Daredevil Daredevil General Discussion Thread - Part 8

It is possible that Charlie Cox's Daredevil will have soft reboot but he will not reference the events that happened in the show if he ever shows up in the movies, or in any of the marvel tv shows that Disney is developing for their streaming service. We gotta wait and see.

Will people still boycott if a new dd turns up in a future spiderman or blackwidow film? They can do a soft reboot and skip his origin and have him just turn up in another film.

Keyword here is reboot. Unless the continuity is maintained, it is a skip for me.

Disney already ruled out Disney+ or a film appearance. I guess this means he's headed to Hulu.

So if marvel agreed with sony to do a 3rd spiderman film (with tom holland) but dd (not cox) was in it you would refuse to watch it?

That would be a skip for me, yes. If it is a full reboot. If they maintain the current continuity in the way they do with TIH, I prob would still not be happy but would be more okay with it. Full on reboot, skip.

In my ideal world Daredevil enters the MCU films with Charlie Cox, introducing him as if the general audience doesn't know who he is. The Netflix shows work as a prequel of sorts.

Thing is i don't think disney would want the ga to look at the netflix shows as a prequel, when they are trying to launch a competitive service.

Right, but whatever they do, those Netflix shows are set in the MCU. They can't ignore that fact as much as they would like to.

Are they? They might have been promoted as such but they weren't made by marvel studios.

The mcu is feige's, the tv has been perlmutter, loeb etc... if feige decides to ignore the tv canon i doubt disney would bat an eye.

We are fans and think of what we want to happen. Unfortunately the politics and business decisions are a lot more complicated and probably won't match.

I see this as just being an excuse. Feige may not have had a hand in the DD show, but I assume Feige understands the concept of quality and with a quality Daredevil show already existing, it can energize fans to see him on screen and build a solid foundation for future projects. Just doing something different and ignoring your fans because you hate some other jerk in an office I don't really find to be a good excuse.

It might have been feiges favourite show on tv. It doesn't matter.

Disney don't want people in the theater saying "who's that" and people answering, "he's the guy from netflix".

Let alone the fact they might have to pay netflix to use that iteration of him.

I might be wrong but i doubt it. Disneys statement was that they ended that chapter.

Highly doubt they would have to pay to use that iteration of him. Marvel may have distributed the show through Netflix, but the rights to the character remain with Marvel. Referencing things that happened in the show outside of his basic origin likely could be a restriction, but using the character I see no different than using Hulk.

Ok if netflix have the tv rights for cox dd why would disney have cox in a film when they can easily recast him and have total control?

Hulk they replaced the actor anyway.

Easiest thing for them to do is recast in a couple of years.

Sorry just think us fans are looking at it from the perspective of what we want to happen.

In Hulk's case, Norton got himself fired basically by being difficult, not promoting the film, etc. I bet if none of that happened, he'd be Banner today. Cox has been nothing but a good soldier and fans like him.

But it was easy enough to replace him and fans didn't mind.

Fans were not attached Norton, most had no strong feelings one way or another. Add to that, the movie itself and his performance in the role didn't really define it the way that Cox has really taken ownership of this character.

Feige may recast, it is certainly a possibility but I imagine it would difficult to find actors that could portray these characters the way Cox, D'onorfrio, etc. have done.

Because TIH was not as acclaimed or as popular as Daredevil is with fans. I am sure the GA won't care, but me, a fan who has paid Marvel thousands of my hard earned dollars, watched thousands of hours of content they have produced in my lifetime and seen these movies anywhere between 3-8 times threatrically to support them, I care and it will bother me. Simple as that, and I won't support such a move with my time/money. Also simple as that.

Don't get me wrong i'd love to keep them. Can't imagine another kingpin.

Just think it's done.

Fair enough, not saying you're wrong and respect how you feel.

I'm not saying this is what i want to happen, just what i think will.

Again i might be totally wrong. Just don't think i am. They ended it for a reason.

My biggest issue if Marvel were to effectively reboot the characters is the fact that Marvel's deception. If these were going to be rebooted and be effectively negated in the continuity, then they should not have been sold as MCU shows and Feige should never have even side stepped that talk by saying "Maybe someday!" if there was never any attention, then be honest with your customers!!!! Don't let us get attached to one thing only for you to be like "Oops, sorry you liked that. But here is the REAL one!" I cannot support that. They better be treated as in continuity if Daredevil and co appear again for this very reason. That's my opinion

Agree. The "it's all connected" line was a bollox. Which i really hate. But i think it might have originally intended to be but the fall out with kev and ike killed it. With the new streaming and the merger i think we might see a rearrangement of things. With feige getting more control of certain of the tv aspects. Although this is just me wanting so it probably wont happen.

If the shows had been all good, it would be a different story. Maybe. But the quality of the shows is all over the place. I also doubt Feige saw ALL the episodes.

There's no way the Netflix Daredevil can show up in an MCU movie unless Marvel massively adjust the tone of their movies.

Sad to say but it's over. At best we might get a PG-13 TV or film version down the line but I doubt any of the actors will come close to what the Netflix show has done. And really, I have no desire to see the Daredevil character in a standard MCU movie with everything played for laughs and with no stakes. Same goes for The Punisher.

This is one of the problems with Disney buying everything; impactful, upsetting-at-times storytelling just won't be happening as it's not compatible with the brand. With some of the Netflix shows we really had lightning in a bottle and an era we'll probably look back on and clamour for in the future when every superhero show/movie is a PG-13 comedy.
