Contest Of Marvels (Season 3) - Thread 3

Carnage vs Red Shift.

Oddly enough, this rematch can benefit Carnage. Knowing the power he'll have by taking over Red Shift, it'll be his strategy again. But this time, it'll take a little stealth. Leaving Cassidy behind as bait (or using whatever trick he knows will work after bonding with Red Shift the first time), Carnage can bide his time, then try taking Red Shift again.

One might think this benefits Red Shift because he'll be better able to throw Carnage off. But, with just his first time bonding with a herald, Carnage was almost able to take over the Silver Surfer, the greatest of the heralds. The only thing that kept the Surfer from succumbing to madness and the symbiote's control was the mind and compassion of Norrin Radd, as well as Spider-Man fighting the Carnage Cosmic physically.

Now, this is Carnage's third time bonding with a herald. Second with Red Shift. So, even if Red Shift was a good enough person before becoming a herald to throw off the symbiote, Carnage knows what tricks and methods Red Shift will use. If his insanity was enough to nearly bring down someone as compassionate and noble as the Surfer, does Red Shift have much of a chance.

Combine these bonding experiences with Carnage's absolute, deep hatred for the heralds because the Surfer brought in Galactus to wipe out a world the symbiotes had taken over (the memory's been passed down through their genetic memory), and this time the Cosmic Carnage will live again.

Carnage wins

This rematch is going to heavily benefit Red Shift. Now Red Shift has the power cosmic plus his two swords. He may not be Silver Surfer level but he is certainly up there among the uber heroes. Marvel lists the following powers for him:

Marvel said:
Powers
Red Shift has all the powers and abilities of one who possesses the power cosmic with the added talent of being able to open dimensional portals. Red Shift can use his portals to either trap an enemy, pull items, such as meteors, through to attack his opponents, or redirect attacks meant for him back at his rivals.

Obviously, here Red Shift will know exactly who he is facing and will not come within reach of Carnage. He will use the power cosmic to scan the area to find the symbiote and this time he will know that
marvel said:
The Carnage symbiote is vulnerable to sonic and heat based attacks

He will take full advantage of that and annihlate Carnage with no pity by using heat based attacks to blast the symbiote to nowhere and he will do this from a safe distance never coming within a 100 meters of Carnage who cannot befuddle his cosmic senses that can sense things across miles.

Winner - Red Shift

Carnage cannot fly and as such there is no way he is going to surprise a herald of Galactus that can attack him from large distances. Plus leaving Cassidy means red Shift can destroy him that much easier. He does not have to get up close. He can just blast him from a mile away or if he wants summon a meteorite. There is nothing Carnage can do.

This is a second battle and as such Red Shift would not make the same approach. He will not get near the Symbiote. His distance based attacks include blasts, cages and even meteorites. As such Carnage could only try and dodge thses but even his throwing blades have no chance of hitting red shift that can open portals to redirect attacks at quasi light speed (he has redirected lasers). Plus we all know Carnage is highly vulnerable to heat.

Now, this is Carnage's third time bonding with a herald. Second with Red Shift. So, even if Red Shift was a good enough person before becoming a herald to throw off the symbiote, Carnage knows what tricks and methods Red Shift will use. First off, explain to me how he will bond. Is Red Shift a total idiot who is going to come close to carnage and say "bond me"? I find the whole argument preposterous. Already the first time, there was no debate when I stated it should not happen. Now this time I would like it explainned why red Shift would come within reach of carnage. He can blast him from hundreds of meters away effectively while flying above him. He cuold even just call in meteorite which would destroy the area inclusing Carnage.

I understand the strategy here and it is one of desperation. The only way Carnage would have a hope would be to bond. Now there has already been a battle and Red Shift already knows this strategy so there is no way the symbiote would even get a chance. You seem to ignore that Red Shift can fly at very fast speeds and that he does not need to get within reach of the symbiote to annihlate it or if he is feeling very nice about it, maybe he will encase him in a cage of white flame.

Match 1:

Growing Man (MIDNIGHTICE) link

vs.

Rocket Racoon (AHURAMAZDA) link

rocket.jpg

At first, when I saw this match I thought why in the hell did I draw a racoon and how best to concede it bt then I read up on the match and saw a clear strategy to win.

Here are the Growing Man's powers:

The Growing Man is a stimuloid — a form of android that absorbs most forms of kinetic energy directed against it, which in theory renders it impervious to physical harm. The absorption of the energy stimulates the rapid multiplication of the stimuloid's artificial cells, causing it to grow significantly in size with a proportionate increase in strength and resistance to damage. It is assumed that in order to grow the stimuloid draws its additional mass from an extra-dimensional source. The Growing Man's original size is that of a child's doll, but it can achieve the height of a building ten stories tall. Kang is also capable of using an unknown form of energy that causes the Growing Man to revert to its original size. The Growing Man's circuitry appears to have limits, however, as both Thor and Hercules are able to disorient and damage the android with a series of super-strong blows.

