So people are automatically clowns if they didn't like the guy's portrayal of Kingpin?

B.S.

I hated his Kingpin and pretty much the direction his career went after Green Mile.

I blame Mark Steven Johnson for everything that went wrong with the Daredevil movie though. MCD was just doing his job.

You have every right to express your opinion, but if you don't understand why it's tacky to slam him right after his death... yeah, can't help you there. :|

Gandolfini for Kingpin & of course The Devil for Daredevil:

(someone please edit out the Tony Scott bit)

Like this poster a lot. Never considered Gandolfini for Kingpin, but he does fit into the role quite nicely. Good choice.

James Gandolfini would be a good choice for Kingpin.

I'd really like to see the next Daredevil movie feel a little bit like The Departed - that sense of unrelenting rising tension Scorsese packs in the last hour is incredible.

I'm still a fan of the 1970s period setting personally.

I think Daredevil's just better off 'away' from the major MCU. Even if it's present day.

I liked Ben Affleck as Daredevil (although I don't like the actor himself)...but I thought Ben Affleck played his character very well.
They can just make the sequel and not reboot...Have storyline like Kingpin is still in prison but orders some other villain to finish off Daredevil..

I wouldn't be against that.I really rather not go over the Elektra storyline again.

Its been almost 10 years since the last DD movie and the first movie didn't really light the box office on fire. The opportunity to make a sequel to this film has passed, making a sequel to a film from 10 years ago that wasn't very memorable doesn't seem like the path to box office gold.

Ben Affleck himself didn't like Daredevil

"I made a bunch of movies that didn't work. I was ending up in the tabloids. I don't know what the lesson is, except that you just have to find your compass. I liked Sum of All Fears. Daredevil I didn't at all. Some movies should have worked and didn't. At a certain point, it's just up to the movie gods.
Anyway, this image becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. And I just said, "I don't want to do it anymore. This is horrible. I don't want to be in this spotlight, this glare, in this way. It's tawdry, it's ugly, it's oppressive, and it's inane. So I'm going to try to get away." And most of the way I did that was by not acting. I said, "I'm going to steer myself toward directing. I'm going to do something that takes me toward a place where the work that I do is reflective of what I think is interesting dramatically."

From his Details interview

So if Marvel does make a DD movie, how dark or light hearted should it be?

I'd say going for a "Dark Knight" tone would be good.I didn't think the tone was off for the original DD film, myself.

So if Marvel does make a DD movie, how dark or light hearted should it be?

Most Marvel properties are fairly light-hearted with just a bit of dark mixed in.

I think Daredevil is their opportunity to get gritter yet still be fairly mainstream, like Batman (The Punisher and Blade movies will always be a little more niche).

So if Marvel does make a DD movie, how dark or light hearted should it be?

Ideally, something along the lines of Miller's first run, which perfectly balanced the dark and the light. Realistically, it'll probably more reminiscent of the Kesel/Nord run or maybe something like what we see currently in volume 3, which while excellent I understand might not be everyone's cup of tea.

I don't know how dark the story should be for DD but I certainly want a grittier aesthetic to his film than the rest of the MCU has shown so far.

I think Seven has the right amount of grit for DD but that would never happen.

Agreed with that. I dont think the tone of The Dark Knight would be dark enough for my ideal Daredevil movie.

Definitely something grittier and more violent. The idea of making it a gritty crime drama in the 70s is ****ing BRILLIANT.

I want to see teeth knocked out, bones broken, blood. Not over the top though.

People keep suggesting Ryan Gosling for Batman, but honestly I think he'd be much more suited to Daredevil. He'd be perfect.

What about James Franco as Daredevil....

Hmmm....still thinking who should play Daredevil. And the gritty 70s setting would be perfect!

Gosling is a pretty good pick but I don't think he'd be interested.

I ultimately don't think that a Daredevil movie will be made unless it's PG-13. Marvel will want a bankable return.

But that doesn't mean it can't be as gritty, even grittier than The Dark Knight. They just have to be clever how they show the violence, like Nolan did with Joker.

The tone should be a little more violent but nothing that tips it into R material. I think the 1970s neo-noir crime feeling would actually help with that. Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon have the right kind of tone.

I would agree with Ryan Gosling, but not sure if he'd do it.

James Franco could be good, though I find him a little hit and miss.

Another name I've always thought might work - Jeffrey Donovan, the lead from Burn Notice.

He often has the right intensity in the show and does action well. I think he could be a good Matt as well as Daredevil.

Still in the Michael C. Hall camp overall though.

watchmen tone would be ideal

Yeah but Watchmen was rated R and we will never see a R rated DD movie, its not going to happen. A DD movie is going to be PG-13, but most DD stories are not really R rated material in the first place. I think you cam do a good DD movie that is PG-13.

im pretty positive Watchmen was rated R basically for 2 reasons... Blue Wang all over the place, and the gory scenes with Rorschach

none of which should be present in a DD film... so, i think the TONE of watchmen fits perfectly imo
