My theater was filled, every damn seat. It's gonna be huge folks.

I have no idea what good numbers even look like anymore haha that 8.1 million could be awful for all I know haha

I'd say it's pretty damn good. No IMAX and showings didn't begin until 10 PM, a few hours later than recent films.

The amazing Spider-man 2 just barely beat it on midnight screening but i think SPider-man
started earlier and had Imax showings.

It doubled the midnight take of the wolverine and also beat the midnight record of Last fast and furious film.

Winter Soldier and Godzilla got higher numbers on midnight screenings.

Box Office: ‘X-Men’ Nabs Stellar $8.1M In Late Night Thursday Opening
By ANITA BUSCH | Friday May 23, 2014 @ 8:06am

20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the seventh film in the franchise, grossed $8.1M in 2,900 theaters last night, a fantastic start and catapulting it forward into the holiday weekend for an expected gross of $100M for the 4-day as Sunday should bring in stronger numbers going into this Memorial Day holiday. The film also simultaneously started its overseas theatrical bow in 100 countries, including China, which is having a stellar 2014.

The screenings for X-Men domestically began at 10 PM, and X-Men — while not in IMAX theaters — still is on 352 large-format screens. Although not having the franchise play on IMAX usually shaves a bit off the top, last weekend those screens accounted for $8.4M of Godzilla‘s total gross, led by Cinemark on 96 runs which took in 96% of that business.

Meanwhile, X-Men also has built huge momentum across the social media universe over the past 30 days. Star Hugh Jackman (who portrays the ever-popular Wolverine) is the social superhero with 15M Facebook fans and 4M Twitter followers who are apparently engaging heavily with movie still posts and talk show mentions. Both Ian McKellen’s 1M Twitter and Patrick Stewart’s 1.2M FB fans are also engaged, while Jennifer Lawrence and Halle Berry’s domestic and international superfans channels are also spreading the word. Yes, it is a star-packed franchise which cannot be overlooked. Others in the film include James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, and Chinese (and a favorite in that country) actress Fan Bingbing.

Superfans and movie channels continue to post X-Men YouTube clips, according to RelishMix CEO Marc Karzen, “at super-human rates and logs an earned/owned ratio of 15 to 1 which shows us high intent (for ticket buyers) to line up this weekend.”

The franchise took over London’s West End last night in the X-crossing of Oxford Square, beaming 3D stills into the center of the square, lighting up during the 18-second crossing times. The public installation is in a heavy shopping area and one where about 500,000 people pass through daily, making it one of the busiest interchanges in all of Europe.

I think Winter Soldier started at 8pm and had IMAX as well.

That's not good right? Hopefully it excels on Fri to Sun/Mon, come to think of it the midnight screening started at 10 pm

It's a little lower than TASM2 and 2M lower than CA: TWS. But it's also about 2M higher than FF6 last year.

I think that's actually pretty good considering it does not have IMAX and only 10pm or later showings. Most of the other movies on that list had IMAX and 7-8pm showings as well as 10+pm showings.

It's actually very good. DOFP had no IMAX screenings and it had later showtimes for the first showings...and still managed to earn almost as much opening night as Godzilla and Cap 2 (which both had IMAX).

The movie's in good shape for the weekend.

I hope so...I just want it to be the BE$T in the X-Men franchise :yay:

I'd be really sad if TLS will beat DOFP in terms of $ :csad:

To be fair to the last stand it was coming off of x2 which is still seen as one of the best so of course it was going to have a huge box office and it had virtually no competition back then :)

:o @ Fox not releasing in IMAX and starting at 10 instead of earlier.

And the first two of those had IMAX screens to help with that.

IMAX was most likely booked, I know Warner Bros. has a deal with IMAX to release a certain amount of movies in the format per year as well as Disney and DreamWorks Animation.

I was gonna ask, is there a particular reason the X-films arent IMAX?

But CA:TWS started at 8pm on Thursday, and Godzilla started at 7pm. Yes, and they both had IMAX screening as well.
OTOH, DoFP's Thursday screening only started at 10pm. I still think $150m is still in the cards over the 4 day period.

To add, DoFP has a "super human" social media buzz of 16:1 (which indicates high intent of buying tix). The ratios of CA:TWS and Godzilla were 10:1 and 9:1 respectively.

I wish they'd do IMAX.

I noticed my theater has far fewer 3D showings, which is actually a good thing. It won't turn away as many people who don't want to sit through the 3D.
