Location: Alcatraz

Alcatraz
Californian island prison, operational 1859-1963, held superhuman criminals in the 1940's. First appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #25 (1941).

(This is probably going to be just your basic prison. Figure you are going to expect what you'd see in our world, unless anyone comes up with information different in their research. It will be in today's time; so, the basic prison stands, but it's been a tourist spot for some time. Also, nobody really has to worry about security features, like we've had with previous prisons. Also, you can go outside the prison; you just can't leave the island. Flight is possible, but within reason, as JH stated. Let's say 1/4 of a mile in the air is alright.)

Spiral vs. Famine:

Wiegeabo and I are going to be tired of each other by the time this week is through. Basically, with Famine vs. Spiral, I'm taking the same approach I did with Lady Deathlok.

Xforce16_001.jpg

While upon first glance, the average voter might think this will be a blowout in favor of Spiral, I say it's just the opposite.

Spiral's bio states "Spiral has powerful mystical abilities. With gestures or dance moves, she can teleport herself and numerous people across great distances. Teleportation and powerful spells require more complicated dance moves. Spiral's spellcasting powers can be triggered through small hand gestures and that, because of her many hands, Spiral can cast her spells in rapid succession. Spiral often incorporates knives and swords into more complicated spells. Spiral can also disguise herself through her magic. Spiral can open gateways between dimensions and travel through time, though it has been implied that she sometimes requires Mojo's help to successfully teleport from one dimension to another. Mojo is a powerful enough mystic to control Spiral confidently, although she has also mocked and disobeyed (most often under her breath)."

Also, "As a result of being cybernetically enhanced on Mojo-world she has some limited level of superhuman strength. Spiral is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant and sword fighter. Her six arms are fully coordinated, giving her great dexterity and athletic ability. However, Spiral will often lose to less powerful opponents due to tendencies of overconfidence, toying with her foe for too long, or becoming distracted."

Now, let's look at Famine:
  • Famine is a mutant with the superhuman power to cause organic matter to turn to dust at will.
  • She can also cause an emaciated state through physical contact.
So, whatever part of Spiral is still organic can be effected.

I do want to re-point out some facts I discovered in my first battle against Lady Deathstrike:

There are some inaccuracies in some of the articles on Famine. Simply put, she doesn't need to touch a thing for her powers to work.

From her first appearances with actual action involved: In X-Factor 24 and 25, she is constantly shown riding her mechanical flying warbeast, causing anyone she wished to succumb to her powers without touching a single person. She is a good distance away, and you can see her hands eminating her powers at vast distances from her prey. NO TOUCH INVOLVED.

Also:

two characters who defeated her in the past: Quicksilver and Captain America. What you fail to mention is the actual circumstances of those appearances.

From Captain America #339: In this issue, we have Famine vs. FOUR SUPERHEROES, including Captain America, The Falcon AND REDWING, Nomad, and D-Man. AND, Captain America doesn't defeat her. While the other three have her occupied, he jumps her from behind, and Famine then has Apocalpyse teleport her away from the fight. SHE DOES NOT GET DEFEATED BY CAPTAIN AMERICA. And, think about it: 4 Against 1.

From X-Factor #84: In this issue, Quicksilver does knock out Famine. BUT, in this issue, it's 6 against 2. We have Caliban and Famine fighting all of X-Factor; and, after fighting the rest of X-Factor, Quicksilver comes up with superspeed behind Famine while she's battling them and knocks her out. Again, think about it: 6 against 2.

Basically, Spiral is a great hand to hand combat fighter; but, many of her mystical powers require concentration. Famine would await Spiral, and just like Lady Deathstrike, she'd cause her organic portions of her body to turn to dust. This alone will defeat Spiral. And, unlike Lady Deathstrike who had an amazing healing factor, that's not the case with Spiral. After being turned to dust instantly, she'd be dead. I realize that Famine is one of the characters in the contest who's been eeking victories out by the skin of her nose; but, like with week one, I believe she can take Spiral.

Winner = Famine

Yellow Claw vs. Armaggedon-Exiles:

This is a tough, tough match, because Wiegeabo just won't have that much information about Armaggedon. What we did come up with before is below:

his powers, so far as we know, are limited to strength and telekinesis/psychokinesis.

I know, not much at all. Plus, I'm figuring neither character will know about the other, either.

