Dark Souls - Prepare to die.

I did not play Demon's Souls and have found Dark Souls to be fairly accessible once you understand the basics.

Ok I'm getting pissed now, I still cant find a way to advance even online I cant find an answer

I'd say just make your way back to the entrance and start over, you probably just got turned around at some point. If you entered from The Depths, you just follow the torches down until you hit the bridge/bonfire.

Man, I was a little worried about getting burnt out on sword/magic by playing this before Skyrim... but Skyrim is going to be such a breath of fresh, easy, non stressful air. :yay:

lol

with Arkham City so close and Skyrim not too far away, I think I'm going to hold off on Dark Souls. I don't think Dark Souls is quite my cup of tea. but, if the price drops in the future, then I might be more inclined to check it out.

plus, by then, hopefully there will be more people online in the community.

LOL.

Yea i thought about using some humanity, but i thought to myself, I'm going to die in the next 5 min any way, why bother?

I've used Humanity strictly to kindle bonfires. 10 flasks makes life much easier than 5.

I'm sorry, but how is ANYONE enjoying this? I just picked it up today, full price, and I'm tempted to trade it back in. I like challenging games, too, but this game is sadistic. I finally beat the Taurus Demon boss after two hours of work, had 3 humanity and almost 5000 souls. I wasted all my flasks by this point and was sure that the game had a bonfire coming up. Instead, I'm attacked by a dragon with no warning and die. By this point, I'm pissed but I know if I can SOMEHOW get back there without dieing, I get everything back. Nope. That didn't happen. I ended up jumping off a cliff with a jump attack INSTEAD of using my strong attack. So 3 hours of work down the toilet. Plus, no pause menu. What the ****? That's like industry rule 101: add a pause menu. The controls are also terrible with every button press registering. That sounds weird doesn't it? "The controls are terrible because they work"? Well, no, controls can't be cancelled out. You press roll twice, you better hope to God there isn't a nearby ledge because you WILL roll twice, no matter how many times you press another command. And the camera is a ***** in tight corridors. Which CAN be problematic, but it isn't really, just annoying.

I'll keep going, but so far, I feel like I wasted 60 bucks.

You probably should go ahead and trade it in. Maybe pick up something more your speed. I think that Sesame Street game is coming out pretty soon.

Yeah, played the demo for that. Was definitely more my cup of tea.

Seriously though, this game is insane. It's so fun, but I hate having to do the same thing over and over and over. It gets really damn boring...I obviously need to work on my strategy.

I am loving it. I think it's one of the best open world games out there. The way you can just go deeper and deeper into new and crazy zones underground and how happy you are to find a new shortcut and see the sun shine again. I really think this is what a Dante's Inferno game should have been; walking from the city, to the under city, to the sewers, to blight town, to the poison swamp, to the lava ruins, feels a lot like traveling through the circles of hell. It's kind of amazing that it's all connected without loading screens

Finding and upgrading equipment and getting more and more badass feels great. I have a Lightning Spear +1 and an Eagle Shield +10 and can plow through most of the enemies I come across.

What you really need to get over to enjoy the game is to not care when you die. The punishment really is not severe. Souls are important in the game, but they are also very plentiful. You get a lot of just getting through areas, and later in the game it throws a lot of collectible souls your way (which are items that give a lot of souls when used and don't get lost if you die) to make death even less an issue. And you get plenty of Humanity items too, and I haven't found humanity to be all that useful outside of a few situations.

It sucks to lose 20,000+ souls because you made two mistakes, but you just have to get over it and keep going. It's really a game that teaches you to stop getting so annoyed at failing, because it's inherent to the experience.

Yea this game isn't for everyone. Not everyone is meant to be good at everything. Sometimes you just aren't good enough

I was teasing about Sesame Street, but if you're the type that gets frustrated easily, then this game really probably isn't for you.

I understand your frustrations......but this game is definitely not for everyone. Just like its predecessor, Demons Souls, the whole point of the game is to challenge you to the point of being borderline sadistic.

Since you just bought it new today for full price, I would strongly suggest holding onto it and keep playing it. You said it's fun yet insane. So give it more of a chance before deciding to trade it in, as that would be a serious waste of money. :csad:

who knows.......it may just bring out the inner sadist in you...... :oldrazz:

I agree with just about everything socool said. While I still havent found it to be difficult. Im not a huge fan of the controls. Do you guys use a shield because I dont use a shield at all. Just a bow and a sword

I can't imagine not using a shield, especially one that absorbs 100% of physical damage. I am a shield/spear guy because you can use the R1 spear attack while still blocking, which is infinitely helpful.

I almost always use a shield in Demon's Souls.

Yea I couldnt fathom not using a shield.

What stat do u upgrade to get better with a Bow?

so even if you make a magic-based / spellcaster character, you should use a sword and shield for melee attack and defense?

and how is spellcasting in this game compared to melee? are there some awesome looking and powerful spells in the game?

I beat it! Killed every boss, including optional ones, and am now 1 boss into NG+ (which is much easier than I thought it would be).

Game time was a little over 50 hours, beat it at Soul Level 84. :word:

Holy s**t man. I still haven't left the area with the first Taurus Demon. I'm just soul farming atm. I'm up to level 20 and have 10,000 souls.

You really shouldn't waste too much time farming. As you progress you'll get more than enough souls (and way better farming areas).

At level 20 you should be able to head to the church and take on the gargoyles, which is unfortunately one of the more annoying fights in the game. Have you even made it to the blacksmith? He isn't far from where you are and upgrading your equipment is pretty important.

Also fyi, much later in the game the Taurus Demon becomes a regular enemy. :cwink:
