with all this talk about popularity and all, is there any list of biggest selling Marvel comics of last year?
Would like to see what heroes sold the most, and if some Xmen comics made the top 10

X-Men always does well with comics.

It's a shame that the movies don't get more tie-ins and merchandising these days.

so this is general list, mmm, that makes it even better. Interesting that Avengers doesnt appear on the top 10, and Guardians are at #4.

Is there a way to learn the actual sales? or the companies dont use to tell it?

Yeah, GOTG is huge in comics right now. They just had a crossover with All New X-Men too since they are both written by Bendis.

Avengers and All New X-Men #1 came out the year before so they are on that list since the lower numbers don't sell as high as 1's in 2013.

Uncanny Avengers 1, Avengers Vs X-Men, Amazing Spidey final issue, Avengers 1 and All New X-Men 1 were the best selling Marvel of 2012.

yeah, I was just reading the 2012 list and noticed how there is one only X-Men tittle in top 50 (appart from AvX) Not a good look, if u ask me

Nah it's fine, mostly all DC. DC had the jump with New 52. Marvel and X-Men were going through multiple reboots and then the first phase of Marvel Now that started around OCt/NOV. Avengers Vs X-Men, All New and Uncanny Avengers were very X-Men focused. Deadpool ranks pretty high as well. Had the 49th highest selling comic book of that year. That's insane!

New 52 was huge at launch the previous year though, so that's really why there wasn't much Marvel in the top 50 in 2012 minus AVSX.

All New X-Men #1 sold more then Uncanny X-Men #1 in comparison. They were pretty much pulling around the same sells for their launch even though the top rank #s were not the same.

Cap is prominently featured in the awful Avengers Assemble cartoon on Disney XD

Then for the other stuff like apparel, toys, costumes, home goods (LOL seriously?), unless you have a source for that, then I'll agree what with you are saying.

Home goods are blankets, sheets comforters, decor, kitchen ware. Look for them at Marvel.com and most major retailers.
 
X-men comics generally outsells Superman comics, and lately I can think of more X-men series put on TV than Superman ones (although honestly, I'm not paying attention to that part) but Superman is one of the most recognized fictional characters on the planet, PERIOD. My point is, it doesn't matter how much X-men out sells him, he is vastly more well known to the GP, thus cartoons, comic sells do not give an instant win over another character who doesn't sell as much.

We should not assume because of numerous X-Men comics and cartoons that the X-Men at this point in time is bigger than Cap to the GP, even if their books are outselling his 2 to 1, because then GP overall doesn't care. They may not buy any of his comics, but they recognize who he is.

X-Men IMO at this point in its move life cycle should only be looked at as competing with itself, because if you are going to assume it's going to leave Cap2 in the dust and far surpassing it, there is a solid chance you can end up disappointed. IMO if it makes in the same ballpark that's a great success for the X-franchise, but again that's my opinion.

What about movies? Adjusted X3 made more then MOS and Superman Returns domestically.

Depends what's relevant at the time to audiences. All this depends on alot of things, something new could jump in at any time and overpower them both. X-Men could potentially out sell everyone in any format. Just like Cap, Iron Man, Bats, Supes or Spidey could. Numbers change all the time for various reasons.

Right. You should not always go by what you think is the most popular superhero as the definite money maker over another hero because if that was true, Superman would absolute kill everything in front of him as he is hands down the most recognized hero and obviously he does not beat every hero in the Box office.

How much money do you think Days of Future Past needs to make for Fox for them to be happy with the results.

I personally think anything over 600 million would be good, and anything over 750 million would make Fox more confident in the franchise(not saying they aren't now).
 
I think they will be happy with at least $500 million.

I don't think Fox was disappointed when X3 earned $459 million worldwide and they had a budget of $200 million for that movie.

And the good thing is even if DOFp underperforms, they already greenlighted two upcoming X-Men movies. Yes, they could scrap it but I don't think they will.

I think that number is a bit high for domestic given the past two films. But it's nowhere near unreachable for X-Men. Last Stand pretty much made that domestic number adjusted without 3D, and The Wolverine was less then $200 mil away from that international #. The marketing, release date, scale and characters should easily be able to out top that past $400 international wise.

$250 Domestic and $500 internationl seems a bit more likely imo. If domestic hits closer to $300m I would be very surprised.

The film has a lot of good stuff to back it up, coming off 2 well received movies previous movies, the big names of the OT and FC cast being involved aswell as being In 3D, But I will say internet hype is always going to seem bigger because it's where the most vocal are, many predicted MOS could crack a billion because of the hype
 
Predictions on here have seemed pretty reasonable though, even with the most hyped fans. Most seem to think $600-700m ww. Very few expecting a billion is gonna happen.

That is quite the prediction!

I think I'll stay in line with my prediction I made last year and say it'll have a $135 million 4 day opening. My Captain America's numbers were way too high, but I think the chances of a +$100 million gross across the Memorial Day holiday are great. Fox has done an excellent job with the trailers. Now... for the rest of the marketing, unleash a fury that this world has never witnessed!
 
That 4-day seems too high, something closer $110M seems more likely.
