Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 8

Just finished season 3 and it was must see tv.

Vanessa is hands down the most loyal character in the ENTIRE MCU from street level Jessica Jones to galaxy level Thanos.

We all need a friend/lover like Vanessa.

Also, I think we all need to givr a special shoutout to John Paseano. His score this season has been FANTASTIC. He sets the mood perfectly each episode and his score really elevates tense scenes and the action scenes.

I finished Season 3, and it is just as good, if not better than S1! The performances, score, fight choreography, cinematography, story, etc

The only thing I didn’t enjoy was Agent Nadeem til towards the end of the season.

Best Superhero TV show!!!

My only gripes is probably the writing of Agent Nadeem when he's with his family. It's so obvious it's written by someone who's not brown. lol

Yes we need someone who will help you plan the murder and slaughter of innocent people in the name of your business :D

I'd agree. Those scenes felt very off to me. Keep in mind the showrunner was Erik Oleson.

I loved it. I just hope it continues. This is my favorite show

I agree but the soundtrack releases are so barebones. There's so much from 1 and 2 and now 3 that aren't on the score releases. Even the hallway track is missing a chunk from the escape bit. I just want expanded releases

I didn't get a Netflix notification about season 3 being out (they give me notifications for stuff I will never watch) and it's not even on the front page or recently added section. Makes me think they're burying it. I'm worried...

Don't worry that happens all the time, the front page of Netflix is really random with the stuff they display even if there's a new Netflix exclusive release sometimes they don't splash it right away.

Have to agree with the favourable reviews... DD is my favourite Marvel TV offering, this topped Season 1 for me. All three seasons have been strong, Season 2 being the weakest and probably suffered from "too much" syndrome. Having watched Season 3, I think they did the fans a service by wrapping the story up thematically in case it doesn't return. So if it finds a new life on Disney's streaming service, there's plenty of story left for further adventures (Bullseye, the Kingpin can never be contained, Vanessa is still free... I'm sure Elektra survived). If this is the end... well done. I would have stayed on board for much more as long as the quality didn't suffer but thanks for giving us closure, just in case.

Having said all that, if this is true, then it makes me appreciate Season 2 more. It gave us Elektra, and the ninja mythology aspect of DD (Stick/Hand) while introducing us to Punisher, so with Season 3 in the books, I thought the writers/runners did a fantastic job of covering all the basics of DD's mythology. The series taken as a whole was like a coles notes "essential DD" for a casual fan like me. I hope the hardcores who have been reading him forever approve as well.

I have to applaud the entire cast, everyone was strong across the board. The occasional awkward bits of dialogue are explained by a directing style they've used in these series throughout, which is letting the actors ad-lib frequently. If I have to pick, my favourite performances were Sister Maggie, Kingpin, and Father Latham. Felix Manning was delicious in his bits. Fixer indeed. But everyone was enjoyable and at minimum, played their parts believably. They really fixed Foggy for me (who was frequently annoying during vast stretches of season 1). Foggy really is the moral compass in both Karen and Matt's life. He serves as a great counterpoint in the sense he isn't damaged like they are, but is willing to accept them for who they are, and regardless of what they have done.

The meta story is about broken people and how good people around them can help heal them, but ultimately it comes from inside the person. Matt learns to embrace the good people in his life instead of pushing them away. Even Fisk has a victory knowing that he has found a person who understands and loves and even embraces his "true self". Contrast with Dex who pushes away/tries to manipulate and control the good influences in his life and he ends up where he deserves to be.

I think it's sort of expected. I don't want to say the word "sexist" lightly but I think everyone (including women), especially 20 and older, are conditioned from birth to easily see men's achievements and ignore women's.
Yeah, it’s sad. She was anything but boring. I would love to see her show up in Season 4 with where everything ended up with season 3. A Murdock Papers sort of adaption (not directly but similar to how they “loosely adapted” Born Again for this season.

Pfff what? Elektra is just a boring character, it has nothing to do with sexism. And in general I never really liked romantic relationships in fiction.
Well, that’s just sad.

I certainly don't mean that everyone who likes Frank or Fisk better than Elektra is sexist, or even everyone who finds her not an engaging (i.e. "boring") character is sexist. But there's an undeniable fact that we all pay more attention to men and see their accomplishments more easily, and are more readily provide extra nuanced interpretations (or headcanons) to make them more rounded characters (yes it's a fact and it's undeniable, no one needs to at me). Female characters are usually not paid attention to as much, their flaws are usually taken at face value, and people are less likely to spend time digging deeper into their characterizations to understand their flaws or to make them less two-dimensional (it doesn't help that usually male characters are better written and given better lines than female characters, so it's even easier to dismiss female characters). I never mean people aren't allowed to like male characters more, but I think we should take time to examine whether the fact that a character is a man raises our opinion of him, or vice versus, whether the fact that a character is a woman makes us pay less attention to her.

The straight-up "she's boring but it has nothing to do with sexism" and the unprompted opinion about fictional romantic relationships are like parody and make me assume that post was sarcasm anyway.

I hope this doesn’t get axed like Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

No way. This is one of Netflix's crown jewels, theyre hangin on to this.

It’s my favourite superhero show season of the lot. The 3 Daredevil seasons are all individual contenders for the top spot. What a consistent show.

I can't check the link on mobile for some reason but that is some crazy level of choreography and skill if they managed to do that.
Yeah, they shut down production for a day to rehearse. They had more than one attempt to get it in one take and they built in a couple places where, if they needed to, they could have done a cut. But they not only did it in one take, he actually lightened up the scene where it was really dark just to prove it wasn't a hidden cut.

I thought it could be sarcasm but still.

As for what you said, that’s all very true. That’s why I hate all the hate she gets (though I do have issues with how the defenders handled her/Black Sky). Either way, I really would love to see Elodie play her again without all the Hand stuff holding her back cause she really was great as the character.

That shows how good all the people involved in the fight scenes on this show are (easily the best close quarters fighting in any of the shows). Hopefully we get more seasons and they keep the whole team together.

How is sexism when I'm saying I don't like the character, it could be a man for all I care, it would still be a boring character to me. Iron Fist is boring too. Karen Page is awesome. I could go on. This is such a dumb conversation.