As the various bios on Yellow Claw state, he's a "criminal mastermind ... born over one hundred and fifty years ago in mainland China. A genius in biochemistry," he has the knowledge and experience to learn about his opponent and use his lack of experience against him. As his bio also states, "The Yellow Claw has superhuman psychic abilities with which he can influence another person's sensory perceptions, causing that Person to see, hear, and even feel the illusions the Claw projects into his or her mind. The Yellow Claw has considerable knowledge of sorcery, and has even proved able to reanimate the dead."

The location works well for Yellow Claw, whose numerous appearances shows he works well with shadows and deceipt. His knowledge of sorcery will help him a great deal.

A quick opening debate; more will come later. For now...

Winner = Yellow Claw

Armageddon-Exiles vs Yellow Claw

Prep-time will not help either since they're from alternate timelines. Location may favor Yellow Claw because he'll be able to hide. But he'll need to be careful hiding too long because Armageddon's strong enough to bring the place down in frustration.

This matchup looks to be fairly even. Yellow Claw can telepathically control others. Armageddon is resistant to mental attacks. Yellow Claw is strong and a skilled martial artist. Armageddon is also strong (since his 'father' is Apocalypse) and is no doubt a skilled fighter. He also has the advantage of telekinesis, meaning he can attack and throw Claw around from a distance.

Yellow Claw's sorcery could be a problem. But Armageddon's sheer strength and physical resistance (which should at least be on par with Apocalypse) should give him the time he needs to fight.

A fairly even match, but one that will go to Apocalypse's ultimate weapon.

Armageddon wins

Spiral vs Famine

Prep-time does nothing for Famine, but it is likely that Spiral can learn of Famine from her Mojoverse resources. So Spiral knows what she is facing, and not to mess around with this opponent.

Famine is someone who can take out most opponents just by giving them the irresistible hunger. But since Spiral knows this, she can take measures against it.

Spiral really needs only one attack to win this fight. She can cast a spell which robs Famine of her powers. Without those abilities, she will be at Spiral's mercy.

Or Spiral can just teleport Famine away, going for a ring out, or just buying herself some time.

Spiral could also cast a variety of other spells with quick gestures that give her the win. But taking away Famine's powers is the most efficient method.

Famine can do win against a number of characters. Unfortunately, she is facing an opponent who can take her main weapon away.

Spiral wins

Skullfire vs Alex Powers

If anything, prep-time favors Skullfire since he is from the future. So, if he can find any information about Alex, he'll know what he's getting into. If not, then prep-time does nothing for either of them.

Skullfire will take this match because his body is pure energy. There is nothing physical for Alex's gravity powers to work against. Nor can Alex use them against an opponent with no mass (like trying to pin him to the ground). And even if Alex could bring the entire prison to the ground and bury Tim, he'd just rise up through the debris because he has no body to crush.

Meanwhile, Tim can fire powerful energy blasts of energy at Alex. And he'll probably only need to connect once to bring Alex down.

It's too bad for Alex that his power will have no effect on his opponent.

Skullfire wins

Spiral vs Famine

Prep-time does nothing for Famine, but it is likely that Spiral can learn of Famine from her Mojoverse resources. So Spiral knows what she is facing, and not to mess around with this opponent.

I disagree. Famine has the database of Apocalypse, who'd definitely have information on Spiral. Also, for those interested in timelines, Spiral first came into the Marvel Universe in September 1985; meanwhile, Apocalypse didn't appear until almost a year later in July of 1986. Famine came after that. So, Apocalypse kept track of all things mutant and would most likely know of Spiral.

Now, there hasn't been any indication that Apocalypse has ever shown an interest in the Mojoverse or been any way involved. Mojo hasn't been involved in his dealings; so, saying that the Mojoverse would have information on Apocalypse might be a bit of a stretch. To say he has information on Famine is then a much larger stretch, especially considering she wasn't around for a long time.

Now, Spiral can probably figure out Famine's powers might make her very hungry; but, she won't know that she can turn all her organic parts into dust.

Famine is someone who can take out most opponents just by giving them the irresistible hunger. But since Spiral knows this, she can take measures against it.

Again, the Mojoverse and Apocalypse never coincided. Couple this with the fact that Famine is a rather obscure character, I doubt she'll know anything beyond maybe being hungry. (And, having Spiral pack a lunchable along on her battle just won't help.)

