Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread - Part 2

Daredevil would sit on the shelf for years like The Punisher and Blade are doing.

This allows daredevil to possibly be Fox's big summer 2015 film If Fantastic Four reborn Isn't It.

I think either way its win for Marvel getting another franchise and/or group of characters for them to use as they see fit back.

Fox might just try to stick it to them though and rush two movies into production to hang on and avoid it altogether though.

I kind of doubt Fox really wants both Daredevil and FF that badly, though. Neither franchise was a major success for them, obviously, but it seems far more likely that FF could become a blockbuster franchise for them if they do it right this time. Daredevil: less so.

IMHO, Fox will be far more willing to let DD go than FF. Although it would be interesting to see just what the money situation is....Fox could still come out of this win/win, and keep BOTH while just selling off a few major support characters/villains from the FF universe.

Personally, I don't think an FF franchise is going to lose a lot of traction if it gives up some of the major cosmic characters to help Marvel Studios expand their cosmic frontiers --- say, Galactus and his Heralds, Surfer, the Kree and the Skrulls, Uatu, Blastaar and Annihilus. That still leaves an FF franchise with some of the most classic villains in the Marvel Universe --- Doom, Diablo, Dragon Man, the Frightful Four, Impossible Man, Molecule Man, Mole Man, Klaw, Puppet Master, Red Ghost, Agatha Harkness and Salem's Seven, Wizard....

hope it's true about Carnahan directing Daredevil. the guy is an excellent director. though to be honest, i always thought Punisher was better suited for him.

The thing that worries me is I think Marvel isn't even asking for FF back, I think they are only asking of Fox to be allowed to use Galactus and Silver Surfer while Fox keeps Daredevil and FF.

Which begs the question what kind of deals did Avi Arad sign?

Why has Fox been allowed to keep everything so long with NO products?

Carnahan could be directing Daredevil?

Well ****, this is better than Slade so I love this.

Fantastic four however does have the benefit of merchandising. Where daredevil really does not . He's less kid friendly

They merchandised the hell out of the Batman films, despite how dark the recent Batman movies were.

but batman is batman... one of the top most recognizable heroes to ever be in creation, and has had countless cartoons and what not geared towards children over the years. Daredevil i don't think has even ever been given a show aside from guest star appearances on spider-man... There's nothing "light" about the Daredevil comics... aside from maybe stilt man and ringmaster....

You know I was thinking what if Marvel traded the movie rights to all the Marvel Knight characters and a reasonable lump sum for the movie rights to Fantastic Four and the tv rights to Daredevil.

Then they could add Fantastic Four to the Marvel Studio Universe and make a deal with HBO to do a Marvel Knights tv series.

i think marvel is eventually going to have a Marvel Knights label that's ok with doing alot of darker pg-13/R rated films..

I think this sort of leads credence to that rumor that Galactus and Silver Surfer were part of a separate licensing deal from Fantastic Four. So they can extend DD in exchange for those two, while at the same time wait on Fox to deliver with the F4 reboot, then pounce on the again if or when they fail to do so.

At any rate, this sort of proves that Fox's threat of producing ashcan copies as a last resort to hang on Marvel's franchises was a bluff. Now it remains to be seen just how committed they are to Carnahan's version.

Not everyone's going to get this joke, but if they want an Ashcan copy they should get Faran Tahir on board for the role. :hehe:

I think its a good thing that Daredevil probably stays with FOX. DD doesent need to be part of the MCU.

But I have one question:

If FOX would get Daredevil into production before October 10th, wouldnt that mean they could keep the rights even without that whacky deal with Marvel?

DD is my favorite Marvel character. I desperately want a solid portrayal of Matt on film. But the idea of Galactus and Silver Surfer in the MCU sounds exciting too.

Ughhhhhhh. We need that 'why not both' girl from those commercials. Please save us, child.

We wouldn't be hearing rumors about this wheeling and dealing if Fox was confident they could meet such a tight deadline. Even for them, 2 months is too short.

Guess you are right. No one has been cast yet. Director is still uncertain. Heck, is there even a finished screenplay or is it just an "idea" they have?

I kinda expected that FOX would figure that Daredevil is just not worth it anymore and let the DD rights go back to Marvel.

But the solution Marvel Studios has suggested now seems to be the best way for all partys.

Marvel Studios gets their Cosmic Characters to use them amazingly in the MCU, FOX can relax and take its time to make a decent DD flick, and they can still make a F4 movie with Doom. Also, if DD would ve gone back to Marvel Studios, they would not use the property for 6 or 7 years I guess. They re too busy with their other stuff. So keeping DD at FOX is the only way we get a DD flick at all in the forseeable future.

Well, no surprise there. Fox doesn't seem all that interested in making a DD film to begin with, so why give up rights to key characters of a franchise they DO have an interest in?

Yup, it would've been stupid to give up corner stone characters in the FF universe.

but silver surfer and galactus arn't corner stone characters... Doom however....

They most certainly are. Doom is their arch nemesis but Galactus ans SS right there behind him.

No, it would've been cooperating. Fox and MS both could benefit from shared cosmic characters. It's clear that MS definitely wants to explore Cosmic Marvel, and a rebooted FF could (should) very well spend a lot of time in space also. But if Fox wants to slam that door on any sharing of characters, then Marvel can play that game, too. Fox is already SOL when it comes to the Inhumans, and that takes away a major part of the FF mythos right there. Between Avengers and FF, it's anybody's guess as to who will end up with exclusivity over the Skrulls and/or Kree; and I'd be willing to bet that MS has already cornered Kang and his incarnations for the Avengers mythos, which removes any chance of him appearing in the FF. Plus, MS definitely has Namor, so the classic love triangle with Sue is out of the question.

Is Fox really ready to write off half of their possible storylines and characters just to keep Marvel from using Galactus and the Surfer? Doubt it.

In any event, if Deadline's sources are right, sounds like it is now all but official that Daredevil (and presumably Elektra) have officially reverted back to Marvel. And that's great news. Now, if only MS will wise up and start exploring the street level heroes, too, we can get some Marvel Knights up in this joint.
