I like Wolverine... It's the guy with claws from TLS that I hate... :oldrazz:

Yeah, the way they wrote Wolverine in TLS was so completely out of character. Its like the X-Men version of the whole catwoman "CINO" thing....

"WINO" .......heh, thats bad :p

Ah! I had that as my sig for a long while! What a great moment! If anyone is powerful enough to take down a sentinel on his own it's Cyke! :cyclops:

p.s It's "why" not "while", no?

You're absolutely right. Corrected the typo.

And yup, a great moment indeed.

And it's not so much the power display as the looks on Logan and Pete's faces. You know, that 'holy f**k, did that just happen?' look. :woot:

He's with the UN, how can a girl resist? :D (Stupid script. So what if Storm is the only teacher alive? Beast joining the UN would be soooo epic!)

To be fair, the script actually has him joining the school as a teacher. And the screenwriters make it clear how they feel about Brett Ratner's version on the DVD commentary. :)

The only good thing about movie Wolverine is Hugh Jackman's look...if they cast someone look more alike the comic Wolverine, most of the non-comic fans female audience would probably lose all interest in him. (That's exactly the reaction I got when I showed my friend what Wolverine really should be.)
Just what LastSunrise likes to remind me all the time - that women are so shallow that they can never pay attention to quality or even read something intelligent, because they are "visual creatures" who only care about stuff if a handsome guy is involved. :o
I hate that notion. Yeah, so Hugh Jackman is a handsome guy, great, and comicLogan isn´t exactly an Apollo. But why is it so HARD to accept that a woman can be attracted to fictional characters, and they don´t have to be handsome at all? :whatever:
Of course, I don´t like when artists draw Logan as a fugly dwarf, because he was never supposed to be horrible to begin with. Logan is a rough, tough man, never a pretty boy, but he can be very seductive; it´s not a surprise he conquered a lot of pretty ladies in the MU.
But having said that, one of my favorite "Wolverine" runs was Greg Rucka´s, and the artist for it, Darick Robertson, created one of the fugliest Logans to ever grace Marvel´s green earth. Altough the fans were so shocked that later he changed him a little bit.
So yeah, I absolutely LOVE comicWolvie. And the funny thing is, I know girls who prefer comicWolvie and don´t think of Hugh Jackman as sexy at all! :oldrazz:

That´s exactly one of the reasons I dislike so much Joss Whedon writing Logan. He would never be that surprised, he knows very well Cyke´s power and what it can do. He wouldn´t go all "uh, boss, you´re the best!". It would be cool just to have him looking all nonchalantly, and then saying "Nice one, Cyke."
Most of the time in Astonishing Logan is just an idiot, thinking about beer and attacking people, even his own friends! :cmad:

:( :( Like "Forever friends" style. Fur and all.

I just imagine THAT actually happened:hyper:

Actually, no one knows for sure. And in Whedon's defense, how long has it been since Cyke blasted the f**k out of something that big? Well, actually, Cyke packs the firepower to cut right through a sentinel, but, whatever.

And just for the record, you kinda missed the point of the scene.

Cyke has somewhat of a psionic control over the damage output of his powers. The more pissed he gets, the bigger and deadlier the beams become. Simplification, yes, but it essentially covers it. There's a reason why Cyke makes it a point to be such a control freak.

Forgive the crude imagery, but what we got in AXM #8 wasn't just an optic blast. That was an anger-fueled optic blast.

Anyway... if anything, that was just Wolvie being surprised to see Cyke not holding back as he would usually do. Wolvie knows Cyke is not someone to f**k with, but just hadn't been reminded that vividly in a while.

The line was little more than him aknowledging it out loud. That's it. No Cyke worship nor Wolvie ooohhh-ing and aaaahhh-ing. Relax. :woot:

Geez. You don't hear us Cyke fans whine every three seconds about how tough Whedon's run have been on him for the, what, first 17 issues? :woot:

Sigh. Whedon's take on Wolvie is hardly the worst thing ever. :woot:

So the guy doesn't have a raging hard-on for the character. Still beats the f**k out of what Carey and Brubaker are doing with their respective crews.

About the beer thing... The guy's riding a bloody godzilla and can't even bothered to think about the ongoing battle or worry. Sure, the thing was a joke, but, still... if anything, that's to his Wolverine's credit to be that calm in the middle of a fight. :woot:

As for the "attacking his friends" thingy there was quite a lot more going on than him throwing a tantrum and attacking Hank just for kicks.

