Also, next week Maleficent comes out. I bet all of the experts predict that Maleficent will dethrone DOFP.

For Example. It's doing well. Started 3 hours later than Godzilla and 2 hours later than ASM2 and CAP2.

It probably would have matched or exceeded Captain America if it had 7-8pm showings as well.

The experts are predicting Transformers 4 will be the summer's biggest film.

That's pretty much the only billion dollar movie I see of 2014 so far. At least until the Hobbit 3 comes out.

There were so many more showings after 10 for X-Men though. Godzilla only had like 3 tops fro the preview night all around in my area. DOFP was playing every half hour in 2D and 3D from 10 to midnight.

That said, it was extremely more crowded for X-Men. Multiple lines all around my theatre and tons of people waiting.

Wonder if Mockingjay will come close to 1 billion.

I kind of doubt it. Maybe the 2nd part as they are breaking it into two pieces, but the international audience just hasn't been there for the last two films.

More of family friendly film that one. DOFP does have cursing, some bare faced cheeks:O and some pretty dark themes and violence in comparison will put off some families.

Ticket seller Fandango surveyed more than 1,000 moviegoers (a small sampling, but interesting nonetheless) and found that 82% are looking forward to seeing X-Men Apocalypse so the fans get their first hint of it on this film. Fandango also found that 76%of those going to this film are motivated by Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence (no surprise there) starring in this one, and 65% are planning to see it with a group of friends. All good. The studio has a lot to celebrate on their on-the-lot X-Men day today.

The international audience jumped over 50% between HG1 and HG2. It remains to be seen if it can keep growing or will it stabilize.

Skyfall also had a big jump from previous movie too, right? not sure about the %

wow x-men totally got screwed...

Godzilla took up all of the imax 3d screens...and maleficent will take over next weeks imax screens

i read it accounted for like 20% of its midnight show $...

not only that but godzilla had 7pm showtimes every 30min til midnight.

x-mens showtimes started at 10pm... this was the most half assed release for what could be the biggest movie of the summer. Im no expert but wtf was Fox thinking?

Friday Update #1: Sources tell BoxOffice that X-Men: Days of Future Past is trending for an opening day in the $38-40 million range based on early matinees and pre-sales. Should the pace hold, Fox's tentpole mutant sequel would top Godzilla's $38.4 million as the best opening day of the year so far. The extended holiday weekend skews projections somewhat with Sunday essentially behaving like a second Saturday. Still, based on past Memorial Day performers and considering the strong buzz for the pic, the X-Men sequel looks on target for a three-day weekend north of $95 million and a four-day haul that could reach $115 million.

It's a lot of lost potential income. I think most of the people here would have wanted to see it in IMAX.

Went to pick up my tickets for the 5:00PM showing (AMC Theatres is 5 minutes from my house) and the parking lot is getting filled up. Not as filled as they were for last night, but I imagine it's going to be packed once kids get off school. Soooooo excited! I've been avoiding spoilers these last few weeks and the pay off is finally here.

That isn't exactly how it works. The extra showings spread the crowd out more then add a vast amount of people.

I thought she wasn't a draw. I thought the original cast was the draw. :funny:

While awesome, I do believe it is the 4 day estimate.

I will go ahead and say it: How to Train Your Dragon 2 will make more than Transformers 4. It definitely will internationally, but possibly in the U.S. Audiences tend to get tired by fourth installments, and even more so if there is a lot of recasting (see Spidey, Pirates, and even XFC for more). I'm not saying TF4 won't make a ton of money. But I think it will struggle to cross $300 million U.S.

I also will say that after Frozen's wild success, I could see Big Hero 6 blindsiding everyone. Or not. It is still a shot in the dark with WDAS. But that makes it fun.

I can't wait for How to Train Your Dragon 2...

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is surging at the Friday box office with initial tracking suggesting it could hit between $36 million and $39 million in its first full day of release.
There’s a range of numbers out there, but some estimates suggest that the picture could hit $120 million over the four-day Memorial Day holiday. Others are more conservative, predicting a debut of roughly $105 million.

The buzz with How to Train Your Dragon 2 is fantastic. It is coming off a beloved film. But the content could keep parents and kids away from frequent viewings.
