Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread - Part 2

as great as they'd be on Cable... shows like Law and Order arn't watered down at all... and pull off exactly what DareDevil should pull off... maybe not punisher level... but DD yeah, he'd be fine

I would actually like to see some Matt Murdock law scenes in the court room and potentially driving even the main arc of some episodes. You might not be able to get that in a film because they'd feel compelled to make it mostly action. With a TV series, you could alternate between the two.

Maybe get Dick Wolf for DD.

To steal an idea from AB, 2015 is an ideal time for a DD film that would startup a Marvel Knights line. Thor 3 and Avengers 2 are the only movies based on their current lineup's production rate I can see possibly being scheduled for that year.

That we know about

Imagine Punisher, Daredevil, Heroes for Hire, Daughters of the Dragon, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi and Blade under the same label of Marvel Knights.

GAWD, I sure hope so. :wow:

And don't forget Elektra. And maybe Doc Strange.
Plus, if MK wants to draw from the actual comics under that byline, you could even have some cross-play from Avengers like Widow and Panther.

Why wouldn't people want to see SS and Galactus again on the big screen...look how many people flipped out about this news

? and incredible hulk wasn't a box office failure .. was it a great turn out? no.. but it didn't bomb either. for that sake FF2 didn't either.. both had about the same budget, and made back close to the same money wise.

However... critically ... FF2 was a HUGE flop compared to TIH..
37% - 55%

the Halle Barry catwoman is largely ignored and forgotten considering it had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with either batman or catwoman herself. That comparison does not work... that film is in it's own box that is only should ever be used as proof as what not to do in hollywood.

what people? even on here i'm not seeing a large amount of people upset that FF might not have SS and Galactus... they're eager to see them in the MCU not the FF universe. Why? because they're in their natural habitat where they can co-exist with other cosmic characters.

True, I forgot about Strange and yeah I could see Black Widow being the bridge between both universes.

I don't see what else is there. Black Panther? Doctor Strange?
Yes. Yes. Possibly a TIH 2. And there remains the possibility that Avengers 2 is actually scheduled for 2016, while 2015 will introduce new characters instead (such as BP and DS).

Black Panther, Luke Cage, Quicksilver, Runaways, Namor....

Oh I thought Avengers 2 was planned for 2015. Oh well. I hope Black Panther and TIH2 come out 2015

nothing is confirmed planned beyond Cap 2, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. They didn't even mention an Avengers 2 at comic-con. So based on facts.. this is all we have of phase 2 so far... it could mean Avenger 2 in 2015 after all these films.. or it could mean 2016... 2017... with other films coming after this batch. We don't have any proof. just personal thoughts

I think people will claw at me when I say this but, I truly truly believe that if done right a Daredevil movie could be just as great as Nolan's Batman trilogy. Daredevil has such rich material to draw from (like Batman) and is such a dark, tormented, multi-dimensional character (like Batman), and I feel like you could tell a fascinating story on-screen with the right director and writer.

The only real obstacle Daredevil faces imo, is his costume. His costume is going to be VERY difficult to pull off live-action and not look silly. But hey you know what, 10 years ago I would've said the same thing about a certain web-head's costume so I love to be proven wrong.

I agree completely.

i agree as well... but, at the same time batman also has such a rich and popular amount of rogues.. that there's many people who watch his movies for them, rather than batman himself.

Daredevil does not have a rogues gallery like that unfortunately. But... there's plenty of good stories to be told, and to be told as well doe as nolans films

I agree with that, well you could take most characters and produce three great films you just need the right talent and get lucky with the story. Fox needs to shell out some more money for better talent to write and direct these films.

This formula is simplified but essentially
$262m budget /2 = $131m for studio, $131m for theater chains.
$131m - $150m production budget = (-$19m)
(-$19m) - $35m marketing = (-$54m) for the studio to eat

It can recoup losses through Blu-Ray sales and TV cable deals but it was still a box office bomb and the reason Universal and Marvel held back on a sequel. FF1 actually made a small profit but FF2 also lost money in theaters, hence why Fox didn't proceed with another film.

A trilogy or even a duology/dilogy is enough. Because after DD, comes character like Moon Knight, Punisher, or Iron Fist.

In Marvel it's about "next character please..." instead of reboot.

Marvel didn't tell us everything they have planned...if you think they did I got news for you
Aren't you the one that said you're writing a treatment for Luke Cage? I remember seeing that a while ago and forgot who it was that said that

I'm sure there is lots of stuff in the planning stages they are still hashing out figuring out how to bring things on.

However, I think if Marvel were to get any franchise or group of characters from Fox that would be a good thing.

fox will get DD done in time imo hell they hired vaughn like 2 months before they shot first class

if they already have descriptions of 70's era i imagine script is set in stone for DD

But how many of the general audience knew Ras Al Ghul and the League of Shadows, or Bane, as he had such as small role in Batman and Robin? Even before the Burton/ Schumacher films, were everyone that familiar with Two Face, Mr Freeze or even Poison Ivy who didn't watch the cartoons or the 60s series? The most familiar characters would've been essentially the ones in the 1966 Batman movie - The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler and the Penguin.

I bet half the general audience don't know who is Man Bat, Killer Croc, Hugo Strange, Clayface, Solomon Grundy etc. If movies were made with those characters, the public wouldn't be going to see them but Batman.

So I think with DD, his rogues gallery could be good if they were given exposure. Some of them are even almost Batman-esque in nature and could have fit in as Batman villains themselves such as the Owl or Mr Hyde, or even the Kingpin and Bullseye.

Hey Roach, would your take on Cage fit in a darker Marvel Knights universe or is it MCU material?

Also, I now dub the non-existent but possible Marvel Knights Universe the MKU.

Use Kingpin but don't re-use Bullseye and Elecktra. Save them for sequels or whatever. I would just do a one off film if Marvel can secure the rights- within the next 4-5 years. Then move into Marvel Knights. Sort of a smaller scaled Avengers. GR and Blade do no need additional films, so you have four characters right there along with Punisher. Imagine Affleck/Snipes/Cage/Jane in their primes as those characters. Would have been a blockbuster back in 08-09.

If they were with Fox's cinematic universe, they might be the FCKU.
