DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

Did anybody pick up Hawk and Dove? I was a little tempted, honestly. But I was already spending 20 bucks and didn't want to waste another 3.

Just read Animal Man. Holy ****. At this rate if the amount of books that DC comes out with are this good each week I'm going to be spending a fortune. I actually also got adjusted to the art style a bit. Great read.

Picked up 'Tec, Action, and Swamp Thing.

'Tec was alright, if a bit EXTREME. It's got one arc to impress me before I drop it.

Action and Swamp Thing were both the bees' knees. I love social justice Superman. Swamp Thing was just beautifully nutty; I can't wait to see where it goes. Gorgeous art in both thanks to the awesome powers of Morales and Paquette.

Suicide Squad next week. Who else is on the team besides Shark, Floyd and Harley? Do we know?

Dammit. I just plunked down 13 more bucks for Animal Man, Swamp Thing, JLI, and Stormwatch.

That's 9 of the 52 so far.

Damn you DC!!!

:argh:

Reading them now. Loving the new digital. Maybe the FF will be my only floppies any more.

So confused.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I decided I'm gonna try Swamp Thing and Animal Man based on how overwhelmingly positive the reviews for them have been. I also just ordered the first volume of Morrison's Animal Man on Amazon, so I'm finally gonna get around to reading that.

Ok so I pre-ordered all 52 from my local comic book store for the first 2 issues. After reading the first 14 (is it 14 my math could be off) I have two separate yet equally important groups.

First up I have my keepers, these ones I'm pretty much making a commitment right out of the gate and putting them on a continuous pre-order, may I cancel them in the future, sure but these are the ones that I enjoyed reading the most. (Warning I'm a bit of a character fanboy so if I like the character I tend to give it more props than it is probably worth.)

Justice League
Action Comics
Batgirl
Batwing (I was really surprised by this as I thought it would be one of my first junkers).
Detective Comics
Green Arrow
Justice League International
OMAC

My other group is 'wait to decide after the second issue' now I know a couple of these choices are being highly regarded at the moment and thats great but they didn't capture my interest as much as I would have liked and thats fine because just like you I am an individual.

Swamp Thing
StormWatch
Static Shock
Men of War
Hawk and Dove
Animal Man

In all honesty I have enough money to collect them all, but sitting down this afternoon to read 13 comics was a time consuming process that I'd rather not do every week especially if some of the titles I just don't care about.

What?

What?

What is this?

As for Animal Man and Swamp Thing, I can definitely see the appeal, but something about it just didn't click with me, I by no means hated them I just can't make up my mind of one issue.

And I liked OMAC, I wish a satellite would turn me into a ruthless killing machine.

Afraid not. But I'll be buying it just for Harley who I loves with all my love and King Shark. Who is a talking shark. If anyone cannot see why that is amazing they be crazy

Also am I the only one who thinks King Shark's redesign is adorable

I want to hug him :atp:

You'll like it Corp its crazy and fun. There are lots of great ideas in it and Buddy and his family are great characters

But GA and Detective were awful too.

You have very questionable taste. :o

I loved both those titles I think I'll definitely be getting the next issues of both of them

Yeah, I'm doing the same thing here as well. I had no intentions of buying Detective Comics but the previews got me intrigued and it was good enough for me to stay on for at least the first arc. And I'm hearing some really good reviews for O.M.A.C. so I might pick that up today and give it a try. But I felt really spurned by DiDio's horrible writing in Outsiders, so I'm still on the fence.

But so far I too have picked up 9 of the 52 books with:
Action Comics
Animal Man
Batgirl
Detective Comics
Green Arrow
Justice League
Justice League International
Stormwatch
Swamp Thing

God forbid me I spent $3 on something co-written by Dan D'Idiot'; and it was actually worth it. O.M.A.C. is indeed buckets of fun filled with a large amount of awesome. Very faithful to the original series. Liked that a lot

I've picked up 10 out of the 14 releases this week. Will continue with them all too. I used to buy about 31 DC published books pre-launch now it's gone up to almost 40. So they're actually getting a few more bucks from me starting this month than they normally did (excluding last month where I spent extra on some of the Retroactives).

Just read Animan Man and Batgirl. I enjoyed Animal Man more than Batgirl. Honestly, I had never even heard of Animal Man before reading this issue but it was a lot of fun and interesting.

Is anyone going to be buying Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E next week

The only other thing I've read the character in was Seven Soldiers of Victory but I've decided to check it out because a Frankenstein's monster and a six armed bride of Frankenstein fighting the supernatural sounds like fun

Anyone else going to be giving it a chance

It was on my maybe list but after this first week with the 2 other maybe books being amazing I'm going to go for it and get Frankenstein.

Yeah, I'm debating about Frankenstein as well after I enjoyed Animal Man so much.

Man, I loved nearly everything this week. If the quality stays consistent, it's going to be a bit more expensive for me than it used to be. I picked up Action, Detective, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Batgirl, and Stormwatch.

Action Comics was clearly my favorite of the week. A great setup to what I think's going to be a fantastic run from Morrison. I've been reading some divided, if not mostly negative stuff about Detective, but damnit, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Very creepy, dark, and loved the ending. Definitely a shocker.

Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Stormwatch were all 100% new reads for me. Never knew anything about any of the characters, and ****ing loved all three! This relaunch is really getting me excited for things I've never jumped into before.

Batgirl really was the only issue I wasn't particularly in love with. I thought it was a good read, but I don't think I'll be continuing with it much longer, simply because there's already a lot I'm looking forward to.

So for me, a very positive week.

Frankenstein has the same writer as Animal Man? If so, I'm in.

Yep it does

If his writing on Frankenstein is as good as Animal Man I think the books going to be pretty darn good

Yep I wasn't sure whether I was going to buy it either at first but in the end I decided what the heck why not give it a try. I thought it sounded interesting and like a fun concept for a comic book.

And Lemire was great on Animal Man which was encouraging

You know you want to :ninja:

I've loved that character and in a lot of more recent stuff post-7 soldiers he has indeed shined (Lemire's Flashpoint mini which is basically a preview of the new series for example). But yeah it's a character I like with the writer of Sweet Tooth which has been one of my best purchases for almost 2 years now. So it's a lock but I'm interested in all the Dark titles anyway.

He already showed a larger audience what he's capable of with the intro issue of the new Animal Man volume. I keep telling people; don't doubt Jeff Lemire. That is if you could afford not to financially anyway.

So far I've bought:

Justice League
Justice League International
Swamp Thing
Animal Man
Detective Comics

and I enjoyed them all. I'm not sure that I'll continue with Detective but I did enjoy the first issue at least. The rest are definate keepers for now. Eagerly looking forward to the next two or three weeks to see what else DC has for me :)

I didn't really dig his Superboy stories but other than that I've liked his stuff

If Frankenstein is half as good as Animal Man I'll be sticking with the series past the first issue. I've got a good feeling about this comic book
