DC Animated - Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

Yeah, if they're going to do any animated spinoff of something that was live action, I'd love to see an animated version of Tim Burton's Batman 3. :awesome::up:

I'm prepared to take heat for this but I think that the proposed live-action Justice League movie could be adapted to animation.

It might actually be good in animation... without all that God-awful sounding casting.

I love these animated movies. With Smallville ending after Season 10 they should do an animated Justice League show in the Smallville Universe ?

I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but there was an animated motion comic that aired during commercial breaks during season six of Smallville called Smallville Legends: Justice & Doom:

From "b. t."... ;)

Meh now i'm abit worried they're changing the adaption. I REALLY want to see Wonder Woman, Artemis, Big Barda and the Female furies. Show some badass action FEMALE characters. :word::word:

Hell yeah!! With Billy Dee Williams voicing Two-Face!!

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse hasn't been officially announced by WBA in a press release yet, so none of the staff or cast can actually talk about it. We're very fortunate that someone did come here today and speak cryptically about it and basically confirm Wonder Woman for us.

But now he'll have to worry about a black nondescript van driving past him and mowing him down with Uzis. :oldrazz: :cwink: :woot:

Aaah i get it. He knows we've seen the cover, but he can't officially confirm its an adaption, but commonn sense tells us it is a adaption... Even if loosely, so Diana should be in it.

This is Outrageous! :awesome:

Yeah where on earth did you hear it was being cancelled?

Anyway... this movie is certainly starting to shape up and I actually have some confidence in it :yay:

Summer Glau is SUPERGIRL in S/B Apocalypse!!! :wow: :awesome: :woot:

As if Summer Glau hadn't already cemented her status as a fanboy favorite, the actress is about to go up, up and away to a new level with the sci-fi set. The Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star is providing the voice for Supergirl in the upcoming animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (out September 28 on DVD, Blu-ray, on demand and digital download). In the film, the latest in a Warner Bros.-produced series based on popular DC Comics stories, Glau plays Superman's cousin Kara, a mysterious survivor of the doomed planet Krypton who shows up on Earth. Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as Superman and Batman, respectively, from the characters' animated series in the '90s and a previous DC movie, last year's Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.

Apocalypse is based on a 2004 comic book arc, written by former Heroes producer Jeph Loeb, which reintroduced Supergirl into the DC Comics universe. "I thought in the comic that Jeph Loeb had done a really good job of sticking to the basics of the origin story, but putting enough twists on it to give it a fresh feel," says executive producer Bruce Timm, widely considered the dean of superhero animation. Unlike the rocket that brought her cousin to Earth, Kara's pod was delayed in its arrival, leaving her in suspended animation until landing. When she wakes up she is not terribly happy to learn that Earth's yellow sun gives her powers far beyond those of mortal women. "Early on in the story she just wants to fit in," Timm says. "Unlike most people who suddenly attain superpowers, she's terrified of them. She doesn't want to shoot lasers out of her eyes and be able to lift buildings with her pinky."

Glau, an animation novice who is the fifth Serenity star Timm has worked with (following Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Gina Torres and Morena Baccarin), quickly got a handle on the role. "It was a fun part for her to play because it wasn't one-note," Timm says. "She could be young and bratty, like a typical teenager, and then show a little bit more maturity, then get feisty, then scared. She's got quite a gamut of emotions to act out."

Oooh, and that's the first image from the movie too (the cover doesn't count). Those who aren't really a fan of Michael Turner's work should be pleased, it doesnt look like they're sticking too close to his designs. I dont have a problem with Turner's art, but I think that Supergirl design looks good.

Michael Turner's women we're too slim. I kinda hope the style is inspired by Turner, but it seems they're going with Lauren's style. She is the director, right? :)

Yup, Registration and rating for the sneak peak feature on the Red Hood DVD. Confirms that Lauren Montgomery is the director for the movie.

she is and she's great when it comes to DC female characters and this particular comic story is based on has tons of 'em as you previously enumerated. :woot: :awesome:

Ah but Wonder Woman didn't sell as much as Batman so no female superhero projects will ever come to fruition ever again ;)

I'm happy about Summer, I still think the use of Supergirl in the package is stupid. DC are reissuing all their Turner 'Supergirl' TPBs and merch under her name but the movie isn't in that name.

Well marketing wise "Superman|Batman: Apocalypse" just sounds flatout better. Apocalypse is this immersively dangerous thing, so it gives this "epic" feeling that everyone wants these days. Everything has to be epic these days. <_<

Looks like you might have another SG to add to your av :cwink:

And from that SG image, it looks like they found a good mix of Turners art so I am fine with it. His full style doesnt really work for animation.

Yeah but this division was not made for this, and we do get the shorts and have gotten Wonder Woman(Original) Green Lantern:First Flight(Original) Gotham Knights(Original). So I mean you can say you want Original all you want but those are three lowest selling DTV's, so what does that say?

Hasnt WW surpassed JL:Frontier sales? They already made back the budget and then some. WB just wants fast sellers which no hero is going to be besides Supes/bats. And they only have themselves to blame.

It doesn't say much because the originality factor really hasn't much to do with it. Wonder Woman was obviously not popular enough but it is regarded as the best DCU movie so far. Green Lantern overall just wasn't really good to be honest and DC thought Green Lantern would be more popular. And uhhh...Batman: Gotham Knight was the highest selling one other than Superman: Doomsday....

I was wrong with Gotham Knight but Wonder Woman being a low seller DOES show that the WB doesnt care how highly regarded a story is in these DTV's as long as the bottom line isnt good enough they will not invest in a lesser known name or experiment for a while.

Not true about Gotham Knight, that's the second-highest grossing DVD behind Superman Doomsday.

Yeah thanks, my wires must have gotten crossed.

I'm not saying this is fact or the exact reason why the Wonder Woman and Green Lantern animated films didn't sell well but I bet they would have done better if they came out after live action films.

As everyone knows WB has been lagging on getting the DC properties other than Batman and Superman, made into live movies. I bet most of the GA doesn't really know who Green Lantern is and Wonder Woman has been out of the loop for so long i'm also willing to bet a lot of younger generations aren't as familiar with her yet compared to past generations.

I think your right on, I mean you can say they are using these films to test the waters but thats just to help you sleep at night. In the end if they were using these flciks to do that very thing then why would Superman and Batman have so many devoted to them? Really I think the future of the DTV's and DC in general relies on the sole sucess of the GL Motion Picture. Jonah Hex bombed with The Losers if people want more DC you have to SHOW UP and buy the ticket or BUY the DVD.

As of this point:

WW- $5,762,280
JL:NF- $5,214,510
GL:FF- $5,483,371
S/B:PE- $6,946,973
JL:C2E- 2.7 mill(as of Feb2010)

So WW is still doing good.

It's too bad New Frontier didn't make more, since I consider it to be the best of the DTVs.
