Oh I don't agree in the slightest. If this movie fails it could be any combination of these reasons -
1. If it's bad. The critics hate it. Word of mouth is venomous. Etc.
2. If one of the three superhero movies in this 7 week stretch was going to fail and X-Men drew the short straw
3. That, after seven entries in the franchise, people are sick of the X-Men.
4. That the GA has moved on from the X-Men, especially since it's been so long since the X-Men "they" know
5. The Marketing, that so many outlets have been (rightfully) critical of really hampers excitement.
or, and this is what I had in mind when I said they may have to consider a reboot if it fails -
6. People associate this version of the X-Men with last decade. The leather, the dark silver and blue tones, even the cast. The last 6 years have been dominated by Marvel's, for good or bad, house style of embracing the costumes and settings in a house style kind of way.
Also, this is a bit worrisome

Spoilers...it's bad news bears for X-Men
Your username leads me to be unsurprised by this posting. Let's not toll the bells of doom just yet.
Ignoring the fanboy 'my franchise is bigger than yours' mentality and all the warring groups that exist online (a waste of time, just watch the movies or don't), there are several things Fox needs to do in my view.
It might help to market at least some things in ways other than by using 'X-Men:' in the title. Marvel Studios doesn't keep using 'Marvel's' in the title, Bond movies don't keep saying 'James Bond:' in the title. It helps keeps projects feeling fresh and different. X-Force and The Wolverine are steps in the right direction (even though I thought The Wolverine a bit of a dull title), Deadpool should be called just that.
Also, the entire year should be an option for releasing, especially when you have gained a reputation for doing solid movies (Fox might not be at that stage yet, it's trying hard to get there though). Captain America just proved that March/April can work well, Lord of the Rings proved that Christmas releases can do well. People will come if the quality is there. Not that I think CA:TWS as stupendously amazing as many others, but I don't argue with the critical consensus or opening weekend.
And, yes, we need consistently good X-Men movies with an overarching vision. I've been saying this since the year dot.
I do agree that more colour and 'real-world' setting would be good too. As well as swerving closer to the source material rather than going away from it.
There will always be X-Men movies in some form, it's too rich a property. Let's see if Fox can rise to the challenge. DoFP is a massive step in the right direction and, even if people are wary about the main content of DoFP itself, it's rumoured resetting of the timeline to fix things and allow a proper 'first class' should please many people.
