BvS David S. Goyer IS the Script Writer! - Part 2

Yeah, the script has some problems. A few cheesy lines, some of the edits were a bit jumpy (I always find the interrogation room to desert cut jarring), overly long action setpieces, lack of suspense in the final fight. Man of Steel is a flawed film, but it's not "bad", hasn't it got like 6.5 as the RT rating? And pretty similar on Metacritic? That seems about right.

It's more disappointing than outright bad. I still wouldn't call it a good movie, though.

Sometimes it seems people are expecting perfection. Yeah, the script had problems. I can say the same about any other movie, including the revered Marvel ones.

Just because all movies have problems doesn't mean some aren't better than others. Also: just because some people weren't blown away by MOS doesn't mean they were expecting perfection or aren't capable of letting go of the Reeve movies. Those are two very common (and very annoying) misconceptions that I wish people would stop bringing up.

Nobodies expecting perfection. But if someone doesn't like MOS and lists the script as one of the problems it's probably because it's other aspects couldn't overcome the script problems.

I actually liked MOS quite a bit but that's because I liked many of the other aspects of the movie.

Yeah, it lacked the jokezzz.

I think BvS should go the Marvel route. Make sure you have good looking people telling forced jokes as often as they can. That way nobody is going to pay much attention to the script´s problems.

Myself, Ms. Marvel and The Boy Scout were discussing Man of Steel and what we felt about it's shortcomings.

You brought up Marvel Studios twice and tried to put down their (immensely successful) films, for what purpose?

Oh, make yourself feel better because you're stuck in some childish "us vs them" mentality. You're being pathetic childish and resentful to people who don't care about your opinion, on behalf of people who also don't care about your opinion.

^ And you're being a tad too harsh on him. If people can complain about MOS, people should be able to complain about Marvel. If you don't care about his opinion, then why insult him over it? Just ignore him and talk about what you want to talk about.

I simply gave an example of what BvS should do in order to minimize the hate. Marvel has a formula, wich works quite well, and BvS should do something similar. That way, even if the the plot is weak, people will be distracted by funny and good looking heroes talking about what they had for breakfast. It is, indeed, a formula. And it works. So, why not?

"Even if the plot is weak".

You just can't be subtle, can you? Though I guess sarcasm is harder to convey in a text only medium.

He can go do it in the vast array of boards dedicated to Marvel Studios. This is a board dedicated to Batman Vs Superman.

Back to the topic, Goyer's MOS script isn't as bad as some people make it out to be but I thought the dialogue was a bit off. I liked the plot though.
I love MOS, but a lot of it seemed like placeholder dialogue that wasn't changed.

I don't think they were being harsh.

MOS's script was its major weakness. It prevented it from transcending "good" and becoming "great." It probably shaved about 100-200 million off its gross earnings too.

I don't think they were being harsh.

Not "they." Llama. And yes he was.

I´m sorry. Next time i´m gonna try to be more subtle. I don´t wanna go to jail for thinking most Marvel movies have a weak/average plot!

Hail Hydra!

Do you think Warner Brothers will give you a job as their CEO or something if you say bad things about "the competition"?

No. Do you think Warner Brothers will let you write the script for BvS if you say enough times that MOS´s script had problems?

I don't act like I want the job.

If anything, I have to condescendingly say "good job" for not going for the far more easy dig of saying I'm a Marveldrone.

Btw, i think origin stories always limit a little bit the potential of a movie.

Batman Begins, an origin movie, was not as well received as TDK.

TFA, an origin movie, was not as well received as TWS.

Spider-Man, an origin movie, was not as well received as Spider-Man 2.

Maybe there´s a tendency here.

I also don´t want that job. I just wanna play Batman. Get out of my way.

MoS script has its flaws. Quite a number actually. But if anything, i applaud goyer for at least attempting to be bold and liberal with superman. He aspired for complexity and sophistication but somewhat failed but i cannot fault him for that. After all its better to aim high and fail than aim low and succeed.

While I agree that origin movies tend to take some heat simply for that fact (unless they are the very first origin movie because otherwise people have that "Oh, this again!" reaction even if it has been years), I think MOS's issues stem more from the fact that they tried to cram an origin story in with an alien invasion story. The origin felt too condensed and not fleshed out.
