In the director commentary track for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rupert Wyatt said it symbolizes freedom and "home" to Caesar. He spent a lot of time looking through that window into the outside world, so it makes sense. Wyatt also said the idea was for the apes to adopt it as a symbol of their revolution, and it would be cool to see it adorn flags or banners in future movies.

Love the two year wait instead of three!

It will still probably end up with a longer production time than the first film had. That movie was cranked out.

The explore feature on the site is cool. Love the mood of the environments.

I think it's safe to assume that at some point either Ceasar dies or excepts the fact that they cannot co-exist with humans.

I'd imagine Fox wants to milk this as long as possible but I kind of want the structure of a planned story with a fixed ending.

What old days were those? Staged set pics have found their way into film magazines and publications for decades. None the least a ton from the old Planet of the Apes films.

Here's a new pic. I love how even with all the mocap going on, they still went out and built what looks like an extensive set. The onset mocap work is really what sets Serkis' work apart.