Spiral really needs only one attack to win this fight. She can cast a spell which robs Famine of her powers. Without those abilities, she will be at Spiral's mercy.

But, Famine only needs one blast to win this fight, too. Remember, Spiral needs concentration to perform her spells. If she's focused on extreme hunger, she simply will not be able to concentrate. Plus, while Spiral was originally shown to be a bit powerful, in recent years, she's been defeated by single foes quite frequently. Also, as I pointed out, Spiral's downfall is when she is overconfident, and I'm sure she'll be very overconfident when she thinks fighting someone who makes other's hungry isn't much of a power.

Again, see above. Spiral needs concentration, she'll be very overconfident, and Famine will easily know of Spiral due to her connections to Apocalypse.

Winner = Famine

OPENING COMMENTS: Mr. Hyde vs Longshot

This is a really good match. While Longshot has skill and agility, Mr. Hyde has got brains with a mixture of savagery and brute strength. I've already explained before in the Fenris match how his strength is on par with characters like the Thing, and weaker versions of the Hulk. He also started out as a Thor villain, and his power has only grown since then.

Longshot has the advantage of the Panopthichron, but severely lacks in experience because of the fact his mind has been wiped. The skills are in his bones, but he doesn't remember fighting characters like Juggernaut and such. Even then, the information Longshot will be able to glean from the Panopthichron won't help him out that much. Hyde is superstrong and has amazing endurance. It's not like Longshot has anything that he can use to avoid that.

What I haven't mentioned yet, is Longshot's luck, which aids him whenever he is working out of pure motive. Thing is, in tournaments such as this, where Longshot is simply fighting to win, and not for any greater good, that luck will run out on him. It'll aid him and there as he narrowly avoids a hunk of wall thrown at him, but it's not a match deciding factor.

So we've got a match here that could take a while. Longshot can't really do anything to hurt Hyde, as he's simply not strong enough to do so, and Hyde will have trouble hitting Longshot. Eventually however, Hyde will have had enough and just try to bring the house down. He won't be destroying the entire prison, but he'll be making enough of a chaos and destruction that a collapsing roof will take out Longshot.

Yellow Claw's sorcery is the way this match will be won. Armageddon won't have a chance to fight with the right spell; and, Yellow Claw's ability to use shadows and sorcery is a very powerful ability.

Armageddon is the 'child' of Apocalypse and Jean Grey. He has the powers of both, making him a formidable opponent. Even if he has only half the potential of Jean, he'll be able to form impressive tk shields and attacks. Combined with his sheer Apocalyptic strength and durability, he should have more than enough power to take on Yellow Claw sorcery.

Plus, Armageddon is an X-men. And with his help, they Apocalypse was finally defeated. And if the X-men of his reality is anything like the X-men in most other realities, they've faced magic users before. Probably even stronger users than Claw.

Armageddon wins

Spiral only needs to concentrate and carry out complicated dances when she's doing very complicated things like teleportation, or interdimensional travel.

With just a gesture Spiral can remove Famine's power, before she even gets a shot off. Spiral probably doesn't even need to be in the same area of the island to do so, whereas, I believe, Famine needs line of sight for her blast. Spiral only needs the use of small gestures to activate her powers. And with six hands, those are six spells she can cast at once. Spells like taking away Famine's power, making her unconscious, energy blasts, paralysis. After all, she was fast enough to take away the powers, and incapacitate, the Avengers and West Coast Avengers at the same time.

Or, Spiral can turn herself invisible during prep-time, taking away Famine's target. Thus giving herself the time to sneak up on Famine and deal with her physically or magically.

Famine's a great character to quickly take down tough opponents. But this advantage fails when her opponent can be just as fast and effective.

Spiral wins

Longshot Vs. Mr Hyde

Longshot2.JPG

Bit of a weird match this. Hyde has the strength to rip longshot in half but longshot is far too agile, fast and lucky to get caught.

On top of this any biological weapons that hyde can use will have little or no effect on longshot. With any disease there is always that tiny minority that are completely immune, for example there was that baby was born with aids whose immune system somehow managed to kil the virus. If there is so much as a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
chance of longshot surviving, he will.

So basically what it comes down to here is time. Longshot is more agile and no doubt fitter in the cardiovascular sense. With the speed at which he throws those knives of his he could hurt hyde easily (albeit in short bursts.)

