DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 10

This is confusing to me cause Lobo was recently in the "new" nu Stormwatch sporting a look similar to his classic one

I haven't read Stormwatch since Cornell left but does the new "reset" Stormwatch operate within it's own bubble independent of the New 52 DCU or something?

The villain month issue is about that Lobo fighting the new one.

Oh I see. Thanks for clarifying. I think they should've just introduced a brand new czarnian with the "new Lobo" look instead if that's the case. Then again that would prevent them from marketing this "LOBO VS LOBO" gimmick.

They claim that the Lobo that actually looks like Lobo is a fake impostor Lobo. They also state that the new "real" Lobo is a super cereal grimdark assassin.

So... they completely missed the point. Lobo is now a stock anti-hero. I don't even give a crap about Lobo, and that still frustrates me.

Again, we don't know the context or... Pretty much anything really. Just that classic Lobo and this Lobo are fighting and they're different. We don't know if there will be some kind of thematic comparison or what. Or maybe this new Lobo is a parody of current comics trends in the same way Lobo was a parody of XTREEEEEME comics trends. He's already got the reboot part down.

In a letter posted to his website today, JH Williams III has announced that he and co-writer W. Haden Blackman have quit Batwoman due to editorial interference. He cites being blocked from telling several stories he wanted to tell as being the reason for leaving – most crucially that DC told him that he would not be allowed to show Batwoman’s wedding to her girlfriend.

Their last issue will be issue #26.

Blackman also has the statement on his website. In the statement, they write:

Unfortunately, in recent months, DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series. We were told to ditch plans for Killer Croc’s origins; forced to drastically alter the original ending of our current arc, which would have defined Batwoman’s heroic future in bold new ways; and, most crushingly, prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married.

All of these editorial decisions came at the last minute, and always after a year or more of planning and plotting on our end.

The claim about the gay wedding being shuttered is going to be a very controversial topic over the next few days, I would imagine. On twitter Williams has suggested DC were more worried about the word ‘wedding’ than about the word ‘gay’. The character has been openly gay since the start, and plans to wed her to her long-term partner Maggie Sawyer had been in place within the series for the last few months.

DC have had a fair-constant wave of creators leaving their titles over the last few years, many – like Rob Liefeld – citing editorial interference in their work. Batwoman was one of their more acclaimed series, however, and it’ll be interesting to see if DC continue the series onwards now neither of her original creative team are on the project, as Greg Rucka left DC for similar reasons just prior to the New 52 launching.

Good ol'DC....

Mysti will not be pleased. Heck... I'm not pleased.

Apparently Bendis has already been extending a open palm to JH Williams III on Twitter saying he is one of the best in the industry and telling him to "reach out when your ready".

Lets all pray for Mysti now shall we?

Oh DC... Why don't you just let Geoff Johns write EVERYTHING. :o

It is sad that while Batwoman is (or, technically was) the best book offered by DC, it was constantly being punished. It was bad enough Amy Reeder left, but, Williams' departure does not bode well for the book.

Huh, I must not have been paying attention. I didn't realize Reeder left.

I SO badly want to see a Williams III drawn Daredevil or Iron Fist book.

This seems unfortunate but doesn't affect my reading list.

On one hand I am quite pleased because I am already popping the popcorn for Mysti's reaction and Williams off the book now gives me a reason to drop it and my wallet will thank me. On the other hand, I'm quite miffed because DC has been treating this book like crap and Maggie and Kate feel natural if they got married.

We should start a pool on which writer is going to walk next from DC due to editorial

I honestly cannot believe the stupidity coming out of DC over the past few years. It's like they're TRYING to make stupid decisions.

I just don't see the sense in not wanting them married. They hardly interact with the rest of the DCU anyway.

As for who could walk next I think Manapul could soon be up for grabs.

I think marrying them would be fine, but you know happiness doesn't last in the Bat-verse. Kate marrying Maggie would eventually lead to Maggie's death or a divorce of some sort.

And the more I think about Williams leaving the book... I'm conflicted. He has a fantastic grasp on the characters, but his writing needs work. He's a great idea man but he drags out his stories horribly. If we can get someone who is just as good an idea man but more concise in their writing I think the book would be better off for it, but I have a feeling we aren't going to get that. And the book will always feel off without his pencils. But like I said before, at least we've bled away from that already.

Eh I stopped reading that series 2 storylines ago so no skin off my hide.

My money's on Azzarello. Wonder Woman really hasn't touched on any events outside her own book. It's only a matter of time until DC decides to do something about that.
