is not relevant as Gamesmaster will not be attacking her physically. Whatever form Vaper takes, she has no way of defending against Gamesmaster’s telepathic attack.

During prep time, Gamesmaster will be able to delve into Vaper’s mind to determine all her abilities and will see that she is no threat to him. I’m not sure that location will play any part here as the battle is very straightforward. Even if the two combatants are separated by great distance, there is nowhere for Vaper to hide from Gamesmaster.

WINNER = GAMESMASTER

Location:

While the dimension of Otherworld is also known as Avalon, the island of Avalon is actually only a small part of the large dimension that is Otherworld. Other places within this dimension include Fomor, home of the Fomorians, Annwn, home of the dead, and many other locales associated with Celtic mythology. The Starlight Citadel is home of Roma and the base of the Captain Britain Corps.
In general, Otherworld is a High fantasy world; gods, elves, dragons and many more live within small towns and large castles with no heavy industry. Large forests and bright lakes separate the several islands and locations from one another. Otherworld is not primitive though, while sorcery and magic is a part of daily life, the Captain Britain Corps and Avalon possess highly advanced technology.

History

In ancient times, there were many ways to travel from Earth to Avalon and back, created by powerful men known as the Twelve Walkers. Six of the Twelve Walkers became corrupt and created false paths that would lead travellers to dangerous places or insanity. The actions of these evil Walkers caused a backlash from the human inhabitants of Earth against all magical creatures and many of these creatures followed the paths to relocate to Otherworld. Most of the paths between Earth and Avalon were destroyed and only a few remain.
After the death of King Arthur, his body was taken to Avalon by Merlyn. Somehow the city of Camelot was also taken to Avalon, including all the Knights of the Round Table.

Merlyn, Roma and the Starlight Citadel

Merlyn created the Starlight Citadel, located on a different island than Avalon. From the Starlight Citadel he founded the Captain Britain Corps, a group of superhuman heroes who would patrol the countless Earths in the Omniverse. Merlyn became the Omniversal Guardian and was assisted in his task by the Omniversal Majestor/Majestrix. His task was to safeguard the Omniverse against any threats and the technology Merlyn provided was capable of destroying entire universes that were a threat. When Mad Jim Jaspers appeared, Merlyn faked his death and was replaced by Roma as Omniversal Guardian. Saturnyne became the Omniversal Majestrix.
Years later, Mastermind conquered the island of the Starlight Citadel, destroyed most of the Captain Britain Corps and disguised himself as Roma. Mastermind wanted the Amulet of Right and the Sword of Might, two mystical artifacts who had once empowered Brian Braddock, also known as Captain Britain and his enemy Joshua Stragg, the Reaver. Braddock found the artifacts before Mastermind and discovered that he was the rightful heir to these artifacts. He used them to defeat Mastermind and Roma named him the new ruler of Otherworld, while she remained as his advisor. Brian recently left his throne after the events in House of M and returned to Earth.

The island of Avalon and the Celtic Gods

On the island of Avalon, home to the Celtic Gods also known as the Tuatha da Danaan, Druids would forge the magical artifact known as the Evil Eye. The Eye was given to Prester John, who travelled back to Earth with it. The Celtic Gods themselves would have an endless war with the Fomorians, who would try to invade Avalon repeatedly. The Celtic Gods would receive assistance from Thor in repelling several invasions.
One of the Celtic Gods, the Lady of the Lake safeguarded Excalibur, King Arthur's sword. She became a close ally of the Black Knight and even gave him Excalibur when he lost his weapon, the Ebony Sword. Years later, the Lady of the Lake gave the Black Knight his new weapons: the Sword of Light and the Shield of Night. In return the Black Knight became her protector. The Black Knight would often travel between Earth and Avalon and seek the Lady of the Lake for advice.

For ease, we'll figure everyone is transported to a different area within Avalon. Since last time we didn't have any inhabitants, this time we will have people within the city.

Match 9:

Absorbing Man (KYTRIGGER) bio

vs.

Darkstar (WIEGEABO) bio

This is an interesting match because Darkstar is pretty damn powerful, but Carl "Absorbing Man" Creel..well...absorbs power.

First, the prep time. I'm not sure if Darkstar could get any info on Absorbing Man, but I do know that it would be highly unlikely that AM would get any on Darkstar. Even if he could, he just wouldn't care to. Thankfully, this doesn't really affect him too much since his strategy would be the same no matter what: absorb stuff, and beat the crap out of the opponent.

The biggest wild card would be if Absorbing Man can absorb the Darkforce energy. I am confident he could for the simple fact that he has been known to absorb other energies (even mystical ones) before and they usually power him up even more than normal. And once he gets powered, there is nothing that can stop him. Remember, that this is the guy who basically destroyed most of Asgard and then had the balls to challenge Odin in his one throne room. And Odin had a damn tough time beating him too. In fact, Thor wanted to help Odin out, but Odin wouldn't let him, and the only way he actually "beat" Creel was to trick him and Loki and then teleport them into space.

Now, I will admit that Creel isn't the smartest man alive, but he isn't completely stupid either, he was smart enough to beat basically everyone in Asgard. Yeah, Odin tricked him, but Odin has the advantage of being in Asgard with all his wonderful toys and whatnot, something Darkstar won't have.

Also, while Darkstar does have superstrangth, her strength is nowhere near that of Creel's and if she even tries to go toe-to-toe with him, she would be crushed.

Another VERY interesting thing about this match is the location. Otherworld and Avalon are a place of pretty large magical objects. Hell, it could be argued that the whole damn place is magic. Absorbing Man has been known to absorb entire places before, and the magic of this place would make him basically unstoppable. Just imagine Creel walking around and happening upon Excalibur and deciding to absorb it (actually, he'd proably just absorb all of Camelot), he'd be unstoppable.

Overall, Absorbing basically just outclasses Darkstar in everything but intelligence, and whiel she would definately put up a good fight, she would go down hard.

Darkstar vs. Absorbing Man

Initially this sounds like it could be a blowout, but don't dismiss Darkstar so quickly.

Absorbing Man should have a difficult time getting any information on Darkstar. On the other hand, with all of her connections, Layina should be able to get enough information about Carl to figure out what he can do. And, if nothing else, the name Absorbing Man should clue her in on his powers. The same can't really be said for the name Darkstar.

As tough as A-Man is, Darkstar will be able to put up a pretty good conventional fight. Her blasts could hurt Creel, or at least keep him at bay. Her flying and teleporting should be able to keep her safe from any of his attacks. Unfortunately, if Carl can absorb the right properties, he can become resistant to her attacks.

Which is where Darkstar has to get unconventional. She can use her darkforce constructs to beat on Carl, keeping him off balance. She could even pin him harmlessly in the air, trapped in a sphere of darkforce. Well, you might say, Creel will just absorb the properties of the darkforce and escape. Problem is, if Creel becomes darkforce, then Darkstar can control him. That's a risky situation for Carl.

Layina also has the ability to teleport people with her through the darkforce dimension. So she could bring Carl along for the ride, and just leave him trapped in the dimension. She knows he'd survive by taking on the properties of the dimension, and he'd be removed from the battle until the match was over

Darkstar wins

OPENING COMMENT: Alex Power vs Namora

Here we go again, you just have to love ties. Normally, I'd say that Namora has the advantage because she would have more info about Alex, but the environment works against her. She'll be unable to cut loose in this environment, since she is after all, still a good person, if a little arrogant. It allows Alex to chip away at her over time, using a basic hit and run tactic until she's too tired to continue, and then he knocks her out.

WINNER=ALEX POWER