Hyde will tire far quicker than longshot and once that happens longshot will simply knock him. If you're so tired you're practically collapsing on your feet a baby could knock you out, and longshot is far more powerful than most babies :woot:

WINNER: LONGSHOT!

I've already explained before in the Fenris match how his strength is on par with characters like the Thing, and weaker versions of the Hulk. He also started out as a Thor villain, and his power has only grown since then.

Strength means nothing if you can't hit your target.

A mind wipe is going to affect his tactics but in a fight like this it won't matter. mind wipes don't effect your reflexes as they are subconcious actions. This is of absolutely no consequence and in fact, because he won't be planning out the fight in his head his reflexes will be even more effective.

Debatable, hyde is a villain and longshot will know this. He is still punishing evil

Also weig has stated before (need confirmation on this) Characters are not aware they are in a competition. as far as they are concerned this is simply a fight.

WINNER=MR. HYDE

If he brings down the roof he's more likely to hurt himself, also he cannot simply decide to bring down a five square feet section of roof. Destroy the structural integrity and the whole thing will start coming down. With longshot's luck and agility he will easily be able to dodge the debris whereas hyde will simply get buried alive.

WINNER: LONGSHOT!

REBUTTAL: Mr. Hyde vs Longshot
Bit of a weird match this. Hyde has the strength to rip longshot in half but longshot is far too agile, fast and lucky to get caught.
Besides enhanced strength, Hyde is also a little bit faster than the usual human. Longshot can't keep dodging him forever. Even then, there's little Longshot can do to him.

That's not really how it works. He's extremely lucky, sure, but he'd die of that disease the same as any other. It's altering of probabilities, so that say, when he jumps out of a window, he just happens to jump out of the widow above a swimming pool. It's a luck that he moves just a little bit left instead of right and thereby avoiding something. His luck won't save him from everything.

So basically what it comes down to here is time. Longshot is more agile and no doubt fitter in the cardiovascular sense. With the speed at which he throws those knives of his he could hurt hyde easily (albeit in short bursts.)
They'll hurt. He'll crush them. He'll heal. Longshot will be running out of blades soon enough, and there's nothing that gives the idea that Hyde will be running out of breath any sooner. Enhanced endurance and all.

Hyde will tire far quicker than longshot and once that happens longshot will simply knock him. If you're so tired you're practically collapsing on your feet a baby could knock you out, and longshot is far more powerful than most babies
That would take hours upon hours. Longshot doesn't have that kind of time.

Debatable, hyde is a villain and longshot will know this. He is still punishing evil

Also weig has stated before (need confirmation on this) Characters are not aware they are in a competition. as far as they are concerned this is simply a fight.
But what is he fighting for? He's just fighting to stop somebody? Okay, let's say he knows Hyde is a villain, which can be assumed. But then, he's not protecting any innocents or whatever. All he's doing is protecting himself, and that really isn't the purest of motives.

That's where intelligence factors. Instead of knocking down all of the pillars, he could manouvre Longshot into position, and destroy just one or two. Alcatraz is big. Hyde won't be able to just destroy it all by himself.

Hyde's got time and strength that Longshot doesn't.

WINNER=MR. HYDE

OPENING COMMENTS: Skullfire vs Alex Power

Sorry I'm late. Had some internet problems.

On one hand you've got a being made out of energy, who can absorb energy. On the other hand we've got someone who can do exactly the same and more. Let's be clear here: Alex Power has all of the powers of Power Pack. That's gravity control, density control, energy absorbing and blasting, superspeed. It's doubtful Alex will have made the records of 2099, and so I doubt either will have info on one another.

I'd normally give an energy related match to Skullfire, but not only does Alex do the same, he can also use his powers for other purposes. Skullfire can be knocked out, and Alex can achieve this via any of his powers (with the exception of superspeed and energy). That means becoming superdense and crashing into Skullfire, or slinging around debris from the battle.

Versatility is key here, and Alex has it in spades.

Spiral only needs to concentrate and carry out complicated dances when she's doing very complicated things like teleportation, or interdimensional travel.

My quote:

Spiral has powerful mystical abilities. With gestures or dance moves, she can teleport herself and numerous people across great distances. Teleportation and powerful spells require more complicated dance moves.

