BvS David S. Goyer IS the Script Writer! - Part 2

I wonder why are they explicitly acknowledging that its basically a complete re-write.

They could have just as easily said Story by Goyer and Screenplay by Terio.

I think the reason is because they had first announced the writers as Story by Snyder and Goyer and screenplay by Goyer. So they didn't want to blatantly contradict themselves so are fully ackonwedlging the rewrite.

Or so it seems.

What was the reason for the re-write? Did Goyer's screenplay suck? Was that the reason the film was delayed. Where is KalMart when you need him?

Elements from the actual screenplay may have been borrowed into the rewrite. That could be a reason why he's getting second billing for screenwriting.

Goyer's Martian Manhunter comments: God do I really hate David Goyer.

it means it not a complete rewrite and that significant elements of Goyer's script remain

Perhaps. For Star Wars Episode VII they have completely thrown out Michael Ardnt' script, and done a page one rewrite. So much so that he is not even getting a story credit.

I would have done the opposite and focused more on the origin. I wanted to see an epic unfolding towards Earth's Greast Protector. It sort of happened, but it was in truncated flashbacks, as opposed to a flowing narrative. However, my vision really ignores the action factor. I can see why they wanted the invasion. A superman movie should have big action. So, while I wanted more origin, I wouldn't want to cut the invasion down. Maybe the movie needed to be longer or divided into two parts or something. I'm not sure.

As for the DP Clark persona...

I really hope they make an effort to have Clark appear different than Superman. That is the beauty (and the point) of him having two identities. They need to be obviously different. If you look at Cavill's performance early in the movie as wandering Clark, he is quiet and meek. That's how I hope he acts as DP Clark. I do not want idiot Clark at all (not a fan of Reeve Clark). For Superman, he should be confident like he was in his scenes with Swanwick. I just want to see that contrast.

Great Minds think alike. :yay:

I think MOS would have been even stronger if it were more of an origin, with Supes donning the costume near the end of the second act.

I only care what Goyer's "opinion" on the characters is because he's the dickweed (or "dicksplash" as he would say) in charge of them.

I wonder if we'll even see Daily Planet Clark Kent in this film, since apparently Goyer also thinks he is stupid.

The less input from Goyer, and Nolan.. The better in my book..

Goyer could simply be given credit due to the fact that he thought Lex was a good idea...

It doesn't mean that scenes will play out, or the stroy will be guided by.. Goyer's input..

And as far as Nolan? Though I am a fan of his work..
In the next film I would like to see the volume knob on the "real" turned down..
And let the volume knob on the "comic book feel and fantasy" turned WAY up..

More fun..
More sarcastic banter and diologue..
More visuals with a sense of style, and much better choreographed fights..
Hand to hand sort of thing..

I thought my opinion of Goyer as a writer couldn't get lower, but then he had to open his mouth. Ugh. Can't stand this guy and the fact that he's basically "The Mind" behind DC's cinematic universe.

Goyer: "Martian Manhunter is silly and stupid, that'd never work. Clark Kent is stupid. "

Meanwhile at Marvel: Bradley Cooper is voicing a talking raccoon with a giant gun. Vin Diesel is playing a tree.

Fire Goyer. Hire someone who believes in the characters.

A raccoon, guys. And a tree. (In space...that can talk - that's either the best or worst idea ever)

We have Gal Gadot.

If they'd cut down on Krypton screen time and focused more on Clark, it definitely would've been more fulfilling.

the podcast cut the Q&A section for another day but as I said the pod cast is a comedy show.

Perhaps if Goyer proclaimed his theories/jokes on the Kevin Smith podcast they would be better received. Unfortunately he didn't, so now fans will do that thing...

I personally like the idea of dropping the 'martian' from manhunter. Alot of characters do it in the books when not calling him j'onn.
"Martian" who know people loved that adage to much. As if removing it takes away the fact that he's a martian.

David Goyer is the cinematic equivalent of Geoff Johns - just like Johns is the architect of the DCU in the comics, Goyer is the architect of the DCU in the film world.

If people actually took a few moments to listen to that podcast Goyer was on, you would know it wasn't in a serious nature. Gotta love the SHH overreaction. :D

My only other experience with the Scriptnotes podcast was when they interviewed the screenwriter/co-director of Frozen last year, and that episode wasn't a comedy but an interesting look into the making of that movie. Maybe some other episodes lean more towards humor but I wouldn't exactly call it a comedy show.

Anyways, those comments by Goyer are just , even if it was for comedy he still sounds like a huge *****e...

If it involves DC/Goyer/Snyder, it's the only way to react.

How is that Malificent film with Angelina Jolie looking? Is it getting good reviews?

I ask because Paul Dini was involved in writing the film.

I wasn't expecting it to be a comedy show type pod cast but it's more for the laughs than imparting information