No thats logan spot on right there....last time cyke came back from being merged with apoc...Logan said he even though scott wasn't himself...Wolverine said he follow scott down to hell if he asked him......X-men #112 says it all

No thats logan spot on right there....last time cyke came back from being merged with apoc...Logan said he even though scott wasn't himself...Wolverine said he follow scott down to hell if he asked him......X-men #112 says it all

Mmm. Well, I think Loganbabe fully knows it's canon that Logan respects Cyke and made the decision to still follow.

But that's not really what we she was talking about. She didn't like what she thought of as Logan being in awe of Cyke's display of power in AXM #8.

And I was telling her that Logan wasn't really. More like him respectfully aknowledging the f****d up state of mind Cyke was in to unleash that destructive of an optic blast.

Oh well.

^ its the same situation though......because wolverine was talking too much cyke told him to shut up because the blob and random was around the corner............Logan was in awe with Cyke after he did his Scarlett fury on Blob and Random that wolverine couldn't even see...........the blast went off a wall and hit both of them.....

Thats why I gave the full issue because I was being too general

It's not that hard to be in awe of Cyclops' power...considering how much he needs to be in control of his optic blasts, how reluctant he is when it comes to let loose of them, you'll easily forget about how destructive Cyclops' power actually is, and get a sudden reminder everytime he does use it.

And Eve of Destruction is a good read, here is the part I love best:

Wolverine: 'By my count, there are only a few THOUSAND of them, COVER ME...I'm goin' in.'

Cyclops: 'Okay.'

Wolverine: '......'

Cyclops: '......'

Wolverine: '...I was just kiddin'.'

Cyclops: 'Me, too.'

Wolverine: 'And don't you think that's a little STRANGE?'

Cyclops: 'I'm not following you.'

Always makes me laugh when I read it.:yay:

Now that would be a surprise...in most boards, it seems Cyke fans are quite happy that´s he´s in the forefront of Whedon´s run! That is, besides Kitty of course, but that´s another thing.
Okay, I know some fans hate Scott/Emma, but at least Joss is trying to do something knew with the Cyke, with him going all loony and shooting people and things like that.
Now Wolverine...I think he just reverted him to the ol´brute stupid Logan from the very beginning. It can be funny sometimes, but not very interesting to read, from a fan´s p.o.v.

Sigh. Whedon's take on Wolvie is hardly the worst thing ever. :woot:

So the guy doesn't have a raging hard-on for the character. Still beats the f**k out of what Carey and Brubaker are doing with their respective crews.
I don´t mind at all if Logan isn´t the main character...the problem is how Joss decided to use him - as muscle, and only that. Okay, now he´s trying to invent some kind of relationship between him and Hisako, but since his run is coming to an end it won´t be developed further, I guess.
A writer who didn´t use Logan as a main character, but used him in an interesting manner was Grant Morrison. Logan had some pretty good dialogues, and he was showed as more than just an automatic killing machine. Issue # 148 (the one he "kills" Jean) is one of my favorite Logan moments, ever. The dialogue was topnotch + the art was great = perfection.

About the beer thing... The guy's riding a bloody godzilla and can't even bothered to think about the ongoing battle or worry. Sure, the thing was a joke, but, still... if anything, that's to his Wolverine's credit to be that calm in the middle of a fight. :woot:

The beer joke was kinda funny the first time Joss used, but he ended up repeating it ad nauseum. It´s like the only think Logan has inside his head is "Beeeeeeer" - like a clawed Homer Simson. :o
As for attacking Beast - okay, he was making a point, and the dialogue before the fight was good. But why did he use his claws to fight a friend?! Logan is quite capable of making a point without his claws - that is, he could had used only his fists! :woot:

I think that Cyke and Logan´s "male bonding" in the first issue of "Return to Weapon X" was one of the greatest moments between them. Nice dialogue, again proving that Morrison can really write some wicked stuff!

*resisting urge to make a comment on Joss' creepy fixation on Kitty*

Funny, I seem to remember people being pissed off after issue #14. :woot:

I said a tough run, not a bad one. A satisfying run doesn't mean the character had it easy. And I did say before #17. :woot:

Sure, Cyke was always there, but his presence was of little - if any - importance in, oh, I dunno, the most important battles so far. Oh, and then there's the whole self-doubting that got even worse than usual, the dream of Jean calling him a failure and #14's ego mauling.

Surely, I can't be the only who noticed that while Scott and Emma are the two main characters after Kitty, they just also happen to be the two that got abused the most. :woot:

Hey, I totally get that it was about setting up his ordeal in Torn, but the fact is, the character pretty much kept failing and eventually hit a low-point before he could rise and strike back.