So, it does seem as if she must perform dance moves for spells, too.

With just a gesture Spiral can remove Famine's power, before she even gets a shot off. Spiral probably doesn't even need to be in the same area of the island to do so, whereas, I believe, Famine needs line of sight for her blast. Spells like taking away Famine's power, making her unconscious, energy blasts, paralysis. After all, she was fast enough to take away the powers, and incapacitate, the Avengers and West Coast Avengers at the same time.

As Janet Jackson once said, "But, what have you done for me lately?" This is a very early appearance by Spiral. Since then, she's shown to not be quite so powerful and easily beaten. Another quote:

When Spiral was first introduced, she was a powerful sorceress and during her first two encounters with the X-Men, single-handedly defeated the team. She can cast spells to stun, depower, or immobilize her superhuman opponents, as she did to depower and imprison the Avengers and West Coast Avengers once they were still long enough for the spells to catch them. She has since been beaten by Longshot and other individuals.

Many times an introduction of a villian makes them appear vastly powerful; then, as time goes on, they are show to be what they truly are. Spiral is simply not the same person she was first shown to be. And, another quote:

Spiral will often lose to less powerful opponents due to tendencies of overconfidence, toying with her foe for too long, or becoming distracted.

Two factors can easily be taken into account. She will definitely be overconfident; but, if for some reason she finds Famine before she gets off a blast, she would probably toy with her for too long, especially since she won't realize how powerful Famine can truly be.

Winner = Famine

Even if he has only half the potential of Jean, he'll be able to form impressive tk shields and attacks. Plus, Armageddon is an X-men. And with his help, they Apocalypse was finally defeated. And if the X-men of his reality is anything like the X-men in most other realities, they've faced magic users before. Probably even stronger users than Claw.

But, the fact would remain that Armageddon hasn't faced on his own someone of Yellow Claw's abilities. As many magic users have proven, you can be amazingly powerful and be utterly destroyed by a sorceror. And, remember, Yellow Claw is a master of shadows, which this location will provide. Yellow Claw will know Alcatraz, while Armageddon won't. Yellow Claw is a master alchemist, along with being a master sorceror.

Winner = Yellow Claw

Sorry I'm late. Had some internet problems.

No worries. We've still got some debate time left.

On one hand you've got a being made out of energy, who can absorb energy. On the other hand we've got someone who can do exactly the same and more. Let's be clear here: Alex Power has all of the powers of Power Pack. That's gravity control, density control, energy absorbing and blasting, superspeed. That means becoming superdense and crashing into Skullfire, or slinging around debris from the battle.

Just so everyone knows, Harl was a good sport and pm'ed me about Alex having all four powers. I had been wondering which powers Alex had access to. But I just focused on his main one, knowing I could come back and talk about the others in rebuttle, rather then editing my original post.

The key to Skullfire's vistory is two-fold. First, he can manipulate energy and use it to attack. He's at least a good as Alex, which would result in a stalemate. But Tim is likely a better manipulator since he is now only energy, and would have far more experience with it. This gives Skullfire the advantage.

As for Alex's other powers, they'll contribute nothing to the fight because Tim isn't a physical being anymore. There's nothing to hit. Gravity won't effect him, being dense won't let Alex land a blow, and Alex can't hit Tim at super speed. Speed and density will make it harder for Skullfire to hurt Alex, but it will eventually happen since Tim doesn't really have to be worried about being hurt.

Versatility is key here, and Alex has it in spades.

Agreed. Alex is pretty versatile. The problem here is that his powers just won't really effect his opponent.

Skullfire wins

(Hey...I just noticed Boogie and Will in JH's avatar! I really need to find someone to make me a new one. I'm wanting an avatar of Strangers In Paradise real bad.)

*Yellow Claw

*Famine

*Mr. Hyde - (Hard decision; but, I'm going with Hyde, because I'm not seeing much of anything that Longshot would do to take Hyde out. Plus, if I say Longshot's luck powers will work with Hyde, then eventually I'd have to say his luck powers would work with everyone in this contest; and, I simply don't believe that. After all, Mojo captured his scrawny butt numerous times, if I remember right.)

*Alex Powers

Armageddon - I'd wager he could of Yellow Claw's mental might off long enough.
Spiral - I think her spells will be enough to overcome Famine.
Mr. Hyde
