Not saying its good or bad, but that still qualifies as an adaptation... If it has quotes, imagery and a character name, thats all you need to say you're adapting something.
Not for me personally. If you take away the names, and they hadn't pegged this as an adaption from the beginning I really doubt anyone would have said, 'Wow, this is definitely a rip of the Divine Comedy'. It's like if someone had adapted The Great Gatsby as a GTA style free form game with a gangster story in the style of something like the Godfather and used the names from Gatsby. Sure, technically that would make it an adaption, but it's so divorce from its source, I personally find it hard to believe it as an adaption.
Sure, there would have been the nine circle but at this point that has been so ingrained in culture anyway. It's something they probably would have done whether they were 'taking' from the source or not
It's more than a couple of names and imagery. More ******** from the haters.
The game interprets and depicts all the levels of hell Dante traveled through in the poem.