Thus the tough comment.

In all honestly, I'm not quite sure I get what's all the fuss about doing something new with the character. Interesting and overdue, yes. But new?

Joss is basically telling is Cyke can go hardcore/grey while he's not holding back. Huh... f*****n Apocalypse, anyone? I'll admit the way Joss brought the character there was just brilliant, but exactly how is that notion new or surprising in any way whatsoever?

I personally think it's what he's best at, so I don't really have a problem with it. Keep in mind I said best and not the only thing he's good at. :cwink:

I suppose so. But I kinda got the vibe that the point Wolvie was making was about how he was ready to kill Hank if he wussed out.

Hell yeah. Just gotta love the agressive pose Wolvie is striking before the claws retract and the look he gives Cyke. :woot:

Mmm.

Actually knew what moment you were refering to.

Still doesn't change the fact that Wolvie wasn't so much impressed at the feat as he was surprised/shocked at seeing Cyke showing off and playing it stone cold. The scene wasn't about Cyke's prowess/capabilites. It was about Wolvie worrying/wondering about Cyke's state of mind and Cyke not exactly giving him a reason to not do so. Hell, the whole issue was just that. :woot:

Sure, Cyke was always there, but his presence was of little - if any - importance in, oh, I dunno, the most important battles so far. Oh, and then there's the whole self-doubting that got even worse than usual, the dream of Jean calling him a failure and #14's ego mauling.
Well, Joss isn´t one to develop characters, it seems. He likes to put them through the winger a lot, but that doesn´t mean he knows what to do with them afterwards.
He brought Colossus back, and only now he´s trying to do something with him. It would be nice if he had written a scene showing Logan and Peter together, having some nice converstion about how it feels to be "dead". Those kinds of situations give the characters...characterization, you know? He´s wasting away Hank as a character as well. I don´t think that the X-Men stories have to be all about battles and big fights and stuff. But you already know that. :cwink: I also love the "slow moments", showing the X-Men going to a bar, playing cards, relaxing by the pool...I don´t know, interacting as the friends and family they are. I really miss that in "Wolverine" too. Recently, Logan met Jubilee again, and for what? Just to see her kidnapped and hurt, and they didn´t even had time to say one line of dialogue to each other. :cmad:
So, I think that at least Scott is getting some development, even if it´s not a great development. But it´s still better than what Joss is doing with Peter, Logan and Hank.

Surely, I can't be the only who noticed that while Scott and Emma are the two main characters after Kitty, they just also happen to be the two that got abused the most.
Yeah, but a little bit of abuse can be great for a character sometimes! :woot:
Joss lost a great opportunity to make the X-Men deal with what Cassandra had done to them. Imagine, in Logan´s case, feeling like a fragile and scared child again. Or Hank facing what he fears the most, "de-evolve". Sometimes, I think Joss just like to play with the characters for kicks. :o

In all honestly, I'm not quite sure I get what's all the fuss about doing something new with the character. Interesting and overdue, yes. But new?
Not exactly new, but like I said, at least it was something.
But nothing really great, yeah. I don´t think he´s a great writer.

Oh well. *shrugs*

I personally think it's what he's best at, so I don't really have a problem with it. Keep in mind I said best and not the only thing he's good at. :cwink:
Wolvie being used as muscle isn´t exactly what I find most interesting about the character.
But then, he´s a tough one to write. It´s difficult to find the right balance between the failed samurai, the berserker, the mentor with a heart of gold, the resourceful and trained warrior...some writers succeeded, but Joss writes him too much as a thug for my taste.

Hell yeah. Just gotta love the agressive pose Wolvie is striking before the claws retract and the look he gives Cyke. :woot:
It would be a great scene to see in a movie! :woot:

thanks for the info, bub. i didnt know this.

That vid makes me want to laugh...not usual reaction for me when I see James.

man, i look at spider-man 3 and merely weep at how much x3 sucks by comparison

sorry...just had to put that out there

it's ok it's what the boards are here for. Last time i checked anyways. :)

James is going to appear in two upcoming musical films. There are clips of him singing on Youtube too.

What, you mean the same generic ass story done for the 3rd straight time?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Spiderman films, and I really wanna see this one, but come on, they are all the same god damn thing.

X-Men's worst is better than Spiderman's best.

X-Men's worst is better than Spiderman's best.

I dunno, man, the Spidey/DocOc fights and that elevator scene in Spidey2 was more entertaining than anything we've seen in any X-flick. :woot:

Hell, I still haven't gotten over how funny that scene was.
