DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 3

The JLA formed five years ago but superheroes have been around longer than that

I trust in Morrison and the changes aren't gonna bother me for the first arc since its pretty much an origin thing but after that if he (presumably) starts writing stories taking place in the present, I dunno. And now I'm really on the fence for Perez' Superman. Really wanted to like that book but now...

I'll probably check Superman out as well as Action Comics. Hopefully despite some of these changes the stories are still going to be good and Superman's going to be written well in both series

yeah, Jimmy has some awesome potential as a character. His backup was awesome, so I hope he gets enough on-panel time to shine.

still bummed that there's no mention of Raven.........at all.

she's one character whose origin/backstory I would have liked to see rebooted.

I'm sure that Raven will show up eventually  maybe later on in Teen Titans

As for Jimmy Olsen I hope he still has the bow tie after this relaunch. Bow ties are cool

If they're going to update Jimmy Olsen for the modern day, they might as well use the Earth One revamp they gave the character. If there is one character who has aged horribly, it's Jimmy.

I would be fine with that. But I am tired of seeing him as the young boy with freckles that looks like he is from the 50s constantly.

He could dress the way he's always dressed. Just call him a hipster.

Also, Bow-ties are cool.

I was just reading Earth One a bit ago, I loved Jimmy in it. I agree, that'd be nice to see. Are they still planning on making a volume 2 of Earth One?

Wow the Superman changes sound absolutely ******ed. So how is Connor here then? I'm going souly off the IGN information.

Probably as a result of the events of AC 2 where Supes gets kidnapped, only you know, five to 10 years later.

Huh, apparently I was wrong about Action Comics taking place earlier than Justice League. So if Superman has only been active for five years, then that must mean Batman precedes him by several years... Unless they really are screwing with Batman's timeline, which just seems impossible considering they're trying to keep the characters intact--and it's a bad idea, to boot.

Yeah, I take it you saw that asinine conversation I was just having with that dude in the Superman thread.

I really don't get why people are all over Jimmy in EO. Did I miss something, because honestly, he didn't strike me as some kind of amazing reinvention of the character or anything. Personally, I thought Jimmy in the recent AC back-ups was a lot better, or even in ASS.

Don't get me wrong. I love Jimmy. And I thought that his back up strip in Action Comics was one of the best things to come out last year. Nick Spencer's Jimmy Olsen really showed off how much old fashioned charm the character has.

However, if you're going to give the Superman mythos a modern update, Jimmy is going to be one of the first things to get changed. Because even though Jimmy is an incredibly charming character, he's still a character that is horribly out of date. No one wears bow ties anymore. No on acts like Jimmy anymore. And most of all, no one likes gingers. Superman: The Animated Series gave him a major update to reflect the late 90's. Superman: Earth One did the same to reflect the modern era, and if you're going to update Jimmy to reflect the modern era, he's probably going to look a lot like the Jimmy from Superman: Earth One.

Well, yeah, if we're talking about purely aesthetically, I guess so, but what do you mean by saying he hasn't evolved at all? I really can't think of anything recently that makes him stick out to me as so out dated that he can't be applied in some way to a modern story.

The asinine conversation in the superman thread about how every bodies histories are gonna get crammed into 5 years ever since DiDio said that Action Comics only takes place 5 years ago which would put it around the same time or shortly before Justice League.

Yep Jimmy was fab in both of those and I loved the Action Comics stories starring Jimmy just as much as the ones starring Lex

Well, they won't be able to avoid the questions at Comic-Con, so I guess we'll figure out how the whole mess is supposed to work then. Best case scenario at this point, I guess, is that Batman precedes Superman and remains on a 10-15 year timeline.

Either that, or Didio mispoke and Action doesn't line up with JL. That seems pretty unlikely, though.

Incidentally, we've been talking about how some feel a total reboot would have been better, and that got me thinking. When Final Crisis was on the horizon, one of the many rumours was that Connor, Dick, and Donna would replace Clark, Bruce, and Diana--I'm curious as to whether people would have preferred that (A DCU Next Generation, basically) over this quasi-reboot, or a total reboot.

I wouldnt mind a story where the sidekicks of the major heroes took over from them for a while but I probably wouldn't want it to be permanent

It was when I tried to explain the time difference between Action Comics and Justice League aloud that I realized how dumb the partial reboot sounds. That said, the casual readership would probably be confused if it was a full reboot or a next gen DC. I don't care at this point; I just want good stories everyone can get into.

As long as the stories are good and the characters I like and care about are well written that's all i care about too