Now Rocket racoon is an excellent tactician and an expert in cybernetics. He will get some information on the growing man due to his position in the Guardians of the Galaxy and then devise his trategy.

He will just attampt to imprison Growing Man without ever directing any form of kinetic energy against him. The jail can be quite small given we are talking something the size of a human doll.

Growing Man reacts to violence but does not have the ability to strategise. Unless Rocket Racoon actually attempts to hurt it, Growing Man will stay the size of a doll.

Winner - Rocket Racoon

Growing Man VS Rocket Racoon

This is a fun match. I really don't think RR, even being in Guardians of the Galaxy, can get any info on Growing man. Of course GM won't get much info on RR either.

Well since GM absorbs most forms of kinetic energy directed against it, which in theory renders it impervious to physical harm, there is not too much RR can do to win this match. RR will attack GM and he will absorb this energy and grow bigger and stronger.

By the time RR realizes what is going on, GM will just step on him or crush the small, poor, vermin.

I will onjly rebut a few things. One the Guardians of the Galaxy have a considerable amount of resources and as such it is wholly possible that RR could find a few things about Growing Man. Plus he would in any case have scanning equipment in which he could analyse Growing Man once he sees him.

Rocket racoon is known for his very keen tactic mind. He is second in command of a group that includes Adam Warlock, Bug, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot, Mantis, Martyr, Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Major Victory, Jack Flag, Moondragon, and Cosmo the Spacedog. He will not attack Growing Man without knowing what's going on and Growing Man does not have any powers until he absorbs kinetic energy.

My whole premise is encaging Growing Man without ever attacking him. Therefore he remains the size of a doll ..... like Ken of Ken and Barbie.

For some reason, I read this and thought, "OHHH NOOOO, MR. BILLLL!"

PUMA VS. MOONSTONE

This must seem like an impossible match. It's not.

Ten years ago? Yeah, Moonstone would've won.

But today's Moonstone? The relatively ditzy woman who has trouble using her powers effectively? Heck, if Jack Flag could take her down, Puma sure can. He's got the strength, the speed, the endurance and the stealth.

WINNER=PUMA

Moonstone vs. Puma

Moonstone with the power of the stone has the ability to fly, superhuman strength, and agility. She can fire laser like blasts from her hands, which can penetrate steel. She is also immune to attacks from a mystic nature. She is very intelligent and manipulative in getting what she wants.

FYI to all voters:

As per the rules of the contest, you must have your opening debate in by Tuesday afternoon. If you don't, you are not allowed to debate your match after that time, because it doesn't give your opponent sufficient time to rebutt your argument. For this reason, you are asked to strike the opening debate presented late in the Moonstone vs. Puma match by WitchKing.

My Votes:

*Moonstone - (I really don't want Rogue fighting her in Round 2; but, I have to give this battle to Moonstone. Intangibility alone would be hard for Puma to counter.)

*Rogue

*Growing Man

*Thunderstrike

*Red Shift - (A rematch favors Red Shift too much, especially since Carnage is going to try the same move as before. Also, I got to thinking, if Carnage merges with Red Shift, don't we just have a new character made up?)

Thunderstrike
Rogue
Moonstone (just too much for Puma)
Red Shift ( I said the same thing last time. Red Shift would not be defeated if they merge. They will both be still in the fight.)
...
Rocket Rackoon (ha, RR would be crazy enough to cage GM and try to keep him as a pet)

Moonstone
Electro (I think he's underestimated far too often. But I'm sure he'll lose the vote anyway.)
Thunderstrike
Growing Man
Red Shift

Puma
Rogue (Sunfire)
Rocket Raccoon
Thunderstrike
Red Shift

Rocket Racoon (I don't think it'd go over as easy as stated but I think he can pull it off)
Puma
Thunderstrike
Rogue
Red Shift (Good job, Ahura. Changed my mind)

Moonstone

Rogue - Electro is powerful, but no debate about how to get around Rogue's abilities.

Rocket Raccoon - Genius tactician with cybernetic expertise against an android...

Thunderstrike

Carnage

Moonstone - has too many abilities for Puma

Rogue - Electro does not have the brains nor knowledge to win

Thuderstrike

Red Shift

Rocket Raccoon

Moonstone defeats Puma = 8-3

Rogue (Sunfire) defeats Electro = 9-2

Rocket Racoon defeats Growing Man = 7-4

Thunderstrike defeats Terror Inc. = 11-0

Red Shift defeats Carnage = 10-1
