BoxofficeMojo Isn't a bunch of X-men fanboys. They were quite on the mark with the wolverine. Even Boxoffice.com has DOFP with a 108 4 day opening weekend and 230 million domestic gross.

Box Office Mojo doesn't need to be a fanboy to be wrong.(if it is) And Boxoffice.com 's prediction is very reasonable and by the looks of it is on par with several of the predictions stated here. Notice that the one suggested by Box Office Mojo is quite far away. However, the domestic forecast he has suggested for North America is at the upper-end of the estimated range.

I predict....

The thing is over here in the UK there has hardly been any adverts, trailers for Godzilla or Edge of Tomorrow so far. Godzilla has got some good buzz I know States side but over here nobody has heard much about it, nobody I know who are casual cinema goers have even mentioned it. All trailers before films have been heavily Xmen focused.

That may of course change as we get closer to release but at the moment Xmen has a free hit it seems.

There was an edge of tomorrow Trailer & DOFP trailer with ASM2 but no Godzilla.

EOT was really confusing, they die then come back and redo that event and continue and if they die they can redo stuff?

I do agree that Box Office Mojo's prediction is on the higher end of the spectrum. I think the final domestic take will be closer to what BoxOffice.com has speculated around 230MM.

Yeah its odd, Xmen has certainly got their trailers out there more I have noticed in the cinema more than any other film for May.

Sure it can change and they might start getting Godzilla out more but it seems a little late now if its not attached to ASM2 not many will see a trailer before its release.

Word of mouth however might make a big impact and reviews of course is maybe what they are relying on, heck I am yet to see a poster for it even in the two cinemas I visit regularly come to think of it.

My theatre had DOFP popcorn buckets using The teaser poster images. Little advert for anyone who buys popcorn :)

Hoping mine has them next weekend when I see Spidey.

The biggest challenge it seems DOFP faces is doing well domestically rather than overseas, that seems to be the area that the last two outings FC and TW suffered the most neither getting above $150m in the US. Overseas TW did pretty well but for DOFP to do better than say AMS2 it needs a really strong domestic haul this time.

how would you react if Dofp breaks 500m overseas? or even 600?
I know many people dont see it, but what if that happens?

That would be great, if it happens and then full steam ahead with Apocolypse but to get to that level it will need rave reviews and WOM its not like this is coming off the back of a great run.

On the plus side though Fox are really pushing the boat out in terms of promotion of this movie. There is stuff everywhere now including promotional stuff in Supermarkets, TV spots, trailers and this Xmen global experience will have a lot of star power to draw on with the likes of Fassbender, MacCavoy, Jackman, Lawerence etc etc going all over the world to promote it, it should get more attention than FC or TW did, then it will of course depend on how good the actual film is!

yeah, the WOM is key, and if the movie is as good as it seems, I feel like the Wom will be good and bigger than old movies.
About the ww promo, yeah, these multiple premieres all over the world will play a factor, leading to plenty of interviews by the cast on each contry. I hope Fox pushes more for theatre standees and posters and billboards on the streets, and not just USA.

Yeah this certainly feels a little bit more like an "event" movie than the last two outings, although they were a lot smaller in terms of production cost etc.

There's not going to be a shortage of advertising for this film thats for certain:cwink::up:

I'll be paying special attention to UK and Mexico numbers, since Ive been checking superhero numbers of latest years and XMen movies have worked pretty well on these countries.

Many fans have always said that Spiderman is much bigger and popular than XMen ww, and thats true, but if we compare UK numbers of Amazing Spiderman and XMen trilogy, they are not that far:

UK:
- The Amazing Spiderman 2011: $40,286,388
- X-Men: The Last Stand 2006: $36,087,617
- X2 - 2003: $34,125,442

Pretty close, right? If the old Xmovies were able to do 34 and 36m, just imagine what Dofp could do with the two casts, sentinels and 3D. I think 40m are guaranteed, but I feel it could do even more, around 50m or so.

We'll find out the opening weekend and what increase it has compared to old movies ow.

UK is such a huge market and I think that is why they have had big promotions in UK like the train. Which was awesome. If X-Men were making those numbers back then in UK I don't see why it wouldn't be making nearly 50million now.

yeah, and more if we take into account that many movies use to reach 70, 80 and even 90m on there, including latest huge hits like Dark Knight and Avengers.

If those movies were able to get that high, Dofp has the potential and marketing to get a bit close. 90m sounds too awesome to happen, but... who knows? maybe it gets 60 or 70m. lets see what happens :D

Yeah I think DOFP first aim is to get back to the levels of X2 and Last Stand, $35m should be achievable considering The Wolverine got $22m alone with little promotion and off the back of a poorly received first outing generally.

$50m would be nice but I think that it will need strong reviews and WOM to get to that figure, but lets hope it does!!

Will DOFP be going to Cannes this year? If my google search is right that happens May 14-19 (?)

IIRC X-men The Last Stand opened Cannes the year it was released. That was such a wasted opportunity...

You should be paying more attention to the Chinese market. That is where all the money is coming from. DOFP should rake in more than $60 million.

I read somewhere that XMen could get released in China on August along with Guardians and Maleficent, so if it ends being true, it will hurt XMen numbers big time :(

On other hand, after comparing X3, Fc and TW foreign numbers, I realized that the biggest numbers will come more than likely from:

UK
Brazil
Mexico
France/South Corea

and in this order, possibly
